David Harris was finally free. All his life, he'd been shadowed by his mother's agents. They followed him at a distance when he hung out with his friends, waited for him when he stepped out of school, and chaparoned him on dates. They tried to be as discrete as possible, but the mere knowlege they were there was enough to unnerve David. But finally, he was free. He'd just been accepted into Columbia University, where he could finally have 4 years to just goof off and do all the things his mother would have cringed about, if she ever found out. And dear old mom had unwittingly played right into his hands. No dorms for her little boy: it was a penthouse in Lower Manhattan for him, with a shiny, new sports car from graduation to get around in. Already, he could see himself cruising around New York, impressing the ladies, throwing parties, and bull-shitting his way to a business management degree. Perhaps he could weedle use of the private jet from his mother, and take his friends and girlfriends on expensive weekend trips. Yet whatever he did, one thing was for certain: no more shadows. He was on his own at last.

Such was his attitude as he pulled his car up the driveway to the steps of the mansion where he'd grown up in. He left his car outside - the chauffer could take it to the garage later. As he headed up the steps to the main entrance, he noticed another car pulling through the gate and rolling up the drive. He shrugged it off. His mother's underlings were always coming and going: company executives, lawyers, her lobby representatives, even Congressmen. He really didn't pay much attention. He could worry about managing his mother's - and grandfather's - business empire later. Much later. He was only 18, and he was determined to enjoy the best years of his life.
