When was she going to get a proper job? What was she ever going to settle down? When was she every going to get married and start a family? Helena Hughes wished that she had never returned to live at home after she graduated from university. It wasn't that her parents did not make her feel welcome nor indeed love her but she felt that she was being victimised as an only child. She was only 25 years and yet she believed she was being treated as if she was decrepit spinster that had been left on the shelf.

At least, the redhead thought that she would get away for the weekend by going for an interview at her old university city. She would make a few days of it and perhaps visit a few haunts even though she had not been there for a couple of years. Helena had graduated in Physiology though she had spent much time hoping in vain that she may have made it to Olympic Trials as a gymnast. It was her one love as well as dance drama. Her parents frowned on whatever she wanted to do, convinced she should study medicine or even train as a lawyer.

A walk around the campus felt perhaps a bit much after she had arrived. The 25 year old didn't want to go back in time. The past was the past. She felt she had learned that from returning home when she finished her studies. A new job may help her though she wasn't sure if she would really like to move back to her university city even if she had quite a few happy memories there. After booking into a hotel near the centre, she went for an initial walkabout wearing a short, mauve crimplene dress.

Since graduating four or so years ago, Ashton Riverdale had become a rising star with an advertising and marketing agency. He was lucky to be able to do an internship during his time in university. As he was approaching graduation, they offered him a full-time position and he accepted! Since starting work, he has quickly risen to a more senior position.

Of course there were trade-offs, he was, more or less, married to his work. He did a lot of traveling around the country, and the world for that matter, to other offices from his company. Long hours, working weekends, there was little, if any time, for dating or for himself. Last year he bought a condo close to the office in the center of the city. He worked and lived downtown, it was a nice apartment that he could afford with his decent salary.

Ashton tried to keep contact with a lot of old university friends but found it harder and harder to find the time between work commitments. His younger brother has also gotten engaged fueling the conversation with his own mother about when he was settling down and getting married himself. Ashton was at the office, in the middle of texting his mom about finding a new girlfriend. He needed a break from it and got up from his desk and walked out of the building. Wearing grey pants, a muscle tight white button down with blue checkered pattern, slip on brown dress shoes. Sunglasses in his hair.

Having previously lived there was three years, the 25 year old redhead was obviously quite well acquainted with the city. She was aware of all the landmarks as well as some of the more quaint architecture blended into the new modernism. Not being much of a socialite though she knew little of the restaurants, only a few bars that served food and coffee shops that offered little more than snacks. Being a student she had eaten mostly on campus or cooked herself when she was bothered.

Being hungry, her options could have been to have a meal at the hotel she had booked into but on her walkabout, Helena thought she would keep an eye open to see if there was anywhere she fancied. Eventually she came to a bistro that caused her to smile. She recalled being there as a freshman when at a rather raucous hen party for a short, pregnant blonde girl in her faculty, who preferred to be married before giving birth. It was where she had first glanced Ashton at the other end of the bar, unknowing that they would both end up rather drunk and in bed together the following weekend. Their relationship was strictly physical. She was surprised it seemed to last until she graduated void of any real romance.

It was a good a place as any to eat, she thought. The menu was a modestly inventive mix of French and Italian with the occasional foray of Asian and Latin cuisines as well. Surprisingly quite cosmopolitan. The place had a balance of formality and intimacy, with a particularly easy style of hospitality. Being on her own, she welcomed this as she sat down at a designated table. It was not something that she would often do but had never really been able to develop a long-term relationship with any guy.

Typically Ashton ate at the office but it was nice to get a little air. It has been very cloudy, dark and rainy lately so he walked around, a few streets over to enjoy the sun and smiled when he saw that famous cafe. "Why not?" He said. He looked at the watch on his left wrist and figured it was close enough to lunchtime. He walked in and greeted the hostess. "I can just sit at the bar, thank you." He smiled and he walked over and grabbed himself a seat.

He took his cell out and looked through the work email that was being pushed to his phone. Nothing urgent. He looked at the bartender, "Just a water and a coffee, skim milk, thanks man." He said and looked over the menu.

As Ashton looked at the menu, his eyes traced off of the pages of the bi-fold and he saw her. No. It wasn't her! Ashton smiled as he bit his lip and he walked over. Rising to his feet and opening his mouth. "Helena." He said. He had not said her name in years. She looked just as gorgeous as she was. She seemed more adult but still looked so similar.

A fortuitous mirage from the past. First she heard his voice call her name and then she saw him as she looked up. Coincidentally Helena had been briefly thinking about Ashton, but only in association of first seeing him there in the restaurant she was having a meal. It wasn't in any yearning way as there was never anything that meaningful in their relationship other than physically enjoying each other's bodies. Her eyes did light up as he did approach. Automatically she stood up, offered him a generous smile before reaching out with her arms to give him a welcoming hug. Her cheek grazed his, not quite giving him an affectionate kiss too. It wasn't that type of endearment that they had often shared.

"You still living here? Or just visiting like me?" Gesturing with her arm, she offered for him to sit down on the other chair at he table, before returning to her own seat. No longer did he quite look like a student, at least in the calibre of the clothes he was wearing, his Brook Brothers Gingham Print. His face though had the same mischievous grin though now with a stubble beard. Something he never had when he regularly ate her out. The thought made her quiver between her thighs as she slightly went flush.

"Weren't you doing some kind of internship? Don't say you still there?" Conveniently Helena had almost completed her main course meal when she was interrupted. She probably had enough found and just nibbled on a carrot as she spoke. Sitting back she had to be more vigilante about how short her dress was with Ashton directly opposite to her, though there would be nothing he hadn't seen scores of times. She observed that there was no wedding ring on his finger, prompting her to tease him and giggle. "You never found anyone to marry, I see. You couldn't have been waiting for me?"

Ashton embraced her as they hugged after all these years. Ashton, while hugging her, smelt that familiar scent. God she always smelt so good. Ashton thought that Helena smelt the same as she did all those years ago. Rolling around in the sheets of their bed, she had an alluring scent.

Ashton sat down and he looked at her. "I'm still here! That internship turned into a real job, and well now, I'm one of the managing partners. It's turned out very, very well for me." Ashton watched her lips and teeth on the tip of the carrot and smiled thinking about all the past, the history between them.

He laughed. "The only woman that every got me." He winked as he looked at her. "More or less, since college.. I have been working and traveling for work. It's been a lot of fun but I haven't had time to settle down.. What are you doing here? I knew you moved away after we graduated?" He didn't know much about her life now.
