1) The Heart of a Star - No man can live forever, not unless he possess the heart of a star. The current ruler knows that by preforming a ritual and eating the heart of a star, they can live forever. When a star falls, the ruler and a few trusted men go out to collect the star in order to bring them back to the palace. Stars of this realm are not just shiny rocks, but really ageless men and women. The star is taken prisoner however the ruler soon realizes it will be harder on their consciousness to kill them than previously planned. Unknown to the ruler, there is another way to live forever, possessing the stars love. (Idea from the movie Stardust)
