It was twenty after midnight when Mary Stevens finally left Charlie's, the small uptown diner she worked at part time waiting tables. It was a chilly night as the wind blew in from the bay whipping her long blond hair all around her. "Damnit..." she said with annoyed frustration as she removed the black squinchie from her wrist and pulled the thick tresses back into a low hung pony tail. She'd meant to get it cut a bit shorter as it was a bitch to care for but since she worked at night and attended classes at the local community college during the day, she just hadn't found the time.

I'll have plenty of time now she thought morosely to herself as she ran her fingers over the folded letter in her pocket. A new semester started in a week and although she'd busted her ass off at work, pulling double shifts four, sometimes five days a week in order to get enough money for tuition, she'd still come up short. The letter had come from the admissions office informing her that the deadline for registration had now passed. Yeah, like I needed the reminder she scoffed.

"God! My life sucks!" she said out loud as she walked down a quiet, empty street just a couple blocks away from her small apartment. She raised her violet blue eyes skyward as if the answer to her problems could be found there as tears of frustration and anger spilled down her cheeks.

At 21 years old, she had been late starting college and had only completed a single semester so far. After 2 years of caring for her sick grandmother, the woman who had raised her since she was 10, the classes had been instrumental in helping her deal with the grief of her death. She had been thinking of majoring in some form of social work, a career path that would have enabled her to help those in need.

The closer Mary got to her apartment, the more she dreaded it. The thought of being there- alone with her thoughts- seemed too intolerable to bear right now. So, despite the time of night, she veered off her path and headed South towards the docks, not thinking about anything but the hopeless state of her life.

Damon glanced over at his watch, it had grown closer to midnight. His dark hazel eyes had been hovering over numerous people walking around the docks. The numbers had now gone from a large group to finally a few people. Probably some sailors, he thought, doing some kind of midnight shift. It was strange to watch the shimmery light of the day dissapear to be replaced by the blackness of the night.

Brushing his black sleek hair past his face, a grin slid up to his lips. Finally it was that time of the night, his personal favourite time, where he could stop the facade he had to put up during the day into the wee hours of the night. Once Damon recalled his friend, Steven warning him not to venture out at midnight since there were so many abductions, unexplained murders and so forth. Damon had never paid heed to such warnings, rather he thrived on living his life on danger. Once he even went as far as to enter a church which was basically the one holy place which all of his kind feared. He had earned a fairly big bruise for doing such a thing as the father somehow seemed to know the difference between a human and an immortal like himself.

Brushing these thoughts aside his eyes started to scour the distance in search of prey, he would always be patient even though there was no human whom would be able to outpower or outrun him. Because the chase was his favourite part of the hunt. Damon leaned back against the wall, inbetween two buildings making sure he was invisible to the naked eye. A feminine aroma hit his nose, his prey had walked into the trap, a female his favourite kind since male's were quite boring.

As Mary approached the docks, it barely registered in her preoccupied mind that one of the streetlamps was out on the stretch of dock in which she now stood. The docks at night wasn't the safest place for anyone to be much less a woman as distraught as she was. But the sea, beyond the semi-lit piers where boats of all types and sizes docked to load and unload any number of things, seemed to call to her tonight.

As she approached the steel and wooden railing where during the day people would sit hour upon hour with their fishing poles trying to catch a meal, she looked around cautiously as she suddenly felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up and felt as if she were being watched. But, not seeing anyone other than a lone stray cat chasing after a small grey mouse between 2 dilapitaded buildings, she ignored her instincts and shrugged the feeling off.

Damon leered with a smirk, the girl seemed to be alone which made his job so much easier, though one or two people weren't really that hard to handle. She seemed too buzy thinking about something to notice him, he decided to try to use his charms first. Adjusting his hair back, he slowly brushed himself against the wall, intentionally alerting her. "Excuse me, is there some one out there? If there is, could you help me?" He asked, doing his best to act as if he had sprained his ankle.

