Dane looked over the aquamarine ocean as he rides on his large sailboat. His fishing line still in the water, but no fish is getting the bait so far. He made a gloomy sigh, realizing how miserably alone he was

After inheriting a grand amount of money from a deceased relative, Dane gone from a part-time worker to a retired 25 year old "Richie Rich". Because of it, many people, including lots of women, suddenly wanted to be with him, but Dane knew they just wanted to squeeze money from him. It's funny how people will completely ignore when you don't have so much as a fancy limousine or big mansion.

Dane however didn't splurge all of his money on fancy thing. He simply got himself a nice Volswagon and a not-to-big house, some miles from the city. However, as happy and content as he was, he still wished that he would meet someone who would like him for him, not for his fortune.

Dane made another sigh, shifting attention back to his fishing.

Fish swam around in the vast blue Caribbean sea, the cost's water was blue, transparent revealing much of the fish beneath. Like wise, it was easy to look out the water too. Sadly, humans did not seem to come to these parts this time of the year. Which was probably why her instructor had led them through here, explaining much of their under water 'magic'.

Her people were connected to the ocean by nature. Not that they actually "spoke" to the animals under the water, but they did communicate with certain mammals, using them for certain things, such as changing seasons, and migration periods, also hunting certain animals for food. That being said, they had an island where most mer-folk migrated to in certain mating seasons, it would provide as shelter for them, plus it was uninhabited by humans. Safest place. Which was where her school was going at the end of this trip.

Orabelle sighed slightly, bubbles bubbling up to the surface. What was that shimmering in the distance? She glanced around, none of her friends, and fellow 'students' were around. She had risen quite early today. Normally in these waters, her instructor would recommend waiting till evening before heading out. It was still probably late noon she guessed from the heat of the sun.

Orabelle had pearly white skin, her eyes silvery orbs, what seemed to shift color. Which now seemed to be dark blue, her hair was raven black, shimmering a slight blue against the sun rays. Her upper body bare, save for seaweed seemingly woven in such a manner that it became like a bikini top. Her people learned how to weave when they went on land, learning that this was the human's 'way of life' to cover certain body parts. They obviously inherited that bit.

Her abdomen seemed to hold two separate thigh bones, there was a bent where the knees should be, like wrapping someone in plastic tightly. Her fins were much like a fighter fish's. There were many types of fins among her people, she just happened to have the genetic make-up to make this one. Navy blue in color, her tail could easily be masked underwater. Her hair in an odd braid-like style moved around in the water as she swam.

She approached the odd shimmering piece, what is this? Realizing too late it was a human contraption she got caught in the net. She screamed, bubbles oozed out of her mouth, but then she kept quiet, afraid. Her heart beat accelerated. Hell! She was in deep trouble now! How could she have missed the boat!? Her delicate fingers curled around the net ropes looking around frantically, tears streaming down her cheeks, easily mixing with the sea water that drenched her.

Dane started pulling the net, wondering what he caught that was so heavy. "Wow..must..be some big catch..A Swordfish?...or maybe a bunch of Bass?.." Dane said as he kept pulling the heavy catch. He wouldn't usually keep the catch. He would just as soon release it, not really wanting to be a true fisherman of sorts. Especially since he could always order fish from the supermarket.

He finally pulled the whole load with a heavy thud, when he look at the catch, he gasped, not believing what he was seeing. It..was a woman...no...not a woman..one half was a pale skinned beauty, with braided blue hair, blue eyes and a face of sweet glamour...but..her other half..was a fin..a blue scaled fin...She..was a mermaid..

"Oh..my god!" was all Dane could say..

Orabelle's fear tripled as she caught the sight of a human. The way he gawked at her made her terribly uncomfortable. Her fingers tightened around the ropes. She had stopped wiggling, the more she did, the more uncomfortable the position she got in. Her eyes widened with horror as she stared at the man before her. She wouldn't be able to speak his tongue, not yet at least. She couldn't tell him to open the net let her go and keep quiet about her. She let out a tired breath. The net was really tight against her soft skin.

