Bonding on the road (Albedo x MewMew)

It had been a ten hour car ride, with plenty more miles to go. Bryan and his mother had been driving across the country for some sort of family function. Something very important to his mother apparently, something that Bryan still didn't seem to understand. But he got dragged along during his summer break. For some reason his father couldn't come along, and his older sister was busy taking summer classes in college. Plane tickets were too expensive, so driving was one of the cheapest options.

Bryan had just turned 17 and had only just earned his driver's license, and didn't have much experience driving long distances. So it would mainly be his poor mother doing the most of the work on this multi day trip. He mainly sat back in the passenger seat, window down partially as the wind blew through his short black hair. Brown eyes blinked lazily as he stared at his cellphone. Watching the GPS track their car was like watching paint dry. Even though he had a young handsome complexion, his face was twisted into one of boredom and unamusement. He was sort of the spitting image of his father. Except much younger and in better shape.

They had just entered the state of Texas a little while ago. Whatever music was playing on the radio that his mother had been listening to was lost on him. Glancing over at his mom he could see she was pretty tired as well. Driving ten hours would do that. If his legs felt cramped, just imagine how she felt. Despite, being tired his mother still had a cheery pretty face.
Looking out the window the sun was setting on the horizon.

"Hey Mom, should we stop some where for the night. It's starting to get dark." Bryan spoke up. Signs on the highway mentioned motels within the next few miles.

Driving to Texas with only one person capable to drive was a mistake. Even so, if she didn't go to the family function, her sister would throw a fit. Like literally, she would throw everything at proportion. At most, she would only be able to say two words since her sister would interrupt her, ranting how important family function are since they rarely ever happen unless it is abolsolutely important. By all means necessary, as a mom of two, would rather not hear her sister's voice so here she is going to Texas again. She wish the entire family could have come but that wasn't going to happen. Of course she understand but preferably she would have liked if they could have gone as family.

Amber wished Byran had gone his license earlier however there wasn't any point on dwelling about it. Even if he could drive, he would probably be tired by now. She didn't want to overworked her son with driving to Texas. Besides it is job not his. Chancing a glance at her son, she noticed he handsome as ever, still wondering why he hasn't had a girlfriend yet, confuse her beyond words. Her son was gorgeous! After all, even though he didn't look exactly like her, he had her brown eyes and black hair. You see, she had short black curly hair with brown eyes that were light and warm. Speaking her body, it is voluptuous so she had everything in the right places. She didn't like to show her womanly figure to anyone unless it is her husband of family members.

Thank God they finally made it to Texas! Amber felt her eyes watering with happiness. Little overdramatic, huh? But you don't know how happy Amber is! She has been driving for hours, they are finally here. Glancing at her son again, she noticed he looked little lost, perhaps it was her music that lost him. The kids these days probably weren't into the oldies. Amber thought she should continue to drive even though how tired she is, she might as well continue since they are halfway there, they almost near their destination.

"Well okay." She replied, yawning. As she continued to drive, slowly but steadily, they finally came in view of a motel.

Bryan had no idea what this trip was about. It all seemed so sudden. He had just finished school for the year and had made plans with his friends over the summer, but it seemed he was going to be spending the beginning of it across the country in California. His mother made mention of some sort of family function, but why wouldn't she bring his dad along? He had noticed his mother looked distracted, or had been looking distracted a lot lately. Even as she drove them for ten hours straight she didn't say all too much. But Bryan was never really one to get into his mother's affairs. Or his father's either. He had been noticing that the two of them have been a little off around one another as of late. His father would go in for a hug of some sort and his mother wouldn't reciprocate. It had become more and more noticable over time. But Bryan always figured it was possibly a phase. But this road trip with out his dad, and his mother being so quiet had him a little worried for her, but he chose not to say anything. Whatever is happening will resolve itself with out his help he thought.

She picked a normal motel off the highway. Not the most glamorous of places, but definitely a place that looked like they wouldn't accidentally stab themselves on a used heroin needle stuffed into a mattress. When they parked Travis got out to stretch. He had been cramped in his mother's car for a long time and it felt good to get his legs moving once again. Whilst his mother was checking them in for the night, he made sure to grab their suitcases from the car so they could bring them to her room.

