Let's be honest, it's pretty easy to find quick and dirty smut around here. So these are story-focused ideas; though there's certainly plenty of room for smutty activities and amusements within them, the focus will be on exploring the story and world we create. Most of them are focused on challenging some of the varying cliches and tropes that pop up over and over in varying works, new ways of looking at old stories. If you've ever watched a movie or read a book, watched the characters do something silly and asked yourself "Why don't they just...?" then this thread is probably for you.

As the location of this thread suggests, I am most comfortable playing males opposite females. The ideal partner will be someone who's willing and able to participate in the story and world-building, not just rely on the other person to fill in all of the blanks around them. If you insist on classifying any given relationship as dom/sub, I prefer dom. However, most of these stories involve relationships that would avoid that particular paradigm. The plots are written such that, for the most part, either player or gender could fill either of the roles.

A Classic Hero/Companion - The brave Chosen hero and their faithful companion, battling together against all foes. Through determination and an unbreakable bond, they defeat the approaching darkness and constantly throw themselves into whatever danger they may find.

But What About - Everyone knows the Chosen One is a hero. He or she travels across the land, righting wrongs and slaying evil beasts. Countless rumors surround the Chosen One, painting them as everything from a ferocious human barbarian to a cunning elven sorceress. This makes it easy for a particular con artist with just enough illusion magic to claim to be the Chosen One, reaping all of the rewards that the mysterious figure never comes forward to claim. But things become more interesting when the con artist encounters the real Chosen One, a person so shy and unassuming that no one would believe they are the hero of legend and who would much rather live quietly in a peaceful cottage somewhere then go save the world.

A Classic Dark Lord/Princess - The Dark One has captured the Princess! Such a tragedy will never go unanswered, as heroes from across the realm set out to cut their way through the evil hordes and rescue the fair damsel.

But What About - The Princess has been captured, and she is not happy. The local hero is an idiot obsessed with his own reflection so she'll be damned if she sits around like a useless lump waiting for him to show up and take her back to a kingdom where they expect her to just look pretty, get married, and make royal babies. The Dark Lord would be happy if she'd just shut up and stay in her room, though he has to admit she has some intriguing ideas about organizing the troops and proper castle security. Maybe the Dark Empire could use a bit of a woman's touch...

A Classic Human/Alien - Aliens have invaded Earth, and the entire globe is focused on a desperate struggle to stay alive. The bloodthirsty, inhuman creatures have no regard for human life, and will slaughter us all to claim this planet for themselves.

But What About - What is wrong with this planet?! Our unarmed scout was barely there for two minutes before the natives shot it down, and when we tried to land and explain ourselves they slaughtered the landing party. And these savages are capable of space travel? At this point it's practically our moral obligation to wipe out these brutes before they can spread to other stars and do any real damage. And if a few bleeding hearts want to keep trying to talk to the primitives, that's their business.

A Classic Guard/Thief - Megacorporations have taken over the world. Amoral and uncaring about anything other then the almighty dollar, these companies will do anything for the bottom line without caring about who gets hurt. Only shadow operatives living on the fringes of society stand a chance of infiltrating their operations and sabotaging their nefarious activities.

But What About - You know why megacorporations had to take over the government? Because that's how you get things done. Now the only people in the world that are cold or hungry are the ones that live off the grid, and most of them choose that life. But these bloody shadow terrorists are always trying to ruin things, so corporate security has to step in. Which can get complicated when a certain guard and a certain shadow fall for each other, hard.

A Classic Magician/Human - The world of magic and monsters is real, and carefully hidden from modern society. Wizards and witches brush elbows with a blissfully ignorant population, happily living their lives filled with magic and wonder isolated from the world.

But What About - Stay hidden? Any halfway decent wizard could conquer the world in a week, why on earth would we stay hidden? Screw it, let's just take over before the idiot humans accidentally blow up the planet. Things will probably go down smoother if we have a political marriage or two as well, an example to point to and show the world that subjugation just makes sense.
