Our Guiding light has faded and gone away.
After 72 years on the air Guiding Light aired its last episode today.

Now if onyl that show the Old and the Useless.... I mean they Young and the Restless would do the same.
I have dyslexia so please forgive any spelling mistakes spell check may miss, or miss use of words... I try my best to catch them but usually miss some.

Reality TV and cable series pretty much stole the thunder of the old-school soap operas. Whenever the median age of your audience keeps creeping upwards year after year you pretty much know you're screwed...at least in the long run.
Still, pretty much every dramatic series on the air (or on On-Demand or DVD or whatever) owes some debt to the soaps. What I think would be cool is if they ran a retrospective on GL and aired old episodes, complete with the actual commercials that ran. It would be great time-warp material to see a show and commercials from, say, 1965. |
