Avner looked at his watch. “I’m 15 minutes early! That is really out of character.” He mused to himself, as he came up the neatly carved path that led him through the blossoming villa that his daughter, Natalie, called home in the outskirts of Paris. He adjusted his navy blue blazer, fitting his well-trained body perfectly. It matched his red crimson trousers, and it was all as good as new. He had always been one to dress gallantly yet casual-like. Something that probably Natalie had picked up from him. Of his mom, she probably got the looks!
They had been to Paris 20 years ago, when she was filming her first film. She had been 12 then. So little and so full of questions and insecurities. Now she was a grown woman. He was sure she’d be the one to teach him a few tricks now.

He knocked on the door, and let his arms rest on his sides, waiting to bearhug his little doll as soon as she opened the door. He was dying to see her, even though the reasons he was there weren’t particularly happy. Damn that man, he thought as he rolled his eyes. He’d make her forget about her husband real soon. He had never approved of that ill-fated marriage. If it had been for him, she would have stayed single her whole life. Wasn't Avner man enough for her? He always told her she was his little gem, and that she would never need another man apart from himself. Of course, he said so half-jokingly, and actually never bothered his daughter with such comments.

Yet, as with all half-jokes, it was also a half-truth...

There were days that she just felt great, life was...amazing! Having all the money in the world fixed a lot of problems. But not all of them. At times, it WAS the problem. Her and her husband were currently arguing a lot about her spending. Buying lavish furniture for the home of their children seemed to make him angry, to her, he was jealous of her wealth. Once argument lead to another and soon things which had no relevance in the matter were brought up as they took shots at one another.

Agreeing to take some space away from the Paris home, Natalie's husband decided to fly back to America. It was during this period that she invited her father to stay. The two most important men in her life didn't get along so with one gone, she brought the other.

Upon hearing a knock on the door, the woman left her children int he backyard as she walked through the house. Being quite small in height and living a grand house, she couldn't use the peep hole to see who it was, instead she peered through the glass window to the side and saw her father.

"Bonjour!" A smile spread across her lips which were covered in a light pink gloss, giving them a shine. "I know you don't like the French! Hey Daddy!" An American sounding voice came to light as she leaned in to hug her father, her head on his chest, always having to look up to him.

Barefoot, she tiptoed up to kiss him on the cheek before turning around and taking his hand, leading him in to the grand house. Wearing a small blue dress, it looked quite casual yet still made her look elegant. "I was just eating out back with some friends and the children, come join us!"

Upon looking at his sweet daughter Natalie, Avner realised something was amiss. He had travelled all the way from the States to be with her during this hard period in her life, or so he had been led to believe. Her French husband was someone he hardly tolerated indeed. For her sake, he had managed to swallow his slurry speech, irritating table manners and slobbery smirk in one too many occasions. What his daughter had seen in him, he could not fanthom. One could not deny that their children had -thankfully- taken all the gracefulness and beauty of their mother's side.

Something was strange, indeed. the fact was, she was totally happy.

He held onto her hand as they walked into the sumptuous villa. He glanced at her all the way as they spoke, never leaving her side, never removing his eyes from her perfect profile and splendid figure. Had she not been Natalie Portman, many would have thought she was his latest romantic interest, as it was a well known fact he took a liking for young, perky but classy girls.

He greeted happily everyone present in the party, as well as his grandchildren. My, how had they grown! He was sad he had hardly thought about bringing a present for them at this time, as Natalie had occupied most of his thoughts since he took the long flight. There would time for that later, for sure.

Casually, as people resumed their conversations, he approached her ear and gave it a warm, gentle kiss. Perhaps one a bit too long for an actual father. He still loved the sensation all the same. He whispered, "That dress makes a old, frail man like me feel rejuvenated again. It simply looks grandiose on you."
