Genevieve Aurora Persephone Elizabeth Hawkreach sat in her room, looking out over the kingdom. Her kingdom. The beautiful province of Solitude, hidden away high in the North Mountains, protected by it's stone walls and flowing rivers. Unparalleled in beauty and riches. Ruled by the just and fair King William James Thomas Alexander Hawkreach III and his fair and beautiful wife Aurora Persephone Elizabeth Hawkreach; Genevieve's namesake. All of the country envied the prosperity of Solitude and the wealth of gems and gold mined within the mountains that they had built their kingdom into. In fact, Solitude was envied so much that invasion and destruction were a common threat. If not for the position of the kingdom, and the large and well trained army, Solitude would have fallen many years ago. Genevieve counted herself lucky that her father was such a wise ruler.
However, in order to keep the peace, King William had promised her to the Prince of Dawnstar; Prince Julian Henry Rosewood. Genevieve had been only eight when her father made the decision, and now, as she approached sixteen, marriage became a more real subject at the dinner table. On her birthday, Dawnstar residents would make the treacherous travel to Solitude, and the wedding would be held. Only a month away. King William was positive that this would end the strife between the two provinces, and reign a new era of peace across the land. He was idealistic, but positive that it would work. Genevieve however, had her doubts. But she held her tongue, as it was unladylike for a Princess to voice her doubts to her father. Her younger sister and older brother were prime examples off how royals should act, so she bit her tongue, gave a curtsy and followed it with an 'of course Father'.
But now, as she sat in her room, she regretted her complacency. She wondered what her life would be like if she was born into a Village family, raised on bread and water, with no expectations on her shoulders. Free to love whomever she wished, free to follow whatever path she wanted. Free to live in Solitude for the rest of her life, or visit the other provinces at will. Free from duties and burden. It seemed so easy.