Slowly making his way out of his hiding, his eyes shifted over to the girl. "Oh thank god, I was just walking by around here to get some fresh air and clumsy me sprained my ankle when I was walking back I think I must have tripped or something." Giving her a genuine smile, he pressed back into the wall, half sitting carefully keeping an arm over his right ankle.

" Oh!"

The man's sudden appearance startled her but she quickly recovered as her natural concern for anyone who needed help became obvious.

" Yes, I'm here...and of course I'll help you" she said as she immediately went to him. He remained partially hidden in the shadows and leaned against the brick wall of an old abandoned warehouse. Despite the fact that the skirt she wore as a part of her work uniform left her legs bare from the knee down, she wasted no time or thought for herself as she bent down to kneel before him. Afraid to touch his injured ankle, she looked up at him and asked " I'm so sorry...does it hurt terribly?"

Damon watched the girl on quite confused by how hesitant she was. "Thank you for stopping by, it hurts very much." His eyes drifted over to the uniform she had been wearing, moving lower till his eyes managed to catch a glimpse of her panties. He felt a grin play upon his lips, careful not to show the desire which had come over him. "By the way, my name is Damon and you are?" He asked, raising a brow. Slowly rising up to his feet, careful not to place any weight on his right foot.

Different images of her moaning and screaming ran through his mind as he wondered how long he was going to play the injured innocent human role before he revealed his true self.

"By the way, my name is Damon and you are?"

Mary's breath caught in her throat as she looked up into the most beautiful hazel eyes she'd ever seen. It took her a few seconds before she found her voice to reply, " H...hello, Damon. I'm Mary, Mary Stevens." she said as she continued to stare as if mesmorized by his intense gaze. His hair was as black as the night that surrounded them and was slicked back to frame his pale, gorgeous face. His impressive size became apparant when he stood to his full height which towered over her small frame and she realized she was suddenly enveloped completely by his shadow. She took a tentative step backwards even as her eyes remained locked onto his and she had the strangest sensation trickle along her nerves like she was....like he was somehow hypnotizing her.....

Damon continued this act, his eyes catching each and every movement she made, pretending to slip on something he hurled his body out towards her with the intent to brush against her. He fell down on top of her, careful to place an arm around the back of her head so as not to allow any injuries to her.

"Oh I am so clumsy, this is really not my day, but I guess its not everyday you meet a beautiful, helpful girl like you." He said, allowing his cheeks to redden a bit as he smiled at her, his body pressed against her. It took a lot of will power not to allow himself to get lost in the desire for blood especially when he could hear her silent heart beats. Slowly he placed both his hands on her sides tightening his grip a little to rise up off her.

Mary gasped in surprise as he fell upon her and instinctively moved against him.
" Oh I am so clumsy, this is really not my day, but I guess its not everyday you meet a beautiful, helpful girl like you."

Mary was instantly calmed by the timbre of his voice as well as by his charming words. She was, afterall, somewhat clumsy herself.
" N...no problem" she mumbled as she felt his grip tighten briefly before he slowly rose to his feet. The situation became rather awkward as he stood before her, although her hands remained latched onto his arms to ensure his stability. She couldn't help but notice and appreciate the way the muscles of his powerful biceps bulged beneath her grip. After a few minutes she blushed hotly as she realized she'd been holding onto him much longer than necessary and quickly removed her hands and brought them to her side. " Are...are you O.K. now?" she asked rather shyly.

"Well, I think I am fine." Damon repliied, succesfully moving his leg upon the second attempt. "You must have a healing touch, well I think I should atleast thank you in some way for dealing with some one as clumsy as me perhaps a drink or else I could just escort you home, after all this is not the safest of neighberhoods to be in."

Damon smiled politely but did not release his grip on her, loosening it up a little noticing how soft her skin felt and he could only imagine what surprises lay beneath those garments she wore.

