Valerie was going to be celebrating her thirtieth birthday alone because most of her family was out of town, she'd been married but her husband died of a sudden heart attack leaving her by herself with no kids. It'd been three years, she knew it was time she moved on so she was going out. Valerie finished getting ready, of course she was dressed fit to kill in her red cocktail dress matching pumps ruby ear rings the whole shebang. Her shoulder length dark brown hair fell along her shoulders in curls, the club she was going to was just across the street which was nice. She put her phone in her purse made sure she had her keys then locked the door once she was outside, walked across the street.

The brunette showed the bouncer her identification, walked in heading straight to the bar. She would have sat at a booth or a table but it was rather cliche to sit alone at a booth or table besides she was sure people would stare at her, she gave the bartender her order then waited patiently. Valerie scanned the crowd, noticed a cute young man sitting with his friends knowing he was much younger then her she just shrugged then turned back to the bar as she waited for her drink to be given to her.

Kevin had finally finished his exams. He'd spent a month without leaving the house for any reason other than sports and now he was finally free. Not only that but he was also pretty sure he'd passed all of them with an excellent grade. He wasn't usually one to spend so much time studying but whether or not he got into University all depended on the grades he got in these exams. Kevin wore a simple pair of jeans accompanied by a black, striped shirt. He left the house and headed to the club where he was supposed to meet his friends.

Kevin showed the bouncer his ID, now quite used to this since he turned 18 and headed over to the table where the rest of his friends were sitting. After sitting down with them and having a chat, Kevin decided to go for a drink. It had been a while since he last tasted any alcohol and thought he'd start with something strong. Kevin approached the bar, finding a spot next to a woman in a red dress showing her very sexy body. Kevin asked the bartender for a tequila shot and a mix of vodka & redbull.

Valerie stirred, sipped her drink glancing up when she saw the young man walk toward the bar. She smiled at him, returned to her drink frowning at what he had ordered because when she was his age those kids of drinks didn't exist. Sipping her drink she gave him the once over then smiled once again, admired that for someone so young he was very good looking she had no complaints. Of course she knew it would be frowned upon if she dated him since he was just so young but she didn't really care she was just sick of being alone, waking up in an empty bed. There wasn't a real big age differences between them so it wouldn't be to bad if she went out on a few dates with him, things happened. She was still young enough to have kids, then their was the maturity factor on weather he was mature enough to handle parenthood so young.

Kevin smiled back at the woman as he waited for his order. He wasn't used to speaking to women, let alone older women. He had always focused on sports and his studies and therefore didn't have much time to socialise and meet girls. He wasn't really a big drinker either but he just felt that tonight he had to do it, he had to drink and forget the stress he'd been through lately, he wanted to have fun. Kevin looked at the woman once more and decided to introduce himself. He stuck his hand out as a smile covered his face.. "Hi, I'm Kevin.." He said shyly, looking her straight in the eyes. She was clearly older than him but she was very attractive, not that he had any thought of there being anything between them..

'' It's nice to meet you Kevin. You can call me Valerie.'' She said as she placed a strand of hair behind her ear, sipped her drink she looked him over, smiled because well for someone only of eighteen she assumed he was very adorable. Valerie was attracted to younger men, her husband had actually be the same age she was when he died. She bit her lip casually as she twirled a strand of her hair, stirred her drink with the straw she was amazed he had even said hello to her. Val hadn't really had a chance to date anyone since her husband had passed because well she just didn't leave the house very often, since it was her birthday she wanted to celebrate with a bang even if she didn't plan on getting wasted she would at least get buzzed.

Kevin looked at the woman, she was incredibly attractive. He swallowed hard, thinking of something to say not to seem sour and quite frankly, to have something other than the meaningless chat he was having with his friends. "Are you here with friends? You don't seem very happy.." He said with a quizzical expression. As soon as the words came out he regretted them, not only did he say she was unhappy but she might have thought he was trying to flirt with her. As he asked the question his drinks finally arrived and he paid the bartender while waiting for the woman's response..

'' All my friends are away on vacations, my family parents siblings etc are all out of town. It's my birthday, I didn't wanna stay at home moping around.'' Valerie said as she bit her lip, sipped her drink she was almost done with it, she could drink at least four of the same thing before she felt any side effects. She wasn't a heavy drinker, when she did drink she normally dialed it down after four cause more then that she was bound to do something she would regret later. Finishing her drink she ordered another one then waited patiently for it as she tried her darnedest not to flirt with him to much since he was so young.

