Alison couldn't stop the tears from flowing. She hated feeling like this all the time. The problems in her life just kept coming. She couldn't do anything to make them stop. Her mother and father's deaths, the betrayal of her best friend, the cheating of the "love of her life". She just wanted it all to end. Looking over the city from the roof, she tried to understand how such a beautiful place could be so cold. Reaching next to her, she read the pill bottle over again. They should have been working by this point. Not that it mattered. If they didn't, she could always jump. Ten stories would be enough to kill her. To get her away from all of the pain.

She pulled a ring off of her finger. It was her mother's wedding ring. Anger suddenly bubbled up to the surface. With as much strength as she could muster, she threw the ring over the side of the building.
"Damn you," She screamed, the tears flowing faster, "Why did you leave me here? Why didn't you take me with you? It's not fair."

Her sobbing over took her and she fell to the floor, curling herself into a ball. It all hurt so much. She pulled her knees up to her chest, hoping it might ease the pain, even if it was just a little. Nothing seemed to be working. Maybe death was what she needed. She raised her head, grabbing the pill bottle and the water. Popping the bottle open, she took six more of the pills, tossing them in her mouth and swallowing. She put the water to her lips, trying to make sure they all went down.

Laying back down, she sighed. Those six brought her count up to seventeen. She still didn't feel anything yet. It was strange. She figured that she would at least feel a bit ill by this point. She could only assume that God was playing a dirty trick on her again. Clutching her hands to her chest, she prayed that he would just let her end it. Nothing could fix this anymore.

Gabriel watched the whole scene unfold from his invisible perch in the Heavens. This girl had dealt with things never meant for humans to suffer through. He knew that she would try to kill herself. He knew that she would go to Hell. But he couldn't let her do that. She was his charge. He was supposed to watch over her. So he kept the pills from taking effect. But then she took more. She was not going to give up. Most likely a jump would be next. That he couldn't stop indirectly. He had no choice.

So he came down. There were no shining lights. No chorus of angels. Just a silent glide down to the roof. He landed right beside her and folded his wings behind himself. So he moved a hand down to her shoulder and lifted her off the ground softly. He turned her to face him and as he looked into her eyes, he was gorgeous. "Alison...You cannot do this. Your life is not meant to end just yet."

He gave her a small and it was full of unconditional love. He would not let her die. So he lifted her chin and made her look at him. "God loves you. I was told to watch over you and I will do just that." Then, without warning, his wings wrapped around her and cut her off from the world in a veil of white feathers. His arms did the same and he held her to his chest. He was so loving and he had never even spoken to her.

Alison didn't know what to do, he'd appeared out of nowhere. Looking into his eyes, she knew her wasn't lying to her. She didn't think he could. She gasped when suddenly all she could see was white. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath. Resigning herself, she wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her face in his chest. She felt safe, loved and cared for. She didn't know this man, but she knew he cared. That was all that mattered to her at the moment.

She had never believed in angels before. Her mother had told her stories as a child, but she had never really believed. She knew there was a God and she had once believed that He loved her. Now she wasn't so sure. Looking up at the man, she noticed just how beautiful he was. There was no way he was human. She tried to pull away from him, her arms pressing against his chest.
"Why won't you let me? I can't do this anymore."
She looked at her own hands, unsure of what to say or do. Brushing her bangs out of her face, her brown eyes were full of tears still.

Slowly, the wings spread out, letting the the world show again. "I won't let you die because every life is precious. Your parents died because it was their time and you can be happy that they are both in Heaven." He brushed a tear from her cheek. "The ones who betrayed you are not the ones you should be with. Know that there are people out there who love you. You have true friends who care." He closed his wings around her again, pulling her close again.

He pressed her head to his chest and smiled again. "Your life is worth living and I want you to live it. I am here to convince you that you are worth more than you think." His voice was more gentle and more loving than ever. "Is there anything I can do to make you feel that way? What is really making you hurt the most?" He was truly a great guardian angel. He would sacrifice anything for this girl.

