Surviving in Shadows [Saria & CharlotteV]

Lucas nodded, mussing Max's hair before reaching for the rest of the pictures and storing them back in the side pocket. "Me too." He packed away the food before going through the weapons, making sure the knives were clean before storing them. He had a single gun they'd picked up ages ago, but it had only five bullets left and he'd never been desperate enough to use it. It usually stayed buried in the bottom of his pack. He checked the clip and safety before putting it back in.

He grabbed a bottle of water and took a few sips, leaning back against a tree.

Max eventually went back to his own pack, digging into the bottom to pull out a wallet he'd snagged a long time ago. It'd belonged to some kid, had been tucked under the pillow in his long abandoned room, filled with a library card and a few crumpled bills Max had gotten rid of then. He'd only kept the thing because it had the Deadpool mask on it. And of course, Wade Wilson with his snarky mouth, was Max's faovirte comic book character.

Now, the wallet had a purpose, and he carefully slid the photo inside of it to keep it safe. It wasn't much bigger than wallet size anyway, and the edges could be spared. Then he did as Lucas had, packing his things back up, tossing away junk that he didn't need. Then he sighed, sat back against a tree himself, stared out at the nothingness in front of him.

Kithiel was still sleeping soundly, the earth was still, the weather was decent if a little cold. They were...fine. The fingers on his left hand moved slowly, stroking the bandages under his shirt that rested against his right bicep. Well, not fine, but the danger wasn't immediate at least.

"So..." he started when the silence got too much to take, "Wanna try making out for a bit." He winced after he said it. Max generally didn't have much of a filter - he said whatever came to mind, but he'd had a few secrets. One was how bad his nightmares had been, and the other was his gigantic crush on his big brother. Now both of those were on the table, and apparently that meant free to fly out of his mouth whenever he thought of them.

Lucas eyed Kithiel a long moment before closing his eyes, dozing on and off until Max's question stirred him awake. "What?" He rubbed at his eyes and let his head shift to the side to squint at his brother, not quite sure he'd heard right. He cleared his throat, reaching over to ruffle his brother's hair, fingers lingering at the back of his neck. "We... could..." Nerves fluttered in his stomach at the thought of... actually doing... things. He couldn't quite believe they'd gotten to this point.

Max winced again when he realized Lucas actually was awake enough to hear him, and he blinked innocently at the older male when his attention was focused on him, squinting like he was trying to make sure he'd heard what he had. Max wanted to backtrack, laugh and say he was kidding, anything. But before he did, Lucas' fingers were in his hair, then warm against the back of his neck, and when his brother finally spoke...it wasn't negatively. Instead it was...accepting.

Max felt his eyes go wide in surprise, unable to stop it. "W-what?" he asked, stuttering over the question without meaning to. His eyes dropped down to Lucas' mouth of their own accord, then back to his eyes, then repeating the process. Seriously? Were they going to do this? Nerves twisted at him, made his heart pound against his chest. But there was something else, too. Anticipation, maybe. "Really?"

Lucas shifted, running his tongue against his lower lip and watching Max comprehend that he wasn't saying no. He shrugged and rubbed his fingers against his brother's neck. "If you want." He stretched his legs out, tugging gently to pull Max closer. Coaxing Max into his lap was nothing new, but he hooked his arms around his brother and rubbed along his arms and back in a soothing manner. He tilted his head and let his forehead rest against Max's, trying and failing to keep his breathing completely steady.

Max watched the drag of Lucas' tongue agains his lower lip like he'd never seen it before, and he couldn't really comprehend why it was so sensual...but it was.

He did want. He wanted so much that he found himself nodding in a way that felt like his head was too loose, but it didn't matter. Nothing mattered other than the fact that Max was being tugged into Lucas' lap, and he went easily, felt each touch against his arms and back like it burned. His brothers forehead touched his own and Max squirmed a bit, eyes dropping down to the other boys mouth again. His fingers found themselves twisting into Lucas' shirt, against his chest, and they were so close. And he wanted this so bad. "Um...I don't know how to..."

