Renesme sat up in her bed and rubbed her eyes leaning back against the headboard. She couldn’t sleep and let her head gently hit the wall in frustration. In a couple of hours everyone would be getting ready to head to school. She missed Forks but she couldn’t complain about their new location for the past few years. They had moved to the number one spot in the world with the most rainfall. It was in Hawaii in Cherrapunji. It was a huge island and there were plenty of little towns on the outskirts but inland it was vast mountain ranges and tropical forest. It was a hell of a change from in state but Forks is where she was born, where she grew up the first five years of her life.

They left when she was only five but in psychical form she was maturely the age of fourteen. That had been only a few years after the battle; the battle between the Volturi and her family and many close coven. They were all fighting for her life, for her very existence. At that time she was only five years old and really had only lived three years. Her mother had done everything in her power to protect her and in the end she gave her very life protecting not just her but everybody. She could still remember just as clear as yesterday the sight and scent of blood on the fresh white snow.

She scooted to the edge of the bed letting her pale white legs hang over the edge as she held herself up with her hands. She could hear thunder in the distance. The biggest difference between here and Forks was mostly Forks was cloudy with just rain, very few thunderstorms. Here there were thunderstorms frequently. Her family had to stay out of the sunlight for good reasons because of their skin but she on the other hand could live pretty normally. She slept, she ate, and she breathed and had a beating heart. She could live off of blood and normal human food and for her fathers sake had learned to love and eat human food. She only feed off blood when she was very ill. She had attended what school she could without her rapid growth rate being noticeable.

This year was a special year because she was going to be exactly seven but that meant her full maturity at the bright young age of seventeen. The exact age her father was when he was changed. She looked exactly like a teenager as her father did. The rest of her family did besides Carlisle and Esme, they thankfully looked older but would always stay middle aged. It gave them the advantage to travel and constantly keep pretending to be high school students. Renesme clearly wanted to go to college and get a degree to work with animals; she loved wildlife and unlike her family could resist tearing them apart. Carlisle was in the process of trying to find programs and jobs for her future that she may be able to do without being put in danger. The Cullen’s were very protective so they wouldn’t go off on some mission alone.

There was a knock on her door and she turned and saw her father, already dressed and ready to go even though they had a few hours. He always knew when something was wrong. Edward had many gifts but his most known was his ability to read peoples thoughts of those around him. Renesme had learned like her mother’s gift to block him out but in some cases it was just natural for him to get past them.

Edward was tired. Over a century of life had lost its appeal after a while and for a time there wasn't much he lived for other than his vampiric family and feeding. Moving from cloudy town after cloudy town, trying to get by without being noticed and to keep fed and nourished without having the locals light up the torches and heft the pitchforks.

And then he met her.

Bella Swan. A shy and quiet teenager whom captivated his attention since he first saved her from that runaway car. She sought him out and pursued him when everything in and around her said she was better off without him, safer and happier without him. She didn't care. She sought him even when he pushed her away and another tried to move in to fill the void. Still she sought him. After their honeymoon on that island paradise and he trashed their room, he was afraid of hurting her too badly but then he knew that she wanted him no matter what he cost. Then when she was found pregnant with his child, he knew that he could push her away no longer. He fought tooth and nail to protect her and the conception of his child and then later at the war to protect his child.

The war always brings him down. His wife dying in his arms almost made him die right there, but there was one more thing he had that kept him afloat, his daughter. The same one that he feels is waking up and embracing the day. She always brings him back up. Getting up from his spot on the arm chair, he goes and looks in on his daughter, knocking on the door to respect her privacy.
