RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

Catherine sighed and shook her head. Men were so infuriating at times. "Okay boys settled down. Before you fly off the handle there are another pair of pilots on this base. Someone is looking for them now which you would know had you simply asked. As for why neither of you have co-pilots its because I have yet to approve anyone in the training program able to actually pilot a Jaeger." She glared at them both.

The commander spoke up suddenly. "The only pilot in this room that does not have a Jaeger already assigned to them is Catherine and she is not available for active duty." The commander stated indicating her.

She turned a hateful look on her superior and thought to herself. 'Oh why not just tell the whole damned world'. Outwardly she remained silent, her cheeks burned with embarrassment. She had no intention of sharing that information with either of these two.

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

"Goddamn." He buried his face in his hands for a second.

Jake walked to the back of the room, grabbed a chair, and sat down, not caring anymore. If Canuck came back hurt, there'd be hell to pay. And his sister too. Cause... yeah. He didn't understand why he suddenly took a liking to this guy, he'd never met him or even heard of him before. I guess... he reminded him somewhat of John when he was a kid. John never talked to people and stuck to talking with his family. Hm.

Jake sat down on the chair, hoping that they would come back unharmed. He still needed to know what guys did for fun around here. So he hunkered down, pushed his sunglasses up, and watched a nearby screen to see how the Canuck was doing.

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

Oliver having no reaction at all, he would simply turn around and focus on the computer screen mumbling something to himself and having absolutely no care for what was going on around him.

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

Catherine could have slapped the pair of them. There was no way in hell either of them would consent to work with the other. One would have to sacrifice piloting their own Jaeger and she knew from dealing with pilots over the years that was incredibly unlikely to happen. The giant mechs were an extension of the person. Piloting one that belonged to someone else was just...weird.

She was surprised at the genuine concern the guy with sunglasses seemed to have for Matt and Lex. She hadn't expected that. The other pilot seemed very quiet and kind of an introvert to some extent. She was curious to know why this base would recruit two Jaegers with only one pilot for each unless they were planning something she was unaware of.

The commander came and stood beside her. "No luck finding compatible students yet." He asked. She gave him a flat look that most definitely said 'eff off' but she answered his question. "None of those useless newbs should ever be allowed near an actual Jaeger. Their scores in the sim are awful, they can't get along with each other and they have no respect for the pilots, Jaeger's or the program." She turned her eyes back to the screen and ignored him. Superior or not she wanted to punch him in the face.

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

Jake reached into his jacket, took a toothpick out from his jacket, and placed it between his lips, chewing on it. He wanted to smoke. But he was done with that. He's a Jaeger Pilot, he needs to act like one and live the lifestyle of one. As much as he hated it, he needed to be nice. Fuck. He hated being nice.

Jake walked out of his chair and stood next to the man named Oliver. He put out his hand for a shake. "'Ello, I'm Jake. Jake McEwen. We got off on the wrong foot."

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

Catherine rolled her eyes from where she stood. They were both behind her, the one named Jake was attempting to improve things a little. She had to give him a bit of credit for that. She did her best to ignore them both for the time being. She couldn't help but wonder what had happened to the Croshaw twins.

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

Jake nods at him, putting his hand into his pocket. "So what Jaeger do you pilot? I, myself, pilot The Spartan Wulf."

Jake looked at the monitor again. Nothing yet. Although he had a twinge of a sick feeling. Razorhands looked tough. Tougher than any Kaiju he's seen so far. He closed his eyes behind his sunglasses and continued watching the monitor, waiting for a response. He turned to the girl who had called him Hot Shot earlier. She wasn't looking at them or was even in their general vicinity. Fine. If she wants to be like that, she may.

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

"Lighting Green, American, Mark 3". He look at Jake even more suspicious
than before and would wonder we he was acting so nice. he'd look to the monitor
to see if the Kaiju was spotted.

