Year 7011X2 The Krian Alliance

The Krian Alliance was formed hundreds of years ago by a combination of races in order to advance technology and exploration in the sector. Through the cooperation of the races, they succeeded in creating advanced engines, weaponry, medical technology, and many more. Spreading wide through the sector they inhabited planets, even changing inhabitable planets by altering the atmospheric layers to support life. It was through acts like this, that the alliance thrived and continued to advance...until a tragedy befell them.

It started as a rare case, a drop in the bucket for the alliance. A few people from the Cretilic (reptilian race) were the first to show signs of the illness. An unknown infection which attacked the very strands of the individuals DNA, causing the body to break down and attack itself from the inside. 50 years of study has come and gone since those first few cases, and the disease has spread wide and far, mutating and advancing to spread and attack the other races of the alliance. With no results from their exhaustive works of medicine, the Krian Alliance has decided to send small expeditions into corners of unexplored space. The hope, to find other species of intelligent and non-intelligent life to gain samples from. In hopes to discover a new way to modify or splice their DNA with another life form. The belief of changing the very core of their genetic structure to combat the disease.

It is here that we start our tale..

The scrapping of metal on metal was heard by Slyth's sensitive ears, as he pulled the cover of the propulsion thrusters control panel. While the ship they were given for this expedition could definitely not be considered outdated, the programs for many of the systems were outdated and needing of rewiring.
He had been assigned this task a mere 2 carspets earlier, his study of a recent invention cut short. He had been tasked to depart on one of the many expeditions to the outer rings of the alliance space. Since his expertise was in genetic makeup and he was combat trained, he was one of the first chosen for the task. He didn't particularly enjoy the idea, but one didn't argue with the higher ups, especially when they were the ones paying his salary. His second in command, an individual from another university, which branch he couldn't quite remember, had yet to show up.

Tala Chambers had been one of the other folk tapped to be a member of the expedition into unexplored space. She was, to a degree, combat trained. But that was hardly her primary purpose. Certainly she could handle herself in a fight with standard sidearms (up to and including her favorite weapon, the GK-08 flechette gun, a shotgun in layman's terms).

But one could hardly tell by her mechanic's jumpsuit.

A heavy duffle bag was slung across her shoulder as the came up into the control area of their ship. She had a tight cap pulled over her head, and the jumpsuit did much to hide the tight body that lay beneath. She might have even been androgynous at a distance, but there was no mistaking her voice.

"... you Slyth?" Tala called out when she caught sight of the wolf ahead. She swung her duffle off of her shoulder and fished around for her ID. "Tala Chambers -- I was told to come and report to you since we're both supposed to be primed for combat."

Not that there were many on their expedition that couldn't handle themselves. Space was deep, unexplored, and extraordinarily dangerous. One never knew what you might run into when and where no one would be around for millions of miles.

With a groan of irritation and effort, he held together two lead lines. Both planium tubes spewing cold gas on his arms. His large paws making the task in the small confined space of the innards of the ship quite difficult.

"Mind reading me your ID route number?" he asked, a light beep coming from his glasses as they turned on their secondary function. "I've got my hands full here."

Not bothering to turn around, he started to finish the last of the rewiring for the propulsion, not wishing for their vessel to have any weaknesses after takeoff.
