On the Edge (Thaedael&PoetDreamer)

Once Bri had woken up and realized that she had screamed so loudly, she had pulled the sheets over her head to hide from life. It had taken her a moment to realize where she was, but she had still jumped when she felt the bed shift, alerting her without her being able to see that someone was there, so close to her. Then a hand was touching her leg through the bed sheets, and she tried shrinking into a little ball.

No one was hurting her: that was the little mantra she had taken to telling herself in these situations so that she didn't completely freak out. Getting her breathing under control from her panicking state, the girl slowly pulled the sheets down from over her head, expecting to see Pierre. It was Michelle. "Oh, I'm so sorry for waking you up." From what she had heard of the roommates' conversation and from seeing Michelle storm out of the room and slam the door, Brielle was under the strong impression that the girl before her did not like her very much. "I....I should get going anyways. You can have your bed back."

The first cracks in the darkness of the night begun to give way to the dawn of a new day, the sky turning from the pitch black of a storm before to an early morning blue. It was still not light out, but already the sun had slowly begun to rise, semi-light already starting to creep into the room. It snaked it's way under thick grey curtains, the fabrics hanging on heavy brass curtain rods that were fasted to well above the window's lintel. On the sill, a bunch of picture frames, of a young girl and a young boy. Some pictures smiling, other pictures fighting. It told of a story of two children that continued to grow up side by side. Across hard wood floors, the early morning light crept, rolling to the foot of the bed, where Michelle sat.

Michelle was gentle, caressing at her side, the girl having tried to ball up under all the sheets that made up her bed. It was cute, something she expected a child to do. "It's ok" she said calmly, her voice trying to sound re-assuring and sweet to the stranger that had been dragged into her home uninvited. It was true that Pierre had been the one to drag the girl into their house, but she wasn't about to be the one that would play villain and kick her out of her house. Not yet at least.

"It's ok, go back to sleep" she said, smiling deeply.

At first, the girl was going to debate. This stranger was doing for her what her mother used to do for her...before the accident of course. She felt like a little girl needing her mom to fight off her monsters. Of course, now her monsters had matured, and now they were actually real. There were no monsters under her bed or in the closet, they were masquerading as her father and boyfriend, and it had taken her too long to fight them off. Now she was too broken. That's how she felt at least.

Instead of arguing though, Bri just nodded. "Alright." She said, her voice small like a child's as well. Her head rested against the pillow though and her hands held the sheets tightly to her so that no one could get in. Although her eyes were closed, she knew sleep wouldn't come to her anytime soon. Instead, she regulated her breathing and just laid there, waiting for Michelle to leave. Here she was, keeping the girl up late to take care of her, kicking the girl out of her own bed, and waking the girl up early to screams; she didn't deserve the niceness these people were showing to her.

A little after Michelle had left, Bri sat up. She looked at all of the pictures around the room, and the posters and everything that expressed this girls personality. Sleep never came to her. She watching the sky turn that beautiful orange/pink of sunrise. It was hard to believe that only a couple of hours ago she had watched the sun set on the edge of a cliff. Deciding that 8am was reasonable to wake up, she went out of the room, going to the bathroom quickly, before going out to cook breakfast for the people who did so much for her.

Content that all was right with the girl, Michelle excused herself silently, for fear of waking the girl, turning the switch of the light off with a flick of the wrist, her other hand wrapped around the handle as she drew the door closed. The room was in order, with very few possession in it to begin with, leaving what few objects that did populate the room to speak volumes about her personality. The bed itself was probably the finest of all luxuries in the room, the wooden frame having been pushed up and against the western wall of the room. Immediately across from Brielle was a simple desk, made of black metal pieces welded together, and glass panes that formed the surface upon which rested a laptop. The laptop hummed methodically, the closed screen folded in upon itself, but the machine still sounding as the fan whirred out from under it, lights blinking periodically. To it's side, a picture of what appeared to be Michelle's parents, and a cup full of pends and pencils. On either isde of the desk were shelves, that were wider than they were tall, sitting on squat metal frames. Upon their shelves were various textbooks, novels, and a collection of academic achievements; being medals, ribbons, or plaques. To her left was a wooden dresser, upon which a singular vase rested, in it's grasp fake silken flowers that mimicked the white blossoms of an apple tree, the plastic branched flicking upward and away from the neck of the vase. Opposite to this, was the window itself, where the sun continued to rise, the light blue dawn giving way to the fiery glow of an orange sunrise, not a single cloud in the sky in stark contrast to the night before.

Ducking out from under the room, she was in the secondary hallway once more. Directly across from her was a closed door, the sounds of a snoring person sounding out from under the crack in the doorway. To her right were two more doors, ending the hallway in a weird half angle, one door leading to what looked like an unlit laundry room, and the other, a full bathroom where an open window brought the full glory of the rising sun in through it's east-facing window. The light shone off the reflected tiles of the bathroom, only by the partially covered floors that were draped in small floor mats were her eyes given time to adjust. The bathroom was simple, a simple bathtub/shower combination unit set against the eastern wall, a tiny sliver of a frosted window the only source of natural light. Otherwise, it was simple, a single porcelain sink, a single porcelain toilet, and a metal rack that held all the various needs of a male and female university students.

Content at having dealt with her natural needs, she once more forced the floors to crack under her feet as she made her way down the main hallway in the direction of where the kitchen was, passing the half-bathroom that fed off the hallway. The hallway ended in the main entrance way, that in itself opened upon a combined family room and eating area, the open air concept leaving much space to be utilized by the two students. Sprawled across the couch that had dominated the living area of the space was the man who had saved her before, his form hanging haphazardly from the couch, his discarded shirt and pants on the table across from the couch. Instead, she made her way past the dining table, heading under the open archway into the kitchen.

The smell of food had stirred him awake, his sleep having not come easy, and interrupted many times through the night as he shifted awkwardly against the cushioning of the couch. He stretched his arms up and above his head, shoulders and elbows cracking as he did so, before he finally got out of the bed. Rubbing the sleep form his eye, Pierre moved into the kitchen, the form of the girl blurry against the window that lit the room.

"Morning Michelle. What are you cooking?" he asked, before yawning and stretching once more, the action punctuated by the sounds of born joints cracking.