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

Lex and Matthew had arrived atbthe san diego coastline. The Anti Kaiju wall was built and armed but it would put up much of a fight against RazorClaw. It would last maybe 30 to 40 minutes at most. The kaiju was about 60 miles off the coast and coming fast. The helicopters released their cords and the giant metal titan dropped to the ocean. The water only reached the knees of Delta because they were close to the shore.
"Command, we have reached the wall and weapons are armed." Lex reported. Matthew stayed quiet and focused on the incoming Kaiju.

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

*had to make a post the first chance i got. be back soon*

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

Jake walked over to the command station, smiling happily at the commander who was about to as well. He leaned down. "All right, Canuck. Make contact and engage the Kaiju."

He backed off with a smirk and the commander grumbled, walking back to the girl. "I think we're going to have a problem with this new pilot, Catherine."

Jake registered what he had said, just barely. He thought back to his brother who used to send him messages and pictures about his girlfriend, Catherine. He walked over to the girl, analyzing her. She was that girl. The same one from the pictures. He nearly moved the commander out of the way.

"Catherine? By any chance... did you know my brother, John?"

RE: Pacific Rim: Two Front War

With orders to engage the Delta Canuck moved forward because they needed to make contact away from the wall so it wont be damaged. The Ares siblings moved with perfect symmetry and easily mad there way through the ocean. After a few minutes of wading through the water a blip showed up on their radar and with their own eyes they could see the Kaiju approaching fast. The water now reached Delta's waist and the Kaiju slowly disappeared under the water about a mile away.
"Command, the Kaiju has submerged itself under the water and we lost it on radar", Lex yelled with a puzzled tone.
Matthew scoured the ocean ahead with his eyes trying to see any little sign of the Kaiju. It was astonishing how such a big creature could hide. "...Command, are you sure theres no one to back us up?" He tried to keep his tone confident but he started to doubt his own abilities. They had only done this once before and it was a Category 2 Kaiju, nothing compared to this Category 3. In fact he didnt understand why RazorHands wasnt a Category 4. The thing was huge!

"Roger that Delta we are currently prepping Artemis for deployment, continue scanning for the area until backup has arrived"
"Hurry, attach the heavy cannons to Artemis now!" cried one of the engineers. "Guess we will have to skip the formalities for now" Banagher turned to Alex "It seems that way, we'll properly introduce ourselves when we get back. But now we must assist our comrades." "Roger that Alex"

"ARTEMIS PRIME LAUNCHING!!!!"

"Delta Canuck do you read me? This is Artemis Prime, we are equipped with long range artillery firepower and are ready to assist under your command, we will reach your location soon".

Catherine gave a start of surprise when Jake approached her. The name that her threw at her almost made her jump. Of course she knew Jorhn, she knew John very well. John had been her co-pilot and her partner for several years before they fought a Kaiju off the coast of Ireland. He died there after ensuring she would live on without him. Several memories raced through her mind all at once...the last of which came out in softly spoken words. "I...didn't know John had a brother." She somehow felt hurt by this sudden knowledge. Why would John never tell her about this guy, she had met several members of the family she had even stayed with them in England during a holiday once and she did not recall seeing photos of Jake.

This was far too much emotion to deal with at the moment. "We can talk about this later, right now we have a battle to deal with." She said with an icy frown. She turned her attention back to the monitor struggling internally with her conflicting thoughts. Her face showed none of it however.

Matthew let out a sigh of relief because they wouldnt be alone for long. He tookmhis eyes off the ocean and looked to Lex. "Lex we'll have back up soon, hopefully bef-" Before he could finish his sentence a loud crash proceeded by a blood curtling roar blasted Delt Canuck forward knocking the towering giant down. Lex let out a screem as the Jaeger collapsed.
RazorHands rose from the water behind the downed Jaeger.
"Lex are you okay!?" Matthew shouted as he manged to start to return Delta to its feet.
"Yeah, im good..." Lex moved her left arm and a blade whipped out.
The jaeger rose and they now faced RazorHands face to face. Its large pendulum like hands raised into sky and came slamming down at the Delta Canuck but the pilots managed to grab each arm before the destructive hands could hit. They now were in a lock fighting for their lives.

Oliver had accidentally fallen asleep in the command center.
When he woke up, he would see that Artemis Prime had deployed and Delta Canuck was engaging the Kaiju. "Have I really missed that much ?". He'd continue to watch the monitor.

