Dog Fighting
One of those silly polls on facebook got me to thinking about this subject.

I think it's disappointing that, last I heard, Vick is going back to his life with what feels like minimal punishment for a crime that I think is absolutely heinous.

Anyways, the poll asked more or less if you agreed with the fact that dog fighting is a felony. It's heart breaking to see well over 2,000 people, nearly 3,000 answered "no, they're just dogs."

I think it's savage.

Re: Dog Fighting
"Just dogs." Like all those squirrels and small household animals that serial killers frequently get their first practice on are "just squirrels" or "just gerbils."

It's not whether or not the animal itself has any intrinsic value, honestly (although I like dogs a lot, and think they are plenty valuable on their own). It's the mark of what a person is willing to do. You don't make fighting dogs by accident; you have to abuse and torture them and make them vicious. And you have to get visceral enjoyment out of two living things trying to kill each other for no other reason than, well, your enjoyment. It's the natural precursor to bloodsports, or death games.

Vick shouldn't be in trouble because the dogs were abused (emphasis on dogs' pain), he should be in trouble because he's the kind of person that can abuse dogs in that way (emphasis on his lack of human emotions).

Re: Dog Fighting
Well said, very well said.

As a dog lover, I'm mortified by the idea of what these dogs are put through to become fighters. Dogs more or less only do what you tell them to do and they naively try to please their owners not matter what. It's a shame that some of these animals end up with sadists and the emotionally devoid.

Re: Dog Fighting
Totally disregarding the dog fighting thing, the reason that Vick is back in the NFL is simply because he's too damn good to pass up. It's like if you found out Tom Brady got a stiffy from kicking babies. At the end of the day, someone's still going to realize it's Tom fucking Brady.

The reason that Vick was able to find a place in the NFL is because he's just that good. As far as quarterbacks are concerned, he could walk out of prison and onto the field with no practice and still play as good or better than a fair chunk of quarterbacks in the NFL. Now, why he's on the Eagles playing second bananna to McNabb is beyond me.

What Michael Vick did was dispicable, and I'm not condoning what he did, but the man's damned good at what he does. I'm not happy he's back in the NFL, but I expected as much. What bothers me the most is that I know he's going to be running his mouth about some shit or another by week 8, when the asshole should be grateful for whatever he gets after the stunt he pulled.

Ugh, you're right on that one. Hell there were commentators on ESPN that made it sound like it was a sham that he was even arrested so you KNOW he'll be talking shit in no time.

Feh....

Re: Dog Fighting
One part of me wants to agree on the "they're just dogs" statement, but then there's the other part of me that wants to follow the credo of the hunting community, of which I am a member of. "Do not let the animal suffer unnecessarily."

Pitting dogs to fight is an unnecessarily cruel sport, and the offenders justly deserves the animal cruelty charge.

I don't give a damn about animals, but goddamn, you gotta draw a line somewhere.

Take a peek down the rabbithole.
And here's an F-list to preview as well.

I might be unable to access the internet from today on to the end of July. Just a warning in case you don't see me.

The man is making $6.6 Million over the next two years, and he might not even get on the field until halfway through the season. He makes more money in a weekend than most people do in a year, and I'll bet that he says something about how he's being improperly exploited, or some shit. It's just the nature of the game, I suppose. You would think the whole, 'getting caught for forcing animals into death sport' thing would humble him, and I know he's said he's sorry, but he'll go back from repenting criminal to NFL quarterback before the season's out, and the ego will come with it.
