Tear Mythos was not one to be a part of the bar scene. She didn't exude an air of worthlessness or laziness to hang around such a foul place. But she endured the shadiness to approach the bulletin board, examining the monsters and rewards, she was about to call it a day when a human caught her attention.

"Don't see anything you like," the human asked calmly, he looked as though he had seen better days. He wore rags and smelled disgusting.

"Nothing of much challenge," Tear corrected.

The man examined her and nodded his head, "I doubt anything would really challenge an Archangel of Leonas."

A blonde brow raised curiously, not many knew of the Archangel Order. She had been the youngest though didn't see much battle before Leonas was assassinated. She still wore the armor since it was good armor anyways.

"How do you know of the Order," she inquired, hand moving towards the hilt of her sword.

"I was old enough to remember their rule, Humans weren't always hiding from monsters. Ever since their fall we live in the reverse," he calmly spoke, he nodded to her sword, "Mind if I..?"

She handed the blade from it's sheath to the man curiously. The man examined the blade work, "Looks as though it's never been used, this is an Elvish weapon but even they aren't indestructible. What weapon do you use?"

"Your rather inquisitive," Tear said, having enough of the man.

"I didn't mean any harm, I'm just making sure that the one I give this mark too is worthy of it...2 million gold is a loooot of money," he said.

Tear glared at him, knowing he was trying to trick her into revealing her weapon. The slender woman finally nodded after some thought, "Meet me outside."

The two met and went a bit deeper into the forest. There she drew her sword, but on her back was a large cinder block. It had the appearance of being far too heavy for such a petite woman to carry. She suddenly sheathed the sword in a small hole into the cinder block, making it a large hammer. She did a couple moves, swinging her weapon with practice ease as though it were really weightless. She then slammed it to the ground as though to disprove this, it left a large sent into the Earth. She leaned on the handle, the swords hilt arrogantly.

"Hm, a weapon blessed by the elves. How'd you-"

"That's not important, who's the target and where?"

The Human smiled, "I guess it's not. It's a mind flayer, somewhere North of here." He gave her a parchment, she took it, placed it in the bodice of her armor, tossed her hammer onto her shoulder without even a strain in lifting it.

"One week," she said calmly as she immediately stole a drunk's horse and set off. If he was North he had to be somewhere in the cliffs, but she would do some investigating first.

As Tear rides away on the stolen horse, a shadowy figure emerges from the darkness behind where she left the filthy man who asked too many questions. In the man's mind, he can hear the figure's voice, watery and cold.

"Well done. She will be a fine challenge for the Lost One."

The filthy man nods and turns to face his master, kneeling to one knee. "As you said she would."

The slave doesn't react at all as his master's tentacles slip around his skull, so subservient and broken that the promise of death is little more than a path to freedom for the man's deeply buried consciousness.

Meanwhile, many miles away to the north, another figure looks to the south. He can't explain what he's sensing right away, but the hive mind still tickles the edges of his awareness when the attention of his kind turns to him. All Cha'll Teth can know for certain is that his currently discreet existence is going to come to an end soon.

After some talk to some villagers in the North, some men explained that they indeed noticed a disturbing silence closer to The Cliffs. She expected this and rested between her travels, not asking outright if they had seen her target- she didn't want any other Mercs tailing her. Not with the gold at stake too.

She had abandoned her horse at the entrance of the Cliffs. She began to walk through the narrow passage, her gaze moved around the large rocky slopes, she didn't like how open they were. Her hammer wasn't at the ready, though her hand was on the hilt of her sword as she cautiously moved forward. Trained eyes scanning, searching. She tried to pose as a simple traveler making her way through the Cliffs, the more she could catch the mind flayer in surprise the better.

Though even Tear knew that the monster must be prepared for her, only a person who was paranoid would take refuge in such a cramped fighting grounds.

There was a shift int he rocks, she heard a pebble fall behind her, she whirled around, drawing her sword only to see a Hare freeze in the cliffs. Her shoulders slacked at the sight before she picked up a rock and tossed it at the Hare. Immediately the animal shot off, running away at the 'threat'.

The monster was indeed waiting for her, but instead of attacking her outright, chose to watch her and study her. He could sense the power in her small frame, and noted the grace with which she moved. He noted her armor and the markings on it, trying to recall the exact nature of the order that they had belonged to. It would ultimately matter little in the end to him.

Seeing her turn with sharp senses on the hare was impressive. She reacted quickly to the scarcely noticeable sound and was instantly at the ready for an attack. The tall, lithe mindflayer chose to remain hidden in the rocks and trees above her, well out of reach. He closed his eyes and let his will wash over here, sensing out her mental state and any notable psychic defenses she might have in place. Not a true attack so much as a probe. Even if she had no psychic presence at all, she would feel the tingling sensation of it run up her spine, a sort of half-awareness that she was being watched that one sometimes gets but can't rightfully justify.

He would find no mental psychic defenses, she was a mere human after all. While some humans could create such defenses with a lot of training and time, Tear was much too young to have had such training.