Kevin listened as the woman easily opened up to him, he hadn't really expected it but it was good that she did, she obviously needed it. "Oh, I see...I'm so sorry.. If it helps, I wish you a very happy birthday!" He smiled at her sweetly, trying to make her feel better. "You're welcome to join me and my friends if you wish, I mean, maybe you don't really want to, I guess you don't, but if you do.." He felt himself just rambling on and on, his nerves apparently quite clear in his sentence structure. Kevin quickly downed the shot and looked back a Valerie, waiting for an answer, feeling like he just messed up..

" Thats quite alright thank you for the offer though. " Valerie said as she place a strand of dark brown hair behind her ear, smiled. " Go enjoy yourself I'll be fine." She said stirring her second drink which was the same thing she had ordered to begin with, since she hadn't really eaten much she was drinking on an empty stomach which wasn't such a good thing. This time she would stop at three because anymore, she would regret it later when she was puking her guts out or stumbling to walk straight.

It was the first time he'd spoken like this to an older woman, specially such a beautiful one, his hands were quite sweaty from the nerves but the alcohol seemed to be working and getting rid of that filter which always inhibited him. "I can't just leave a beautiful woman alone on her birthday.. That wouldn't seem right!" He gave her a soft smile. He wasn't really flirting with her, that was just his nature, he didn't like to see people feeling bad..

'' I'm thirty big deal.. Your young go have some fun, I'll be here when you get back.'' Valerie said as she smiled at him, turned her attention back to her drink as she took a few sips then stirred it. She was already starting to feel a buzz, didn't really know if she would be able to handle a third one once she was done with the second round. The brunette didn't want to ruin the young man's night by making him think she felt sorry for herself sure she felt bad she was celebrating alone but he was at the club with his friends, she wanted him to have fun instead of neglecting his friends to keep her company it made her feel a little worse to think he was so kind to her but he deserved to enjoy his evening. Besides after a few drinks she was headed home, planned on sleeping off her buzz then waking up the next day either laying next to somebody or alone like she had since her husband had passed.

Kevin did as the woman said. He left. However, although he didn't tell her, he'd be back briefly. Kevin walked over to his friends. They asked where he'd been and he told them. He told them how he'd come across his aunty and she wasn't feeling to well and he'd decided he'd help her out and he had to leave once more. He sad goodbye to them and the girls who had now joined in and made his way back to the woman. "Hello there... Hope you didn't miss me too much.." He joked.

'' Well I didn't expect you to come back over here.. Why do you wanna hang around someone like me? '' Valerie asked as she stirred his drink she really wanted why he wanted to hang around someone as old as she was not that she was that old but she was old enough, she felt bad that he had left his friends to keep her company. She had to admit he was cute, she always found herself attracted to younger men but she was afraid the same thing would happen again. The brunette was afraid to let someone in, lose them again there for the fact that she was afraid she would be left alone all over again.

"Well, I do tend to have a habit of surprising people like that.. So, expect the unexpected.." He smiled at her as he took in her next words. She raised a good point, why did he want to be there? Why was he even bothering in talking to this woman whom he'd never met and keeping her company. He shrugged. "Well, why not? It's your birthday so you shouldn't be alone for starters, also, you seem like fun.." And she was beautiful, that too.. But of course, he wouldn't say that..

'' I'm sorry I forgot my manners. My name is Valerie, well I didn't catch yours either. I assume your quite young by the looks of it.'' Valerie said as she placed a strand of hair behind her ear, sipped her drink. She didn't want him to get to close because she was afraid he would leave if she let him get to close, she was so used to losing people that it wasn't funny. The brunette hadn't had a boyfriend since her husband died because she was afraid of letting someone in, then losing them again she was also afraid of rejection.

(Sorry for the late reply, been having problems lately and haven't been able to reply sooner..)

"Oh, you're right. Sorry. My name's Kevin. Nice to meet you Valerie. Well, who knows.. Age isn't really important anyway." He gave her another of his sweet smiles, his honest innocent face looking straight at hers. "So how come you're on your own on your birthday.. You should be surrounded by people, by family.. Your partner..." He hesitated as he mentioned this, noticing if she was on her own this probably had something to do with it..

(( Sorry for the late reply. I took a personal hiatus but I'm back now.))

'' My family went out of town, I lost my partner three years ago. I'm a widow..'' Valerie said as she chewed on her lip, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. Her husband had been a little older then her, that's part of why she'd lost him. She was twenty seven when she married, he was in his early forties already but told her he would never leave her then he had a massive heart attack. Part of her was still mourning but another part of her knew she needed to move on, live her life to the fullest. She was still young, there was plenty of time for her to have children so she just focused on celebrating.