She winced slightly trying to pull her weight up with her hands so the ropes wouldn't hurt her further, there were already red markings on her sides. She kept her eyes set on him. Oddly enough he seemed attractive, tanned like he'd spent most of his days under the sun, well toned like he had worked outdoors. Sweat tickled down the side of his face a result of the exerting so much energy to pull her and the fish up. She could stare at him all day, only she learned humans were brutal, and quite vicious. Predatory. And that scared her. Much like jelly fish, beautiful to watch, but deadly to touch. Still curiosity was ever her problem, what were humans really like? Could they be exactly like her people say. She glanced around at the boat. She had never set foot on dry land. Not yet at least, it was part of her lesson once they arrived to the island. She skimmed the entire place before returning her gaze at him. Her pupils seemed to change in size, as if not used to the brightness. Her eyes altering between aqua blue, to sapphire, much like ocean waves, trying to find the best color that would keep her eyes protected, and her sight unmarred.

Dane gulped, not sure if he was dreaming or awake. He never thought mermaids were real, let alone meeting one like this. But he snapped from his gaze and saw she was very nervous right now. "OH I'm so sorry..let me help you." Dane quickly went to the scared mermaid and released her from the net, careful not to strangle her. "Seeing she was now free from the net, Dane check to see if she was hurt anywhere. "Are you OK?..I'm so sorry about that.." Dane said genuinely.

Orabelle kept her shifting eyes intent on him. Still afraid, but calmed down a notch as he released the net. She could have jumped overboard now, but she was too curious for her own good. She spoke in we own tongue. The languge similar to semantic languages, but it had an odd ring to it. Her voice was melodic yet hoarse.

' are you alone?' She had asked but he probably wouldn't understand her. She kept her gaze on him. Humans were dangerous she was told. She dodged her was to the side, her tail moving slowly up and down, much like a languid cat. She moved her tail slightly where there was a small cut, purple-blue blood oozed out. Since she lived underwater oxygen was scarce, and without oxygen the blood goes blue. As he breathed air more and more the more violet her blood turned a it oozed out of the cut close to her fin. It stung but nothing too much.

She was still cautious as she moved her hands slighty to push strands of her hair to the back, bringing her braid over her shoulder. His tone seemed calm, almost cautious. Was e going to harm her. Best way to know was to stay still and jump overboard if need be. She could begin to understand him as he began to speak. She gave a gentle nod. Moving her tail slowly.

Dane didn't understand the words she was saying but seemed a bit calmer now. "Ok..I see you're OK...Oh no.you got a cut...hold on" Dane quickly rushed to the cabin on the boat and got the first aid kit. He brought out some alcohol wipes and bandage and started treating her wound as best as he could. After he put the bandage on, he smiled at the mermaid, showing he was not going to hurt her.

"Well...I suppose you have to be going now..." Dane frowned a bit, not wanting for the mermaid to go, but knew she wouldn't want to stay out here. "It's a good thing I'm alone here. Wouldn't want anyone else to notice you were around..."

Orabelle winced, and hissed, pulling her tail away when he applied the alcohol. She pulled her tail between her hands, and rubbed the area. The blood finally turned reddish. When he seemed frightened himself, and that he wanted to help, she pushed her tail to him. Her scales peeled off slightly, revealing more skin, almost feet like, her fins shedding off. toes poked out from fins. She gasped glancing down at the odd dryness she felt, but the shedding! She was having legs!!! She just stared dumbfounded.

She shook her head, this was unbelievable, she wasn't completely dry! How... She glanced at his hand, that thing he wiped her with, the thing that burned. It did this. A small creased formed between her brows. She glanced at her tail going dry, much like leaves, it was growing dark in color, shedding off her body, revealing cremey white skin. She blinked a few times, curiously, wiggling her toes. No way was she missing out on this opportunity. She shook her head at him, pulling her legs up to her chest. Then pushing them our again, her knees became more evident, as well as her ankles, and her thighs. She looked around for something to wipe away the shredded scales. She eyed him, hoping he would understand and help. She wiped her hips slightly, pushing off more. She then looked up at him hoping he got the idea.