He figured it was instinct, actually, but he'd never...kissed anyone before. He didn't want to mess it up. He really didn't.

Lucas laughed softly though it was more a release of nerves than amusement. It wasn't like he had much experience in the area either, but there had been that one time years ago, before the hunters had gotten their scent and then they were always on the run from one thing or another. He slid his hand up to stroke his fingers against Max's cheek, brushing his thumb against his lips as he inched his own closer. He hesitated a breath way and slid his fingers into Max's hair, tugging him closer as he pressed their lips together. He kept it chaste, a gentle pressure of lips, and his eyes slid closed with a soft exhalation.

"Shut up," Max muttered, voice barely above a whisper, but even he knew his brother wasn't necessarily laughing at him, he just needed something to say. He was much too aware of Lucas' hands on him, on the way his fingers stroked against his cheek, on the thumb against his lips. It made his breath stop, made his heart stutter in his chest. Lucas had touched him before...so many times, but it was nothing like this.

And then they were kissing, actually kissing. Lucas tugged him closer and Max went easily, fell into him, and it wasn't that difficult of a thing to pick up after all. It still took him a second...between the shock and the desire, but he got with the program. His fingers tightened in Lucas' shirt, eyes fell closed, and the barest of moans left his throat. He'd wanted this for so long...and even as chaste as it was, it was exactly what he'd dreamed of.

Lucas slipped his arm around Max when he leaned into his chest, curling his fingers against Max's hip before his hand wandered up and under Max's shirt, sliding against the warm skin of his lower back. He pulled back enough to look at Max, bumping their noses together before pressing a kiss against it instead. "Good?" he asked, keeping his voice soft as he ran his fingers up Max's spine. He leaned back in if the answer was yes, flicking his tongue out against Max's lips, wanting to taste him, kissing him again with a bit more pressure.

He was starting to feel a little dizzy, actually. Everything was...too real. Lucas was so warm against the chilly air, and he was very aware of the fingers that curled against his hip. Then there was a hand up under his shirt, the skin a little rough and warn, but it was exactly the kind of feeling he wanted, he expected, the kind that made a gasp fall off his lips.

When Lucas pulled back he was breathing harder than he expected, could hear his blood rushing through his veins, and he wanted to chase his brother's lips, to get another kiss. The one against his nose made him smile though, chuckle breathlessly. "Good, great, wonderful," he answered, pulling on the mans shirt a little, one hand moving up to tangle in short strands of hair when he felt Lucas' fingers travel up his spine.

Then he was being kissed again, and nothing else mattered but getting more, getting closer, and he found himself opening up when Lucas' tongue touched his lips, found his grip tightening, dragging his brother closer to him if it was even possible.

Lucas practically purred into the kiss as he slipped his tongue past Max's lips. His hands slid against Max's back, sides, and chest, trying to touch every inch of flesh. He felt a bit overwhelmed with the urgent desire trying to surge through him - this was like every wet dream he'd ever had coming true - but he did his best to keep his movements slow. He wanted to savor this, wanted to find every spot that would bring Max pleasure, wanted to show him there was still good in the world, no matter how small.

He grazed his teeth against Max's lips, suckling at the bottom one as one hand settled at Max's lower back, the other inching up to circle Max's nipple. He squeezed it between his fingers, tugging and teasing it before soothing it with his thumb.

Max had never actually considered his skin to be sensitive...cold water was annoying, but not unbearable, he got hurt more often than he'd like to admit, his hands were rough from being outside most of the time. Eventually, he grew numb to things, didn't feel them as much. But Lucas...he can feel Lucas, so much it almost aches. Every soft stroke of skin against skin is like heaven on earth. There's a spot on his back that it feels particularly good, a place on his sides that makes him arch up and stretch with it, a brush over his stomach that causes his insides to flip. Already it was amazing...and he knew, in the back of his mind, that there was so much more than just this.

His brothers teeth against his lip make his heart skip a beat, the way that his lower one is sucked on just a little makes him push closer, but it's nothing compared to the touch on his nipple. "Holy shit wow," he gasped out, hips rolling forward of their own regard at the fucking feeling of that.