For a moment thinking of such delicious thoughts made him want to take her there and then but he wanted to savor this moment so much more and decided not to give in to the temptation.

"I don't mean to sound rude but your skin is very soft, I could not help but want to see more..." Damon spoke, carefully for a moment his smile vanishing to be replaced by a look of desire before turning away.

"I don't mean to sound rude but your skin is very soft, I could not help but want to see more..."

She blushed at his words and shyly looked away. It wasn't that she didn't know how to take a compliment, it's just that coming from a man so...so, devestatingly handsome, it was a bit unnerving.

" Th...thank you" she said as she again raised her gaze to his just as his smile faded to something else, something sensual and primal in it's intensity. But then he turned away from her and she couldn't help but wonder if she'd foolishly imagined it.

"So what about the offer to take you home?" He asked, softly sighing as his gaze fell to the floor. Pushes his right hand into his pocket, grabbing on to the cloth which he normally used to tie around his victim's mouths as even though the harbor was abandoned normally he wasn't ready to risk some one interrupting also just in case his victim refused his invitation, he could not read her mind so he felt himself getting more wound up as each second passed by.

"Unless perhaps you have some one special whom is waiting patiently for you? If so I understand and will leave you be." Lowering his tone to almost a whisper, his dark eyes studying her once more, slowly.

" Yes, That would be very kind of you....I'm usually not out this late and well, I suddenly find myself hesitant to walk home...alone." she said thankfully. " That is..if your well enough to walk?" she glanced down at his ankle.

Unfortunately, her naievity prevented her from detecting the possible threat he posed to her and had her feeling truly grateful for his offer to escort her safely home. She'd never seen a man as handsome and as alluring as he was and the fact that he seemed taken by her was very flattering indeed.

Damon couldn't help but grin upon hearing her agree to his request and also how she still had not forgotten about the injury he had faked. "Well, we should really be going, after all this place seems to be getting more and more creepier with each moment around this place." Brushing his hands against his arms, before slowly removing the jacket slowly covering it over her, before placing his right arm around her pressing her lightly against him.

"I think if we stick close together we'll be a lot warmer."

He said softly, his fingers lingering over the skin of her neck, then shoulder and finally stopping there. Lightly pressing her forward to move alongside him, pretending not to notice his fingers blatantly caressing her skin.

She smiled at him as she moved closer to the warmth of his much larger frame. She closed her eyes briefly at the feel of his feather-like touch against her skin as they began to walk away from the docks.

Being so close to him made it impossible not to notice the enticing scent of his cologne. He smelled of spice and midnight and it made her feel very tingly with unfamiliar desire, yet desire for what... she did not know.

She'd lived a rather lonely, sheltered life thus far and had no real experience with anyone of the opposite sex, especially a man so alluring as he was. Yet, she found that she rather enjoyed his company and the soft, tantallizing feel of his hands that he seemed to continuously place on her body.

Damon was quite startled at how the girl did not resist his movements instead brushing against him more, his hands so desperately desiring to feel her flesh against his and there was also the desire for blood, coursing through his veins. His hand with a mind of its own was travelliing over her shoulder, closer and closer towards her breasts.

One part of him knew that this was not something he normally did to crave some one for sex as he lightly ran his fingertips through her clothes for a moment too lost to care, he could feel the softness of her mound, unable to hold back he lightly squeezed, his eyes still fixed on the road ahead before slowly glancing to see her reaction.

His actions didn't go unnoticed nor, she was sure, did he intend for them to. Yet, she was unsure of how to react. All at once, she was plagued with indecision- should she remove herself from his side thus making it impossible for him to touch her so intimately- despite how pleasant it felt? Or did she silently allow it and let the tension grow between them because of her inexperience and fear?

The sight of her townhouse up ahead provided a timely distraction- for both of them. " My house is just ahead there" she said as she pointed in it's direction. The movement caused his hand to naturally move away from her breast.