She sighed as he pressed her head to his chest again. She closed her eyes and tried to think. There was nothing she could really think of that would change her mind. The only thing she had wanted was someone to be there, to protect her, to love her. The people that had protected her were dead, the person who was supposed to love her had left. She didn't know what to do with herself anymore. She wanted a companion, but he couldn't do that. She knew he would have to go back to heaven. She would lose him just like she had lost everyone else.
"I wish you could stay with me, but you can't. I want nothing more than someone who cares. Someone to be here when I come home from work. Someone who will hold me when I cry and calm me when I'm angry. I want to know that my whole life won't be hell."

She was to the point of dry sobbing. She had no more tears to cry. All she wanted now was to sleep and not wake up. She wanted to wake up in the morning and have all the heel have been nothing but a dream. She wanted things she knew she couldn't have. She looked up at him, speaking softly.
"I would like to try to sleep. Will you be here when I wake up? Please?"

When she said that she wanted someone to be with her, the angel was a bit surprised. He wasn't used to a being needed. He was an invisible force that changed small things that no one would know. Then he had become a guardian who watched over human after human without a bit of thanks. Now she was begging him to stay with her. What was he supposed to do? With a small sigh he closed his eyes. There was no doubt what he had to do. He would be there for her.

So in a blink his skin became less radiant and his wings were gone. He was still flawless in every way right down to his impossibly white hair. But he looked so very human. "Alright Alison...I will promise to be here when you wake up." He lifted her like a child and held her softly before walking with her. "Don't worry. You are mine to watch over."

(I'm gonna just ahead a little bit.)

When Alison woke, her head was throbbing. Her stomach felt like it was ready to jump out of her throat and spill it's contents all over the floor. She had never felt so sick before in her life. Rolling out of bed, she made her way to the bathroom. Splashing some water on her face, she thought about her rather odd dream last night. An angel? Right. Nothing like that existed. She walked back to her bedroom, grabbing her work clothes. She didn't remember if she had work or not, she was going to call and make sure. She hoped she did, because it would give her something to do other than sit alone in her near empty apartment. Stepping into the living room, she grabbed the phone, dialing her work as she made her way to the kitchen for breakfast.

"Another day, another empty house." She said softly. She could feel the depression settling in. she just hoped it wouldn't stay long. Grabbing a bowl, she poured herself some cereal and sat down on her couch. Just as she had expected, no work. Slamming the phone down on the charger, she stuffed a spoonful into her mouth, hoping to keep her anger from bubbling up.

But just as she put the spoon in her mouth, her shining angel appeared in the doorway, wings folded behind him with a small smile on his face. "Good Morning Alison. You seem to be in a less than pleasant mood." As he walked towards her, he assumed the same human-like form he had been in the night before. But as he saw down next to her, the cushion didn't even move. He seemed impossibly light and graceful. "I hope that you feel better this morning."

No matter what, the smile and love never faded from his expression. She was his to watch over and care for. She was his to protect forever. She was going to find that from now on her ever wish would be granted. At least, the things that weren't petty and stupid. But her need for loyal loving company would be fulfilled and the pale angel sitting next to her would do that.

Alison jumped, her bowl almost falling out of her hands. It wasn't a dream. She kept repeating that to herself. Looking at him, she couldn't help but let her jaw hang a slight bit. Setting her bowl down on her coffee table, she threw her arms around his shoulders. Her face lit up as she smiled, nuzzling into his neck. She wasn't alone. He had stayed. Her heart skipped a couple beats as she realized he still had the loving look on his face. She didn't understand why, but it made her happy none the less.

Pulling back for a moment, she couldn't help herself. She ran a hand along the side of his face gently. Her fingers traced his jaw. He was perfect. In every way, it seemed. Smiling at him, she blushed.
"I'm sorry. I-I don't know what came over me." She stuttered a little as she realized just how strange her actions were. Scooting away from him, she suddenly worried if she had made him uncomfortable.

