Retirement. After only three books, Garrick Morris was calling it quits. His horror novels had reached minor praise, but some referred to his work as schlock. He had a small but dedicated fanbase start to amass after his second book Dungeon Queen, about a serial killing dominatrix. His last novel "Scalpel!", wasn't up to his standards, and he threw in the towel after exploring the mishaps of a nurse cursed to never save any patients. Garrick wasn't satisfied with his last two books, but his first publication The Black Salem Grimoire was his favorite. Witchcraft was seldom given respect as a force of evil in today's modern times. He felt the work brought out some fun scares as well as made witches respectable again.

The internet didn't take kindly to the news, some calling him a sellout while others wanted more. Comment sections filled up with sighs of relief and patronizing posts, thinking the world of literature was better off. Garrick didn't stop his passion, as he landed a job teaching graduate students about the themes in literary horror. As it so happened, he had also joined a committee of the professors running programs to encourage undergrads to explore and share their works with the public.

After the meeting was done, Garrick locked eyes with a woman across the room for a quick second. She seemed to be in her mid to late twenties, and he assumed one of the other instructors. He was new to the university, and had been acquainting himself with all the other educators. She approached him as he put out a hand to shake her surprisingly firm grip.

"Hello, I'm Garrick. And you are?" he asked flashing a brief smile.
