Tatyana Cho was exhausted. Guess they don't call it the sunshine state for nothing. She arrived with the small U-haul with long straight locks down. The heat was so intense that those loose tendrils were pulled up into a high ponytail. A white tank top with the straps of a black bra were soaked with sweat. A jogging neko of the feline kind in gym shorts and sneakers offered to help the five foot four Asian human with her belongings, but she gave him a polite nod. "Nah, I think I've got this. Loading it was quite a bitch, so this is a breeze." The neko was quite the show-off and insisted to give the woman a helping hand or at least treat his new neighbor to lunch or dinner. "Maybe another day. I smell atrocious and am looking forward to a nice hot bath and maybe something on the tv." He backed down, but not before giving his name: Trevor. He was two houses to her left a single story made of brick. Sweat dripped down from her brow, down the slender curve of a neck and got lost in the generous swell of breasts hidden behind the thin cotton of her shirt.
The single-story house was perfect. It was the perfect place to forget the shit of the past. It was brave of her to uproot her life. Now it was just her and..."Hey, Patches..." A brindle and ridiculously fluffy cat came out of nowhere with the most mesmerizing eyes. "Have you explored the neighborhood? Are you ready to settle in?" The ball of fluff meowed in its owner's arms. There was the eeriest feeling creeping up her spine and a glance across the street and amber eyes caught the sight of blinds shaking someone retreating from them. It was odd, but she was told of this being a proverbial melting pot of people. This was what she needed. Patches jumped from her arms and sneaker clad feet walked her over to the steps of her porch and to the stained glass front door. There were a few things that were heavy for a normal human being. It may very well be best if they were retrieved at night. No need to have her neighbors asking too many questions.
The sky was becoming increasingly cloudy. From sunshine to a thick grey overcast. Clearly, the weather here was very abnormal. The electricity in her home was to be turned on tomorrow. Candles littered the stained wooden floors of her home and tonight's dinner would be a bowl of cereal. On the steps of her front porch, she sat. Patches lapped at a bowl of the milk at her owner's side. It was an odd sight. A new woman eating a bowl of cereal on her front porch by the light of a candle at six in the evening. It was going to be a rough start, but it was the start she needed. Patches disappeared into the trees across the way and with a humble smile, the young adult woman walked back to the well-preserved door and grabbed the handle. The polished old handle was twisted and yet the door did not open. This is where she groaned. The pockets of denim shorts were patted down and then it dawned on her. "Damnit...." The damn keys were sitting on the counter top.
Fuck up number one. Just when things were going so smoothly. Naturally, things seemed too good to be true. With a few household items, she would be able to open it. The thought of going to Trevor so soon after she shot him down sounded like such a bad idea. The seemingly cocky man may think that she was playing hard to get. Well, now was as good a time to get to know her next door neighbor. Since a lot of trees sat to the right of her home she only had one next door neighbor. It was starting to get dark and with those candles lit inside, she didn't want to test her luck and see if the house would burn down. With a weary breath, she jogged up to the door of the house next door and rapped upon it three times. "Hello? I am so sorry to bother you. I'm your new next-door neighbor, Tatyana. I locked myself out of my house... already and was curious if I could get a hand?" Words spoken through the door. Already she was embarrassed. Well, it would make for an interesting story.