Dane was shocked to see that the scales was slowly shedding away. He didn't know what to think. Was she getting sick?..It didn't seem that was. Now she was moving more oddly, rubbing the scales off more. Then he realized what she is trying to do. Dane got a spare towel and rubbed more of her drying tail. The mermaid seemed to smile, getting excited.

"Hehe..wow..you sure like this for some reason...well..at least you're not hurt" Dane commented.

Surely enough, there was a scrape stretching from her ankle up slightly almost a few inches in length. She shrugged slightly, and grabbed a side from the towel continuing to dry and remove much of the scales. She smiled slightly wiggling her toes again. This made her giggle. It was quite an odd sensation.

Feeling the legs become separate, she tugged them apart, shedding much of the scales. She trailed her hand slowly down her smooth leg. Quite in awe. She bit her bottom lip bending only one knee, quite excited at moving each one separately. Still confusing though. She glanced up at the sky, then at this man before her. She smiled slightly and attempted to stand only to stumble almost instantly. She gasped slightly rubbing her arm that she had fallen on. How do they stand so easily!!

HOw did they control these things? She glanced at her legs, bending her ankle a few times, rotating it, trying to stand again.

Dane was a bit amused at how she was trying to stand. He gently took her legs and helped her up slowly. "OK..just copy what I do" Dane slowly tapped her foot to the floor, slowly, then moved his right foot back. "Try and follow me now" Dane said, doing the same thing to his other foot.

She tried to stand, her legs felt weak, she stumbled almost instantly, grabbing on to his arms. She glanced up at him embarrassed, looking sheepish. She curled her fingers gently around his forearms, trying to adjust her feet, but her legs were too weak still. After all she had had a tail for the past 10 years. At age 13 like many of her people she got her fins. However, before that, she couldn't remember much, she just faintly recalled the island. and walking on the sand, but it was such a faint memory. She licked her lips again, and finally gained her motor memory, managing to take a few steps. Once she felt a little more stable, she let go of his forearms to take a few weak steps.

She grinned wide once she got it. Though her legs shook slightly, indication of the weak muscles, but that was okay, wouldn't be long before she got the hand of it. She gave him a soft smile that said 'thank you'.

She glanced down at her feet, toes. How did she not realize how amusing feet were? She glanced back at her captor. She was quite thirsty too.

"Umm..hehe..I'm glad you're walking now...So..Do you want to leave?..or..maybe..umm.." Dane lost his track of thought as he came closer to the mermaid, now with her own pair of legs. He touched her face gently, not wanting to scare her. She was so gorgeous, form her preety face, to her ample bust and glorious legs that she had just gotten. He wanted so much to kiss her, but stopped himself before he scared her off.

"So..Umm..Anything else you need? Or..Would you like to come with me?" Dane said hoping she would want to live with him.

Orabelle's cheeks flushed with color, her eyes glowed slightly with excitement. She caught his hand and nodded rapidly. She glanced at the water the waves, the sun falling along the sky, not quite sunset yet. She then glanced back at him dodging her head to the side.

Where did he live?

She walked around him studying him top to bottom. He smelled nice too. Scent was something very tiring under water, and best left alone, but here in the open air, there were lots of scents she enjoyed. Primarily being that odd tinted scent this man held. Perhaps spices? Herbs? Green apple with pine needle? She knew those from her brief time on the island. Even though long ago, she still recalled a few things. Like how delicious berries were, and apples! Oh them apples. Not to mention all kinds of juices! She poked his back curiously, she had never touched a man before. Even in her clan, it was forbidden, until one is ready to mate, then they would be sent to the island where they would find their mate.

She blinked a few times, she wrinkled her nose, slightly blinking a few times almost stumbling again, before regaining balance.

Belle's eyes were shocked when they landed on his face with his fingers gingerly trailing along her cheek. She blinked a few times bringing her own hand to his face. Prickly, she liked that, she continued to caress his cheek, loving the sensation against her palm, and fingers.