Though she was still a skilled hunter nonetheless, as she felt the sensation instead of whirling around she closed her eyes and seemed to be listening. Her eyes opened and locked on the point where the mindflayer was. She didn't even try to hide that she knew his location or play dumb - she immediately began making her way up the cliff side, the trail was narrow and at some point she began to climb as well.

Eventually she reached the top and once more looked in the direction of the mindflayer if he wasn't ready for her by then.

Unaccustomed to being so easily detected with that sort of accuracy, he'd let slip his invisibility, dropping the hood of his cloak and throwing it open, fully revealing himself. She'd note that unlike others of his kind, he's wearing true armor and carrying a sword on his hip. He was tall and lithe, even for a mindflayer, his stance seeming easy and ready.

He steps back from the cliffs and awaits her as she climes and when she finally reaches the top, he's standing around fifteen feet back or so, watching her carefully. She can sense his psychic presence in the same way she felt his actual attention, a sort of tingling on her skin and at the edge of her awareness that lets her know that he's focused very intently on her.

"Why do you come to me, Child?" The voice in her head is cold, almost wet sounding, and without any human emotion she can decipher.

The mindflayer's eyes are not the normal milky orbs of his kind, instead beady black points set deep. The tentacles on his face are abnormal as well, instead of just four, he has six, two of which are substantially longer than the others, nearly the length of his arms and very ropey.

She's shocked to hear his voice in her head, though simply gives a smirk as she draws her sword.

"Pissed someone off...just business, you can come quietly if you'd like," she spoke arrogantly.

Tear couldn't shake off that weird sensation, it was unsettling and something she wasn't used to. She had faced and taken down many monsters prior to this mindflayer, and she willed herself to become focused on the battle and to guard her senses.

He feels her body tense and her mental focus sharpen and he rolls his shoulders, dropping his cloak and pulling his sword in one long smooth motion. His hand and a half sword has the blackened wavering blade of a flamberge, but is easily wielded single handed by the creature.

"Business." The word carries a bit of emotion with it, almost mirth. "Perhaps you should wonder who you are in the employ of, Child."

He focuses in on her more, curious to test the young woman's abilities. He's easily a few feet taller than her, and his long blade has an apparent reach advantage. While she seems to be physically sharp, her mental and psychic abilities seem to be somewhat lagging behind, and he's curious to find just how much.

She uses her small size to her advantage, she moves swiftly, instead of charging him with her sword drawn, she hilts her sword into the cinder block mid stride before making a large swing at him, like a baseball swing. The hammer gives her more reach so she doesn't have to get as close with him anymore.

His extended senses warn of her change of direction and momentum, and he steps back and away, giving himself more space as her reach is suddenly added to by a little. He nods and his tentacles writhe in what appears to be agitation as she makes the wide swing at him with the bladed hammer.

Cha'll doesn't try to parry the heavy swing, fully sensing the magic within the blade and hammer and knowing that even with his strength, he wouldn't be able to fully stop the might of it. Instead, he lets it pass harmlessly wide, leaning and ducking out of the way. Her initial attack and reach keeping him farther away from her as well. When he comes out of his spinning defensive strides, he's facing her again and she can hear his voice in her mind again.

"You are a gifted little one, indeed. They chose their servant better this time."

Her arms moved gracefully with the swing, moving with her weapon instead of halting it by lifting it up into the air and resting it on her shoulder. Prepared to swing again.

This time? She wondered cautiously as she glared before leaping forward, throwing her hammer downward with all her might, but she didn't stop her onslaught there in case she missed. She kept swinging her weapon in a large loop, the ground cracked around them by her movements. On the third swing she once more attempted to swing wide again, but the monster continued to evade.

This dance went on and soon Tear was sweaty and panting, unable to land a single hit. Her weapon was weightless, but the movements were still exerting upon her petite form.

"Fight m, bastard," she demanded, rushing him, except this time she faked as though she were going to swing, waited for him to evade and kept charging him. She was up close now, she yanked out her sword, attempting to slam him with the hilt of her sword as the cinder block fell with a heavy "thud". There was a risk though, with his height she only had surprise and agility on her side.

Cha'll deftly moved to avoid each of her attacks, sensing her movements and attention. As belied her age, she was thinking along with each line of attack and the mental image of her movements was more than ample information for the mindflayer to always stay a step ahead of her. When she made the feint, he would've smiled if he had a more humanoid mouth.

As the block fell away from the blade and she tried to pomel slam him, instead of stepping away, he steps towards her. The closed distance robs her attack of most of her strength by preventing her the opportunity to gain momentum. Instead she slams into his chest, the hilt of her sword glancing harmlessly off of his breastplate.

With one deceptively strong hand, he grabs her wrist and flips her over in a move she's sure she's seen a monk perform. As soon as she slams down onto her back, he places the tip of his long blade against her neck and holds her there. She's left with her head towards him, feet away, wrist twisted painfully and held into place with the wickedly cold tip of his bastard sword tickling her neck.

"This has scarcely been a fight, Child. Your skill and training show, but you have little practice. Throw your weapon aside." There is an every so slight hint of authority and condescension in the voice in her head this time, the underpinnings of his arrogance.

