Corine had lived in one place all her life, and that one place was Phoenix, Arizona. There were plenty of people, good schools, shopping malls (probably Corine’s favorite part), and most of importantly to Corine’s mother, it was over three hundred miles away from Corine’s father. Corine had never known her father, and her mother had wanted it that way. It had been a one night stand, he had never even known she was pregnant. When she found out she had terminal cancer though, she had to reach out, and she had to tell him about Corine.

When she passed six months later, Corine was devastated. Her mother was the only family she had ever really had. Then she learned that she would have to move over five hours away for the Navajo Nation Native American Reservation. She called bull shit, she didn’t want to leave her friends, her boyfriend, the shopping. Not for some Indian reservation that probably didn’t even have wi-fi. She didn’t have much of a choice in the matter though, it was in her mother’s will. She had to live with her father until she turned eighteen, then she was allowed to do whatever she pleased.

She was picked up by another relative, her father had evidently been busy with something. She couldn’t believe he had been too busy to come pick her up from her mother’s funeral… She already didn’t like this man. She sat in the old beat up pick-up truck as they drove to the reservation, her arms folded over her chest, in total silence. They stopped a couple of times, and she would buy a soda or something to snack on, get back in the truck and resume the silence.

When they arrived, she was dropped off in front of her father’s house. She took her bags inside, the rest of her things would be arriving later that week. For the moment all she had were the essentials, a two weeks’ worth of clothes, her toiletries, makeup, her iPad, her cell phone, and her laptop. She moved into the house with her bags. Looking around.

“Hello! Anyone here?” She called out.

Seru sat cross legged on the floor of his office. This situation was... perplexing, to say the least. He had a daughter, a teenage daughter approaching the prime of life. The girl's mother had passed, and it was Seru's duty to look after the child.

He'd been a bit taken aback upon hearing the news from Corine's Mother, and at first, angry. Had he known he'd impregnated the woman, he'd very much have liked to raise the child as well, but then, he supposed He and Corine's Mother wouldn't have lasted. They had a spark of passion, but he doubted they would've been compatible in the long run.

He worried, though, about how she would adjust to life here. He didn't differ much from people outside the reserve, actually. While some others scorned modern technology, Seru had no problem keeping with the current, and didn't let his age hold him back. He resolved that he would make it as easy for Corine as possible.

His thoughts were broken by a girl's voice. Seru's muscles tightened nervously. this was it, he had to meet his Daughter. Face to face. Getting to his feet, he opens his door, walking out to stand before Corine. "Hello, Corine... It's nice to meet you at last."

Corine saw the door opening and saw her father step out onto the porch. She swallowed, biting her lip. Well, people had always said she didn't look much like her mother. They were right. Her skin, her eyes, her hair... She looked just like her father... She couldn't believe it.

"Hello..." She paused uncomfortably. Unsure of whether of not she should call him dad... Sure, biologically he was her father, but she had never even met this man. Not yet, no, she wasn't ready for that just yet. It would take some more time before she was ready to call him dad, if she ever did.

She fiddled with the handle of her bag, looking up at him nervously. She wasn't exactly sure how to react at this point... There was so much to take in. So much she had never known about her life, about him. Now it was all being pushed on her at one time and she wasn't quite sure she was ready for it. She felt her phone vibrating in her back pocket. Probably a text from her boyfriend, asking if she'd made it alright. She'd respond later...