"So why are we going to my Aunt's all the way across the country again, some sort of family function?" Bryan asked his Mother as she unlocked their bedroom door. He let out a big yawn as they entered the room. Two full sized beds with a nightstand between them were all the room really had besides a tv and a bathroom in the back. It was all very standard looking. He dropped his bag on his bed that he claimed as his own for the night and turned to his mother.

Amber knew her son probably wondering why they were suddenly having a family function without his father coming along but she decided to leave it alone. She hasn't told Byran yet but Amber and her father isn't as love dovey as they used to be. And, frankly she would rather not make her son worried about such a trivial matter between them. For now, she will keep it to herself for Byran's sake. Already worse as it is for Byran since she knew he had plans with his friends over the summer but considering the situation at hand they had a change of plans

Considering she was tired, decidedly Amber went to the closest motel. Sure it wasn't located in finest of location however it would do. Besides they were only staying one night anyways. Thereafter she parked the car, she stretched her legs alongside her son who was glad they finally able to get the car after being cramped inside. While she left to check them in for the night, he let her son to get their bags.

"Yeah that's right." This sort of the truth so Amber left it at that. Unbeknown to Byran the reason why their even hear was because her husband wanted a break from her, figured she should take her son along for a mother-son bonding. As they made it into the room, Amber plopped down on the bed, content with how soft the bed was. Noticing her son's eyes were in him, she raised an eyebrow, simply smile at him. "Don't worry, we won't be here for entire summer." She reassured.

Bryan kicked off his shoes and joined his mom laying back and resting on his own bed looking up at the ceiling. It had been such a long drive it was strange to be sitting in a room with no motion in it. Bryan stretched his arms up in the air his sleeves falling down his shoulders. It felt so good to get his shoes off and to finally rest his legs. Spacing in the car was usually very cramped. He had the same complexion as his father, although he had his mom's hair and eyes. His skin was mixture between both of his parents. He didn't really think too much of his own looks and usually rolled his eyes when his mom would call him handsome.

"I'm not worried." Bryan turned his head towards his mother. "I did have plans and all with my friends but I guess they can wait until we get back. I would rather you be safe then driving to my Aunt's alone." Bryan said with a shy smile towards Amber. "It sucks we couldn't afford plane tickets. I've never been in a plane before." Bryan said turning his head back to look at the stucco ceiling. He was a bit concerned as to why his mom was keeping things from him. She wasn't telling him everything. Why did things seem so weird between her and dad, what was this out of no where family function he had to accompany his mom to. He hadn't seen his aunt since he was a baby. He had no idea just how stressed out and possibly lonely his mother was feeling.

Bryan's stomach growled. It had been hours since he and his mom ate anything. Being that it was near seven pm it was well past dinner time. Bryan looked up at the table near the tv and saw some menus. Sitting up he made his way over to the table and saw a number for a pizza place.
"Is it ok if I order us dinner mom?" He said turning towards Amber and waving the menu.
"How about you go take a nice hot shower and relax, Ill get us some food." He said with a smirk.

Laying on her side now, she moved closer to her son, caressed her fingers through his hair like she used to when he was little boy. Amber glad it was just her and Byran, they have not spend quality mother son time with each other in a long time. Figured she might as well spend time with him as much as she could considering her husband and her would be filing for a divorce pretty soon after they come back. Hopefully Bryan takes the divorce well, she remembered when she was a child, she didn't take the divorce between her parents very well. Unable to understand why they wanted to divorce each other when they appeared to be so happy. She assume that was a lie that they love each other, only reason they still was together because they had children.

"Ah honey that's so sweet of you!" Byran really could be a sweetheart most of the times! Touched by her son's words, reassuring her that he didn't mind going to Texas with her, she peck him on the cheek, continue to do so in a motherly way. "Don't worry sweetie, once we get back home, let's go on vacation, just the two of us I been saving by money from working so maybe we can go somewhere together?" She suggested, knowing she had a huge amount of money still in her savings. But where will they go first? "Any ideas of where you like to go?" She asked him as she continued to caress her fingers through his hair.

Amber chuckled when Byran's stomach growled. She knew he must be starving considering they hadn't had anything to eat for hours. "Yeah that's fine. Anything would be good with me." Not being a picky eater, Amber allowed Bryan to choose what they were going to eat. "Good idea, I will tske a shower. I will be right back." She kissed him one more time on the cheek, headed to the bathroom, taking her clothes with her.