Her back hit the ground and her body bounced with it's tiny weight, she went to move but didn't even get a chance to breathe before his sword was at her throat.

She had been bested?! How?? He acted like he knew her every move, but she had never fought a mindflayer.

Glaring up at him she threatened, "Kill me or you're not going to like what happens when I get up." Her hand tightened around the sword she still held. She was trained to face death and he could feel her acceptance and a short prayer to enter the Gates where her Lord Leonas would guide her.

The creature's head cocked a little to one side and his eyes narrowed. He hadn't seen such devotion to a cause in a mortal creature that hadn't been mentally broken by pyschic means. He held her there for a moment, giving her wrist a little tweak to remind her who is in control. In that heartbeat of time, she could feel his full psychic power as he scanned through her memories, searching for evidence that she'd been altered by other psychic means.

"Curious." The thought was audible in her head as she felt his mind withdraw from her own.

After that moment passed, he took one quick stride to the side to step on her wrist that is holding the sword and put his full weight on it, pinning her arm in place.

"Let go, Child." His voice was again filled with authority and assuredness, but less of the haughty arrogance from before. "I could always make you."

As he gazed upon her, Tear suddenly felt naked. She tried to move her wrist once only for him to retaliate. He finally spoke, and she shuddered at his voice. The sound of it was something she was not used to.

She gasped in pain when he stepped on her wrist, her instincts took over to fight him off, temporarily forgetting about the sword. She cut her chin on the tip, she stopped moving at that point and released her pain.

"You won't even do me the decency of a chilvorous death," she demanded, she looked like a frail maiden this way. At least if she was holding her sword she would die with her pride and honor in tact!

The monster nodded and watched her intently, his beady black eyes seeming so alien and strange. As he leans over her, one of his tentacles slips along her armor and caresses her cheek for a moment, almost as though he's getting a new sense of her. He seems satisfied after a moment and then gets off of her wrist, kicking her sword farther away and surely out of reach.

His attention back fully upon her tickles the edges of her senses again in that same unsettling way, and then she can hear his voice in her head again. "You have more to offer than your death, Child. Stand."

He steps back, between her and her sword, his sword still pointed flatly at the nape of her neck, right where her collar bones meet. He watches and awaits her obedience.

Tear glared as she stood up as commanded, but she wasn't going down without a fight. With a quick jump backwards she leaped for her sword, the only thing that could save her.

Tiring of her antics, Cha'll waits all the way up until she reaches her sword and comes up to strike and then hits her with a stunning wave of almost tangible raw psychic energy. It hits her like a truck and is almost enough to take her off her feet again.

"Child, you have no idea the powers that you are dealing with. Put the sword down. I will not be so kind as to tell you again."

He lets the threat hang in the air, knowing full well that he could dominate her inexperienced will with ease, but doesn't want to use such a blunt method against her unless he has to.

The mental assault hurt, the female warrior fell to her knee with a groan as she held her head in pain. It was a warning, and the assault quickly vanished, the attack was a warning. She realized that she was greatly outmatched then, he had been able to read her mind and forsee her attacks. Now he could make her crumble to the ground without even lifting a finger.

She should've been better prepared, she shouldn't have walked in so arrogantly. She tossed her sword aside as he demanded, seeing no better alternatively other than to listen to him.

He keeps his eyes on her and steps over to collect her sword, aware of the magic inherent in it. He slides it under his belt, watching her the whole time. "A fine blade. Maybe someday you'll be better suited to wield it."

He sheathes his sword and steps closer to her, roughly grabbing her wrists and pulling them behind her back to bind them together. He's still watching her closely, reading her body and waiting for some sign of resistance as the coarse rope starts to bite against her soft skin.

She glares at him as he touches her sword and takes it from her. She's confused when he binds her wrists behind her back, growing fed up with this monster.

"What game are you playing, are you monsters so deprived you would strip me of a honorable death, sword in hand," Tear demanded angrily, not fighting against him since she had no way to fight against his mental assault. She had never come across a creature that used such an ability.

He stands behind her, his three fingered hand on her shoulder, his claws rasping against the steel of her armor some as he pushes her forward towards the cliff face and away from any hope of escape.

"Child, you clearly have no idea what you are involved with."

He uses his hand on her to guide her along the face of the deeper rocks of the cliff until they round one large boulder. Behind it, hidden in the rockface, there's a cave and he pushes her into it, out of sight. Within, there's a heavy steel door set. He produces a key and unlocks the door, then pushes her inside.

Within, she'd see the makings of his living space. There is a small table with two chairs, a pile of cushions on the floor around a low table, a fire pit set against the far wall, and to the other end of the room is a wooden door that leads deeper into the rocks. The walls are decorated in rich tapestries depicting scenes of epic battle.

"It's not my job to know," she argued as she was forced onwards. Any try for escape would only have him attack with that psychic one, so until she could fall on her own sword she walked onwards.

Entering the home, she didn't step that far into it, a bit surprised a home would be snugged here of all places. She looked around uninterested and unmoving from her spot in the wall. When he entered as well she kept a careful eye on him.

"Don't expect me to keep you warm at night, I don't cuddle," she said snidely.