While in the power struggle a wrist blade on the Delta Canuck's left arm sprung out. It was known as the Plasma Scalder and it packed a mean punch. The blade could reach scalding hot temperatures making it easier to penetrate the thick skin of Kaiju. It wasn't heated up yet so all it could be used for was a blade. The siblings moved Delta's left arm quickly and RazorHands large pendulum like hand swang down narrowly missing the blue Jaeger. Its hand smashed into the water causing a large splash. With their left hand free the siblings moved to plunge the blade into the monster but when it made contact it barley entered RazorHands heavily armored shoulder.
It only infuriated the monster more causing it to thrash its arms around until it landed a blow with its right hand smashing into Deltas side throwing the Jaeger down.
"Lex we cant take another hit like that!" She agreed and the 2 tried to get up but before they could RazorHands tail came smashing down on them.

Catherine had been listening to Lex and Matt's struggle with the Kaiju. "Lex, Matt! Listen, if the monster is armored look for chinks in the armor. Places where the armor overlaps or may be weaker to allow for movement. Sometimes under the arm or near the hips." She explained through the mic. "You guys just need to hang on a bit longer. Artemis is almost there." She bit her finger, she couldn't help but be worried about the pair.

RazorHands heavy tail held the jaeger down under the water. Through the Con-Pod window everything under water seemed so peaceful compared to what lied at the surface.
"Command, we have major damage to the left leg and we aren't sure if we can hold the thing much longer." Lex spoke through her mic.

razorHands tail rose for a moment and the siblings used this to their advantage. On the chest plate of Delta opened up a large hatch. A cannon slowly protruded from the torso of the metal titan and a sonic wave blasted through the water and up at the Kaiju. Water exploded outward and RazorHands was thrown onto its back. The cannon retracted and Delta Canuck tried to get up with its damaged leg. They could stand but they couldnt walk very well so if they wanted to fight, RazorHands would have to come to them.

The dazed Kaiju slowly rose and roared as if it was furious. It charged quickly with its arms up ready to slice and smash Delta to pieces.
The siblings gave each other a look and nodded. There drift was strong, stronger than ever. Lex began to charge the Plasma Scalder as the monster approached. It got closer and closer but the weapon was still not charged. RazorHands swiped downward with its left hand but Matthew blocked with his right arm leaving an open shot for Lex. The weapon was charged and released heat. The blade was so hot it turned a bright orangeish color. Delta's left arm jabbed forward and hit right below the monsters right shoulder, a weak spot in the armor just like Catherine had said. As the blade entered the Kaiju's body the monster let out a painful yell. The blade burns the inside of the beast leaving a smell of burnt flesh in the air.
"It worked!" Lex yelled confidently. "It really worked!"

Jake turned away from Catherine. John... John's girlfriend. Jake remembered seeing a few pictures of her before they got into a fight over the phone and never spoke to each other again. That... that was one of the biggest mistakes of Jake's life. If he was able to talk to John one more time... he would have told him how much he loved him and how much he wanted him to be happy.

But that was not to be. Right now, all he could do is watch the battle on screen. And as they listened to Catherine's advice, he decided to offer his own little tidbit. He'd seen a Jaeger do this to a Kaiju once and it seemed to work. He walked up to the command console, pulled the mic over to him, and began talking.

"All right, you guys know how to grapple with a Kaiju, right? If you're able to, see if you can get a hold on him where you hook both of your arms under his and throw him bqck. It'll stun him enough so you can use your blade to finish the job."

"We'll try" Matthew didnt need to tell Lex what his next move was because she already knew, the sibling were perfectly in sync. Delta pulled its blade out ouf RazorHands and moved in for the move. Both of its arms wrapped around the beast like a bear hug squeezing it tight. Canuck began to lift the humongous beast but RazorHands had other plans. Its large jaw managed to crunchndown on Delta's right shoulder. The sound of metal crunching was followed by the lose of power in the right arm. Matthew let out a painful yell as the right arm of Delta Canuck became imobile. Lex looked to her brother worried their drift was beginning to get thrown off.

