...wouldn't you like to know?
Rain pounded against the windshield of a police car as it drove down the road, in the back of the car sat a very sullen looking young teenager. Ai Matthews Stared out the rain soaked window watching the trail of rain drops as she fought the urge to cry, just earlier that day the young seventeen year old had learned that her parents had died leaving her practically an orphan. Before she could even properly greave the police had come with a social worker to inform her that she was to live with an uncle she had never heard of nor met. At first she couldn't believe what they were saying, but as it sunk in Ai couldn't help but get angrier at the man who was supposed to be her uncle as well as the rest of the adults around her. In the end she had run off letting the rain soak into her clothes as well as every other part of her trying to drown out her sorrow as well as every other feeling that was overwhelming her. Of course, the police had ended up locating her. Ai had gone to her house, the place were her parents had been shot by a robber. Naturally she had been scolded before being escorted and locked in the back of a police cruiser but not before being allowed to grab some things from her room.

Looking in the rear view mirror the officer tried to comfort Ai but didn't succeed as she ignored him, sighing softly the young officer brought his attention back to the road. After a few hours of driving in complete silence the car drove up to a house. Ai's thoughts were interrupted as the officer began explaining things to her that had already been said, like how her uncle was now her guardian and how she would live with him until she was 18 and so on and so forth. Rolling her eyes Ai waited as he got out of the car and opened her door, grabbing a black backpack Ai walked with the officer up to the front door light brown, almost a strawberry blond, bangs covered her face as the doorbell was rung.

Harry had not been happy about the split with his younger brother when he married but could not help it. Over the years he tried to reconnect but it never happened so he was still estranged from them when the news came through.
He did what he felt was the right thing under those circumstances and offered their daughter somewhere to stay and finish growing up.
Memories came flooding back to him as he sat in the living room, thoughts smashed by the door bell and standing he walked casually across to grip and turn the handle on the large wooden front door. His blue eyes made immediate contact with the officer's, not noticing the adolescent girl there as he spoke.
"Do come in , can I get you something to drink"

The officer smiled kindly at the older man, "I appreciate the offer thank you" seeing as a break from driving through the horrid weather would be nice the officer took him up on his offer. Clearing his throat softly the young man smiled gesturing towards Ai, "This is Ai Matthews, Ai this is your uncle... Mr...." He paused for a moment unsure of what the older man wished to be referred to as. When the door had opened Ai had looked up at the older man, blushing slightly at his appearance she ducked her head down letting her bangs cover her eyes, even ignoring the officer who introduced them.

Harry smiled and looked at Ai for the first time, she had already grown into a fine young adolescent female.
"Its Harry Young" he said to the officer.
Walking to the kitchen he set about making coffee for the officer before returning to the lounge, setting the coffee down in front of the officer.

Following Harry into his house the officer sat down on a couch nodding his thanks as Ai's uncle brought him coffee, "Thank you sir, the weather out there is horrible...." Ai leaned against the wall watching the two adults talk not really saying much to either of them, once the officer began to talk about her she decided to explore the house since she didn't think they really needed her. As the officer explained the situation with Ai as well as what had happened earlier he sighed softly sipping the coffee. "This is delicious... Anyway, Ai isn't really a bad child, she's just hurting and I can kind of understand why she did what she did. I hope you won't hold it against her Mr. Young, right now I think more than anything Miss Matthews just needs time to heal. Not only did her parents die but she also had to move and start over from scratch. Also, if you need anything just give us a call. I assume most of her paperwork has already been sent to you but if anything is missing just let me know and I will get it for you" As he spoke the young officer handed Harry a card with his number on it.

Harry listened to the officer's words, each one sinking in very easily and taking the card he glanced around for Ai before speaking. "Thank You officer and I will give her the time needed."
He paused and set his own cup down.
"Do I need to sign anything else before you leave and do hope the rest of your shift is not too busy."

Standing the officer finished his coffee before setting the cup down gently, "No that should be it and thank you again for the coffee" Heading towards the door he paused a moment before looking to see whether or not Ai had popped back up, seeing as she hadn't he would sigh softly before turning to Harry. "Thanks again, as for work well we shall see. Considering the weather lets just hope one run away was all I had to worry about. Have a good evening." With that said the officer left. Once he was gone Ai came back into the living room, looking her uncle over once she blinked before crossing her arms over her chest. "So where is my room?"

Harry watched the officer leave and just having closed and locked the front door he turned to meet Ai's gaze.
"Ai your room is the third room on right upstairs, would you like something to eat perhaps."

Clicking her tongue Ai rolled her eyes before turning to head off towards the stairs, and her bedroom. "Like you care, you've never once been around so don't bother acting like you care about me or anyone in my family now that you have to take care of me." Walking off Ai went upstairs and slammed the door to her room shut, throwing the bag onto the floor she would fall onto the best burying her face into it as she started to cry. It felt like her heart was being torn into a million pieces and until now she had been unable to cry, Ai hated crying in front of other people more then anything. Even though her parents were her best friends and they were supposed to go to the beach that day Ai had been selfish, she had called them and begged them to come get her at school and that's when they had gotten into an accident. She hadn't even taken the time to see them off safely that morning before rushing out of the house to go to practice. The fact that they had died was all her fault and she couldn't do anything about it.

Harry heard her words and watched her go, he was about to follow her but changed his mind. The officer's words still ringing in his ears, yes she needed lots of time and he could give her that.
Another coffee and some television time before bed was what he took, around midnight he shut off the television and started to drift off to sleep in the recliner chair that sat in the living room.

Having fallen asleep while crying Ai woke up to a growling stomach, sighing softly she pulled out a cellphone to look at the time. Seeing that it was midnight she grumbled softly before pulling herself out of bed, changing out of her clothes Ai pulled on a baggy button up shirt over a pair of boy shorts before making her way downstairs. If she was lucky her supposed uncle would be asleep in his room, rubbing at her eyes Ai forced her eyes to stop tearing up. Moving into the kitchen the young teenager would quietly look through all the cupboards, finding things to make a sandwich Ai went into the fridge and pulled out some jelly before setting out pieces of bread, all the while her stomach continued to growl. Annoyed she rolled her eyes and whispered to herself "I get it you are hungry be quiet!"

Harry had barely heard her wake up and knew she must be hungry but rather than crowd her he stayed in the recliner quietly drifting back off to sleep.