Lucas grinned against Max's lips, propping their foreheads together as he tugged on a nipple again. "Like that?" He shivered as Max rocked against him, a flush of warmth and pleasure rushing through him before hesitating as it finally sank in completely just what they were doing. Not that it changed the wanting of it, but he'd never been... intimate with anyone and rarely had the opportunity and desire at the same time to masturbate. He nuzzled his nose against Max's, hoping his brother couldn't see his embarrassment.

"Uh huh," Max answered, not even caring how gone he already sounded, as he was tugged at again. He'd never really thought about doing that before...sure, he'd seen it once or twice, in the few articles of porn he'd found stashed in houses. Pictures of men standing with one hand around their cock and another holding onto a peck, but it'd never really...crossed his mind as something he'd enjoy. And he did. A lot.

"This is uh...really intense," Max muttered, leaning in slightly for another quick kiss. "Not that I'm complaining! I just...didn't...except that."

Lucas smirked, lips lingering against Max's. He slid his hands away from the sensitive nipples and trailed down to rub against Max's sides and stomach before grasping the bottom of his shirt. He hesitated and glanced up. It wasn't like they hadn't seen each other naked before, but this was decidedly different than bathing or changing.

For a moment, Max just kind of...held his breath. It was already intense, and they were still wearing clothes. How did anyone actually make it to sex? Was that where they were headed?! Holy fuck. Holy fuck fuck fuck. Before he even realized what his thought process was, he was nodding a little bit, pulling his hands off his brother so he could lift his arms up over his head. His bicep was still bandaged, and the movement caused it to sting a little, but against everything else...that feeling was fairly dull.

Lucas hesitated before tugging Max's shirt off and dropping it to the ground beside them. His fingers traced over Max's arms and chest, leaning forward to press his lips against Max's neck and trailing down his chest to draw a nipple into his mouth.

Kithiel stirred as his wounds healed enough to let him out of the deep state of healing sleep he'd fallen into. He let out a soft, pained growl as he shifted, cracking his eyes open and blinking at Lucas and Max. We shouldn't stay here much longer. He wasn't sure how long he'd been out, but it didn't feel like more than a few hours. They could probably get away with staying another day, but he didn't want to take that chance if he didn't have to.

That was different...everything was different. It still blew his mind, because it wasn't like Lucas hadn't touched him before, but there was...so much purpose behind it now. And if he'd thought kissing was good, it was only because he'd never had that mouth on his neck, or the hollow of his throat, or - "Holy fuck."

Heaven on earth didn't last long though, because Kitheil's fucking voice was suddenly everywhere in his head. It scared him so much he almost dislodged himself from Lucas' lap completely, but instead he just kind of curled up into himself, pressing his forehead against his brother's chest. "Oh my god, Luke, your wolf has the worst timing ever."

Lucas pulled back with a start when Kithiel woke, glancing over Max's shoulder at the wolf with a mixture of relief and guilt at being relieved. "My wolf?" he asked dryly, rubbing Max's back and reaching for his shirt to help him get it back on.

Kithiel stared at them in silence a long moment as he caught the scent of arousal coming from the both of them. Well, that was... unexpected. I have the worst timing? How had humans even survived this long when they made habits of letting their guard down at the worst possible moments?

He carefully shook himself and got halfway to his feet before giving up and slumping back down into the grass. His entire body ached and there was also the internal ache of using far more power and energy than he safely should have.

The last thing Max wanted was to put his shirt back on, but even with Lucas help his hands were a little shaky, and he had a feeling it might have actually been a good thing they got interrupted. Anything he did with Lucas he was sure he wouldn't regret...but he was also way out of his element, and with the way they'd been going.

"Well he's certainly not around for me," Max mumbled, but that statement actually settled a little heavier in the air than it should have, given the bandaging on his arm. He chewed at his bottom lip for a moment before rolling himself away from Lucas, dropping his hands uselessly in his lap and watching Kithiel try to move. He narrowed his eyes slightly at the passive aggressive wording, but it wasn't worth the argument. "Dude, I don't think you're going anywhere."