"Matthew you need to focus!" She yelled out to him but he didnt respond. It was like he couldnt hear her amd his paonful expression was frozen.

RazorHands dropped to its feet and proceded by doing the same thing the siblings were about to do. Its arms wrapped themselves around the paralyzed Jaeger and squeezed.
"Command, we can't hold it off any longer and Matthew is unresponsive!" She was scared but she knew she had to be brave, the city of San Diego and its residents were counting on them, the world was counting on them.
Lex took a deep breath,"...Command....you need to send Artemis Prime to the wall, dont worry about us...Artemis needs to be the last line of defense." She looked to her brother who was still unresponsive. She thought maybe this was just to much for a 17 year old to handle.

Catherine looked at Jake horrified when he told them to attempt a throw like that. They were two inexperienced for that. Before she could get the words out Lex and Matt moved into position. A horrible screech of metal ripped through the speakers and one of the twins screamed. "LEX! MATT!" She called through. Lex told them to send Artemis to the wall. She sounded defeated already. "Lex listen, you will be fine. How's your brother."

A technician was already assessing his physical damage and relayed it to her. "Matt." She called. "Matt you promised we would talk more later...we all have to go swimming together." She was quiet for a moment. Everyone in the command was. "Matthew, Lexi needs you."

Matthew's eyes fluttered open to see snow. He was no longer piloting the Jaeger but in the middle of a snowy field. The cold air was soothing, the snow soft, and the world was white to him. He felt at home and he wanted to stay in this place. The sky was beautiful with its many colors and the moon...larger than he had ever seen it before. 'Am I in heaven' he thought, for this was how he imagined it. In the back of his mind if he ever died this is how he would like it to be, but...Lexi he thought. "Matthew!! wake up!" A voice rang from the sky sending chills down his spine. He was confused because it sounded like Lexi but she was nowhere in sight. "Lexi! Where are you!" He screamed back feeling helpless.
"Matthew, Lexi needs you!"
That's when it hit him. 'Im coming!' He looked around for some way out but he couldn't find one. He wanted out but he was trapped in his own mind fighting for a way out.

Lexi was beginning to give up. Delta was being crushed and she was helpless. She cold have always ejected but she couldn't leave Matthew. Lex collected herself and calmed down, she needed to be a ranger not some kid, she was an adult and she wasnt going to just lay down and let her and her younger brother die. "Matthew you idiot! Wake up"

His eyes slowly opened and regained consciousness. His mind instantly focused on the Kaiju crushing Delta. "Lex I cant move my arm so your going to need to get us free using the sonic shotgun."

Lex smiled a bit and nodded. The chest opened and the cannon blasted a wave of sound, separating the Kaiju from them.

But RazorHands wouldn't stay dazed for long and they needed back up if they wanted to survive.

Jake cursed. He suggested a simple throw, but the Delta wasn't able to get it done. Shit. He should have thought of that. Throws and grapples are complicated to new recruits. We don't know where the hell Artemis Prime is. He thinks if any of us tried to pilot a Jaeger by ourselves, it.. it would be disastrous, but really, what choice do they have? Jake walked up to the Commander.

"Of the trainees you've reviewed, who showed the most promise? Are they still on base?" The commander looked at him as if he's crazy. "Delta Canuck will not survive this battle, Artemis Prime is going to the location, but we don't know if they encountered a problem, or got lost, or some other problem. We need someone who can get there quickly and take the brunt of the blows while they finish him off,"

The commander nearly snarled at him. "You won't be able to fight! The drift needs to be with someone you can bond with to be able to be in fighting condition. If you went alone... you understand what you'd be doing? What you will do?"

Jake sighed. "I know what I can do, Commander. I can get hit and fall. Anyone can fall."

The Commander stayed silent for a moment, thinking up a plan.

"It won't work, McEwen. If you don't die, you'll be disabled in some way."

"Does it matter?"

"The Spartan Wulf needs its pilot, McEwen. No. I can't let you do that."

Jake snarls and walks away, furious at his inability to do anything.