Dane smiled as the mermaid touched his cheek. He decided to return the act and petted her cheek. He smiled, liking how soft it was. Her beautiful changing eyes was so mesmerizing that he just could pull out from. He leaned in her pink lips and kissed it. Softly at first then a bit more passionately. He wondered if he liked it as much as he did.

Orabelle stood still as chills rose along her skin. She didn't know what that was. Or why it made her body heat up. She blinked a few times watching his face. The sensation was so peaceful, until he pushed her a little. She didn't know how to respond, or what that was. She pulled her lips away. Already curious about the odd feelings that drove out.

She licked her lips, catching a taste of him. She glanced back at the ocean, then at him. She swallowed hard. Was it some kind of peace symbol? An act of peace? What else could it be?

She looked down at her feet, then up at him. "s-stay.." she mouthed the word carefully, almost uncertainly. Her instincts told her it was the right word though. So she said it.

Dane smiled and kissed her on the cheek, glad that she was going to stay with him. As he was sailing back to his mansion, he got a towel to wrap the mermaid's body with so she wouldn't get cold. He knew she was nervous, but he was confident that she will like being with him soon. If not then he would have to let her go. NO point in keeping a beautiful creature so miserable.

"Are you sure, you want to stay?...You can go back to the sea if you want" Dane made sure.

Orabelle nodded. She blinked at the towel and held it around her, adjusting it so she wouldn't have to hold it up.

She smiled and looked around walking cautiously to the edge of the boat. Looking at the water and as the air ruffles her hair she close her eyes and let the air ease her tension. She loved wind even as a child.

"Stay." She repeated to him. Just to assure. She looked around. "Not home." She pointed at the water. That she didn't want to go. Not yet.

Dane nodded, understanding her. He soon reached his mansion, docking his boat at his own harbor. He took the mermaid's hand and lead her out, walking her to the front door.

"Tell me...what is your name" Dane asked, assuming she could now talk a bit for some reason. Perhaps she was just shy before?

Orabelle blinked almost stumbling, this made her grip his arm to keep from falling, she let out a 'whoa' sound, then let out a relieved breath when her feet seemed to know what to do.

She glanced at him curiously, trying to translate his words. "Orabelle." She spoke calmly, "what is your name?" she repeated his words with his tone, save her accent danced with the words.

"My name is Dane. You're speaking so well now..how is that you are so good at speaking now, but you were so quiet at first..though I am sorry for pulling you out at sea without knowing" Dane said, feeling regretful.

Blinking a few times, Belle rubbed her head. He was talking too fast for her, and she hadn't gotten all the words in just yet. She shook her head at him. Not quite understanding everything.

She let out a breath, it felt quite new to have air in her lungs again. She turned her head to glance at the ocean, why did she feel like she had forgotten something?

A little worry twinkled in the back of her mind, if her people go searching for her, then again, she was quite the rebellious one, they probably guessed that she 'ran away'.
She turned her gaze back to the man, "Dane." She repeated testing the syllables on her tongue.

Dane turned to her as they enter the mansion. The living room was quite spacious and there was a big couch and some other expensive furniture that told of Dane's large fortunes. There was also a spiral stairs leading to the bedrooms. "Yes..that is my name...So...do you want to see my pool?" Dane asked.

Orabelle blinked a few times, looking around the huge place. It was quite chilly inside too. Goosebumps rose over her arms, as she shuddered slightly studying the marble tiles. Cod against her feet.

She wrinkled her nose slightly at an odd scent, probably leather, and wood too. She looked around then at Dane again. "Pool?" she asked dodging her head to the side.

Dane took Orabelle's hand and lead her to the indoor pool next to the living room. It was a square chlorine-free pool, sparking blue and clear. It had a mini pool close by for more relaxing rather than swimming. He only uses it so to relax but now it seems to have more of a use.

"It's a pool..to swim in...do you like it?" Dane said to her.
