Life in hiding is hard, no matter how rich you are.Krystal had been hiding from him for the last 30 years. Dmitri, the ruthless Vampire hunter who blamed her for his families murder and his being turned 5 centuries ago. For most of those years, krystal and her husband were able to evade Dmitri, but almost 30 years ago to the day, he found her. He was about to kill her, when heroically her husband Xander jumped in front of her, taking the blow himself. She watched the light leave his eyes as he died. Dmitri had succeeded in taking the one person most precious to her away.

Krystal ran, hiding away from Dmitri, not wanting her husband's sacrifice to be in vein. She still mourns her love to this day, crying alone in her room. The only real comfort she receives is from her butler, Roreck, who occationally comes in and holds her. It was never enough though. She was still plauged by the misery of being without her love, her soulmate.

This particular day, she was feeling better, and needed to blow off some steam, so she walked down to the dojo in her etensive castle. She looked around, having already changed into her fighting clothes, looking for her samurai swords. They were a gift from Xander for their wedding long ago, and her prized possessions. "Where are they?" She voiced to herself audibly, looking confused. They weren't hanging in their usual spot by her glaive, so where could they be? This had her worried. She knew that Dmitri knew just jow much she treasured those swords. She needed to find tgem, and quickly.

Krystal asked ariund the castle, bug none had seen tgemnin days, not even roreck. She began to get ancy. Krystal needednyhose swords. They were the only thing she hadnleftnof hernlate husband. She looked through the yellow pages, one particular private investicater getting her attension. She wrote him a quick but beautifil letter, setting a port key in the shape of a ring with it. She hopedbhe would come. She desparately neede his help tobtrack down whoever stole her swords.

It was a long dry spell and the ring of the bell was like the soothing silver lining of the moon within the hopeless wanderings amongst the labyrinth if a dusky cave. Noctre felt like Thesues within the maze, searching for eminent doom in the form of the nefarious Minotaur. With absolutely no action and Noctre had realised that it was about time he gave up on this pursuit.

“Be a doctor!”
“Engineering is a great pursuit.”
“Business management, sure shot way into Wall Street.”

Those advices which appeared in the past to be ramblings and ravings now appeared to be apt advises.

‘Why?’ Noctre wondered, ‘Why did I ever decide to become a detective. This profession does nothing which it promises. No car chases, no action, no shootouts. It is just so dull.’

Noctre could not help but reflect upon his past mission. He was given the job to retrieve a missing dog. Even though he had finally found the dog, he had the despicable image of Jim Carey dancing around with expressions that would even put caricatures to shame.

‘Is this what I am going to be? A comic version of Ace Ventura? A pet detective?’ The very thought made Noctre even more depressed as with a loud Snap! Something exploded.

The cigarette that lay balanced between his lips and the efficacy of which had made the detective a human chimney, certainly tipped and went somersaulting and skydiving earthward and within less than a moment was being crushed and disembowelled below the detective’s shoe.

His board had once again fallen and he was not in the mood for this would have been the umpteenth time he would have screwed it back up. The board was so old and moist that it was difficult to discern that ‘Noctre Detective Agency’ was written in English of Chinese.

Presently Noctre’s mind was diverted elsewhere for while the board could wait, the call could not. “YES!” He had exclaimed with a clamp of his fist and a backward jerk of his elbow in celebration of the call.

Within moments he was up towards the phone a such a pace that would easily make Usain Bolt want to dig his own grave and sprint into it, he answered the phone. It was made by a woman with the sweetest voice Noctre had ever heard and he decided that he wanted to speak to this woman not just for any job.

“Hello,” He said and could already feel a grin upon his face.

Krystal smiled a little herself since he picked up. "Hello, my name is Krystal Kobayashi and Ibam in need of your assistance. I'm being chased by a man with a grudge, and the only piece I have of my late husbsnd has gone missing. I believe that the man may have had something to do with it." She explained, not going into enough derail to let on that she was inhuman. She twirled her long blue hair around her finger as she talked, feet up on her deep cherrywood desk as she relaxed back into the chair. She couldn't place it, but there was something so very familiar in that one gello, she could feel her heart begin to ache for Xander once again.

Krystal began talking again, rocking slightly in her leather uphostered office chair. "On your desk you will find a letter and a ring. Keep the letter on you, because once you put the ring on, you will arrive somewhere new." She told him simply, meaning her hidden castle on the outskirts of newyork, near the bottom of a mountain. She continued on to explain just what went missing, hoping he would accept her kind offer. She would pay him a million dollars to find her precious swords.

Deja vu: A feeling that what has happened has already happened before. This was what Noctre was experiencing at the moment as if this moment had happened before. The voice of the woman felt so familiar that it almost made him cringe with desire. It made him yearn for something he had decided to put aside in order to pursue his career. The very voice of this woman who called herself ‘Krystal Kobayashi’ made the detective yearn for love, for affection, for need of a woman within his arms.