Gabriel was rather confused by her actions. She seemed to love holding and touching him. As she stroked his cheek he almost flinched away, unaware of what the action meant. But then she blushed and apologized. It must have been some human form of affection. That was what this girl needed. She needed to be showered in affection and love. So he moved a little closer, smiling a little wider. "Its okay. Do whatever you wish. As long as it makes you happy, I am fine with it."

His hand went up and ran along her cheek softly, his fingertips warm against her skin. There was something oddly satisfying about it. She was soft and smooth like any angel's skin was and her red cheeks looked rather appealing in the same way puppies were. The human word was cute as far as he knew. "I am here to keep you happy after all." His hands moved away from her.

She jumped a little when he touched her. She almost felt disappointed when he removed his hand. Turning to look at him, she curled up against his side. Smiling she decided to ask him a strange question.
"Would you mind if we watched a movie? I don't know what kind of things you would want to do. I don't have work so we could go for a walk or go to a park." She didn't know much about angels other than what her mother told her. She knew they were kind but that was as far as her knowledge went. She carefully grabbed his wrist, holding up his hand, as if she was inspecting it.

Sitting up, she flinched when her phone rang. Grabbing it, she looked at the number. It was HIM. Setting the phone back down, she turned and buried her face in his shoulder. She tried hard not to cry. she was tired of crying. Why? Why was he calling her? To rub it in her face again. Like last time? She put her hands over her ears as the phone rang again. She just wanted him to leave her alone. She wouldn't take him back again. She wouldn't make herself suffer that a second time.

Gabriel looked a little confused. He wasn't familiar with movies. It had been a long time since he watched the human world. This could be rather exciting for him as well. He could learn a lot about the modern human race. But then a shrill annoying sound reached his ears. He noticed it was coming from a strange device and when she looked at it, she seemed very upset. With a blink it was gone, the whole phone completely gone. Obviously she didn't like the device. "There. That is gone."

He laid back a little, getting comfortable on the couch, which was also rather new for him. He had never known comfort or discomfort. "I movie would be fine. I am interested to see what one is." He was beginning to get the feeling that he would have to watch over this girl more than he expected.

(Sorry I have been gone so long. I just finished moving again and I haven't had the chance to get my computer up and running.)

Alison looked at her angel with a shocked look. Her eyes grew wide before her mouth could open. Her phone was gone! She had wanted it to go away but she didn't think that it would really happen. She stared at him for a moment before speaking.

"That was my phone. I kind of need it for work. I'm thinking about changing my number so HE can't call me anymore."

Moving to the stacks of DVDs, she looked through them, trying to figure out what to do. She pulled a random one out, turning to smile at him.

"Would this be okay with you?" She said with a smile, holding up Constantine.

When she said that she needed the "phone" he waved a hand and it was back, though no longer ringing. He would have to find out exactly what it was that bothered her about the ringing of the device later. But then she turned and showed him the movie, which he didn't understand at all. He simply nodded a little. "That is fine." But something about the name Constantine seemed familiar.

"What exactly is a movie? I don't know much about the modern human world. It has been a very long time since i watched your race." He gave her a kind smile that had a hint of curiosity in it.

She stared at him for a moment before giggling. She had almost forgotten that he didn't know. Smiling at him, she sat on the couch, trying to phrase everything the easiest way she knew how.

"A movie is... Well... It's...The easiest thing I can tell you is that a movie is made up of a series of pictures taken at a very fast rate. They will normally be accompanied by sound, usually a voice track recorded at the same time as the pictures."

She paused, taking a deep breath. She would just have to teach him. She got another idea. Standing up, she rushed to her bedroom, grabbing her laptop and flopping back down on the couch. Typing quickly, she pulled up a website and thrust the computer into his hands.

"Here. Read this."