Damon was quite astounded once more by her naivety, his movements became bolder, when suddenly he lost grip of her, as she moved her hand to point out to her house. Quickly he realised what his main objective was to seduce her before he made a meal out of her.

Damon wondered for a moment why he had allowed desire to overwhelm him like that, or whether the reason for it being this particular woman, pushing this thought away, he shifted lightly to the side. "Do you mind if I came in for a drink?" Giving her a toothy smile.

" Of...of course not, please do come in" she said politely as they approached her weatherred front door. It only took a moment for her to insert her key and unlock the flimsy lock that was her only defense from anything or anyone who might wish to gain entrance.

She closed the door behind them and re-engaged the lock before leading him through the darkened entry to a small living room where she turned on a small lamp for light. She gasped slightly when she turned to face him as he appeared much different than he had outside, in the dark of night. His skin was alabaster white as if he'd never seen the rays of the sun and yet, his beauty was ethereal, like a fallen angel on earth.

She looked down immediately in intimidation and wrung her hands together with nervousness. " W...would you like a drink?" she asked him finally.

Damon almost sneered as Mary turned to unlock the door, taking note how small the house was, especially the lock, breaking it wouldn't take much effort at all.

As he sauntered behind her towards the small living room and she lit a light, he heard a faint gasp. "Are you alright?" He asked her, his tone some what subdued. He found this reaction quite normal since it wasn't everyday humans would meet his kind. Settling down on a chair, his dark eyes peering over at her, once more gazing at her with lust.

"Anything you may have is fine by me...." He said rather softly, whispering. "Although I thirst for something that your body can only give."

"Are you alright?"

She blushed from head to toe as she realized she'd been staring at him so obviously. " Oh....um, yes...yes, I'm fine" she said as she quickly turned away from his knowing gaze.

"Anything you may have is fine by me...."
" Huh?" she sounded confused. " Oh!! Yes, of course, a drink...." she muttered as her blush deepened. What is wrong with me? Snap out of it Mary, you're acting like a silly school girl! she admonished herself.

" I'll...I'll be right back" she turned around and went into the kitchen where she poured them both a glass of red wine. She didn't usually drink but figured if there was ever an occasion that warranted it- this was it.

She came back and offered him the glass and sat hers down on the coffee table after taking a swallow and said, " If you'll excuse me a moment, I'm going to change into something more comfortable."

Damon felt the smirk grow wider as he could see that Mary was in shambles, the drink she held out towards him sent a shiver down his spine, reminding him of what his intentions were and that hunger burned at his throat.

He did his best to keep his composure, wrapping his fingertips around her hand as well as the glass, before releasing his grip on her hand. "Well I am sure you look beautiful the way you are, the only way you might be able to look any better is without anything." His voice once more turning into nothing more then a whisper.

"Take as much time as you need, since I need to rest my foot after all." He spoke once more sipping the red liquid, which did not ease the painful throbbing for something else.

His suggestive words caused her breathh to catch in her throat and she coughed in surprise. She had already begun to fear him somewhat and now she really thought she'd gotten in way over her head. An idea quickly popped into her frantic mind.. " Uh....I'll uh, be right back"

As soon as she shut her bedroom door, she quickly ran across the room to her window with the intent of going out it without him knowing....

Damon wondered, why she left. He released a soft sigh, it had been a while since he had let a human to entertain him for so long. He ran a hand through his dark hair, this girl seemed like an easy target yet she was proving to actually be quite formidable as he spent more time with her. The glass once more went to his lips, drinking down all it's contents.

A sudden thought shot through him like lightning what if she was suspicious of his behaviour from the very start. He did not know what she was capable of and what her intent to invite him in was. Rising up to his feet, he followed over to her door, lightly knocking against it.

"Hey it's me, I was wondering where your toilet might be?"

He asked, hoping the room had a toilet inside so that she would have no choice but to invite him in.