‘Why am I feeling like this?’ Noctre wondered. But he was unable to place the reason for this experience and decided to ignore this most innate calling of his awareness. Presently he paid heed to her words and nodded in apprehension. He held the letter in his grasp just as the woman had asked. But the second order appeared to leave him flummoxed. “I will what...” His words were cut in the very middle as he put the ring on his finger for Noctre experienced an intense stretching and distortion of his limbs which he never believed possible.

Within this state of formless limbo he felt he was being heaved and lurched towards something. ‘What is going on?’ He wanted to ask but he could not even think for he did not even know the location of his thoughts.

But then the detective found himself before a deserted mansion in the middle of what he assumed was nowhere. “What the fuck?” He exclaimed and scratched the long mane of dark hair as he wondered what to do next. ‘This must be a dream. Yes, definitely a dream and where the dream takes you, you must explore.’ Therefore, like an excursionist, he decided to explore and grabbed the massive knocker which hung upon the fangs of the face of a man engraved in gold upon the door and knocked. “Hello,” He asked, “Anybody in there?”

Krystal smiled slightly. So it would seem that the heroic private investigator would hear her plea. His voice was like velvet as he spoke, and she couldn't help but think of her late husband as she heard him speak on the phone. There was just something about the vernacular he used and the sound of the words rolling off his tongue brought a feeling of nostalgia to the pretty queen. She twirled a piece of hair on her finger, knowing it would not be long now.

The mansion was far from abandoned, though to his eyes it would look just that. Powerful magic was wrapped around the great stone mansion, in order to keep its owner safe. Thick, green vines with leaveas like elephant ears ran all along the three story tall building, wrapping around it as if to camouflage it. The stone was a dark grey, but through his eyes he would see it bleached by the sun and brittle like kindling for a fire. Behind large iron gates held an expansive garden, which looked only slightly overgrown, as if someone had trimmed it, perhaps recently. The knocker was a fresh polished gold in contrast to the rest of the mansion, the fanged man actually a dragon, the large mahogany door showing an intricately cut blooming japanese cherry tree. Though the door was slightly faded, you coukd still see it deep color if you looked at a certain angle.

At the knock on the giant mahogany door, a man with hair cascading down his back appeared, giving the man a smile. He bowed graciously, the only real sign of his emotion hidden in his deep blue eyes. "Good afternoon, sir. I am Roreck, the caretaker of this mansion. Have you an invitation from the lady of the house?" He asked, face as blank as a fresh piece of paper from a printer. In order for the man to see what lies beyond the magic, he must possess a simple letter, written in the scrolling and intricate hand of the lady of the house, who'd called him only moments before. Without that proof, Roreck would have no choice but to wipe away what memories thebman posses of this lonely mansion on a cliff. The less people who knew the location, the better. If the hunter were to find them, there would surely be bloodshed.

The knock on the door was loud and repeated. Noctre was quite sure by now that all this was a dream from which he would awaken soon. He expected to be brought back to reality by the blaring of his loud alarm anytime now. But the alarm did not sound. The only sound that came to his ears was the sound of the knocker upon the old dilapidated door. It was certainly possibe that there was no resident within this ruined premise. It was covered with vines and the building appeared as if it would crumble and fall over him if he dared enter it.

‘This is a dream,’ Noctre reminded himself, ‘Even if the building does fall on my head, I will just die here and wakeup in real life.’ The detective laughed off the thought and watched as the door opened. Before him was a Butler who appeared quite formal and dapper. Then he began to think, ‘If the owner of the house can afford the wages of a Butler then why can’t she pay to repair this dump?’

The butler was standing stiff, his gaze was cold and nonchalant and the detective winced at his expression. He demanded an invite and thinking back, Noctre remembered the words of the woman on the phone. “Keep the letter on you.” She had said. Being a detective, adding two and two was his job and he deduced the significance of the letter immediately.

Pulling the crumpled envelope out of his jacket pocket, he shoved it forward into the clean palms of the Butler. The Butler extracted a monocle from his jacket and placed it upon his eye. ‘That is quite the aristocratic Butler.’ Noctre concluded. Pulling the parchment out of its casing, the Butler examined it while scratching his chin.

“Yes,” Replied, the Butler, “please take your seat upon the dining table. The lady of the house shall greet you shortly over dinner.” With these commands, the Butler eloped within the confines of what appeared to be a lavish and cavernous palace.

“This place seemed a lot worst from the outside. But it is beautiful within.” He commented, gazing around the large well decorated hall, the magnificent chandelier hanging overhead. Noctre made his way over to the dining table. It was large and could easily seat almost thirty people. “She must party hard to have something this big.” He said and then took his seat at the corner of the table and waited for the ‘Lady of the house’.