Lucas blinked at his brother, feeling a fresh wave of something like guilt as Max slid off his lap. He hesitated a moment before resting his arm around Max's shoulders, pulling him closer as he turned his attention to the wolf. He could feel an echo of Kithiel's pain and winced. "We can stay here another day... I'll be able to help heal you more in the morning." He wasn't sure how he knew he'd be recovered enough by then, but... he seemed to be rebounding faster every time he used his powers. Or maybe it was just the sheer desperation fueling it. Either way, he didn't see them going anywhere until tomorrow at least.

Kithiel bared his teeth with a weak growl before slumping down and resting his head on his paws. It's not safe here.

Lucas sighed and leaned back, resting his head against the tree and staring up at the sky through the leaves. "Nowhere is safe." He was starting to doubt that even the beacon of light urging him towards it was even safe, but... it was the best chance they had, even if they only stayed a few days. Just long enough to get back to full strength and then... What then? It wasn't like there were many places they'd be welcome to stay, even if they could keep the fact they had powers hidden. Which was unlikely with a damn wolf companion.

His fingers curled tighter against Max's hip. He'd find a way to make sure they stayed safe. He had until now, he'd do it tomorrow and the day after that.

Max looked up at Lucas a little as the older boys arm settled around his shoulders, pulling him closer, and he went easily, let himself snuggle up a little even. He could claim it was for warmth but...really, he just wanted to be close. Lucas' words seemed fair, too. They weren't going anywhere. Both boys were still tired, Kithiel couldn't stand. One more day...they could make it one more day.

The wolf sure was fighting the hell out of that though.

The silence that ended up falling was heavy enough it started to bother Max, and he shifted a little bit to press a chase kiss into his brother's neck. "We'll be okay," he murmured. "We should eat though." He patted Lucas' thigh a little before he pulled himself up to go find their bags. Lucas had some peanuts in his, and Max himself still had a large can of tuna in his own. It made for a small meal, but it was a good protien boost.

After getting the can open, he split it up as evenly as possible, grabbed some water and took the portions to Kithiel and Lucas before settling back down right against his brother's side.

Kithiel's eyes flicked to Max and he was sorely tempted to say they'd be safe if Max weren't near them, but he knew that would only serve to piss Lucas off and likely create a rift between them that could break the tenuous bond they'd formed. It didn't help in the least that the two seemed foolish enough to seek pleasure with each other. He didn't even want to think what sort of trouble or outright chaos the mingling of their magic would cause, especially with Max lacking a tether.

He huffed a sigh and lowered his head to his paws again, closing his eyes until he caught the stench of long-dead fish and sneezed.

Lucas snorted in amusement, taking the food and nibbling at it, finding he wasn't too hungry. He ate half of his own before passing what was left to Max. His brother could do with the extra energy to help his wounds heal. "Eat it, Kith," he said, glancing at the wolf. Kithiel growled and Lucas rolled his eyes. "It's the best we can do without leaving the protective circle or whatever."

Kithiel glanced between the two, ears flicking back and forth a few moments as if listening for something. The river we were following is a few hundred yards that way, he said with a twitch of his tail towards the west.

Max ate his own food in silence for awhile, making a face at the way he knew his fingertips were probably going to smell like tuna for hours on end. He actually was hungry, between life events and nightmares, so he didn't complain when Lucas passed his portion over. Better to eat it than let it go to waste, at the very least.

He rolled his eyes at Kithiel's obvious disdain and shook his head. "Do you feel like walking a few hundred yards? Because I don't." Actually, a few hundred yards wasn't that far, it'd only take a couple of minutes. But he was feeling bratty, no surprise.

Kithiel heaved a sigh, lowering his head back to his paws. Fresh food will do us all more good than... whatever you are eating.

"Pickers can't be choosers... Or something." Lucas eyed the sky and made a face at how early it still was. It was barely noon, or just past it. "Can you tell if anyone followed us here?"

I sense nothing. But my energy is focused elsewhere. It would take the rest of the day and most of the night at this rate to get him into traveling condition again and he hoped they would stay safe until he was fully recovered at least.
