"Sunrise has never been this good"

An enthusiastic Brian said to himself as he stroll across campus. It's been awhile since he step foot on one actually. He has to quit school due to financial reasons but scholarship saved him and his future. At 6'0" with a rugged built(thanks in part to the days spent working at the shipyard) and some in born talent in football, he is one of those guys that a school would consider a "one in a million prospect"

As happy as he was to have this chance in life, it does'nt really show in the manner he carries himself. He is quite shy actually. Maybe because he is an 18 year old freshman? Poor social skills? Who knows? Walking in a place filled with new faces is quite exciting and dreadful at the same time. That is, while passing through the gates, he saw "her"

Eve stood with her group of friends deciding that they should put a stop to the new group of Goths that were giving them a bad name. Since freshman year they had been the average deep and thoughtful group who mainly kept to themselves and their drama club’s activities. Eve was different though, she was social and fairly popular with everyone she met. Despite her tripp bondage pants and tight corset tops she fit in personality wise with nearly everyone at the school.
Eve was rather oblivious to the gaze of a new freshman because she was used to being stared at. Her dyed black hair with it’s pink highlights got the negative attention but her crystal blue eyes always got a second glance that made her tiny frame draw more positive attention. Her hair was waist length and covered the tops of her arms from the growing September chill, but her small stature was never helpful this time of year. Thankfully one of her dearest friends was a football star and offered her his varsity jacket when he saw her standing outside with such little garb on. In exchange she promised to be in attendance at the first game that night to return the jacket to him.

"Fascinating" is all the startruck Brian could say. He just couldn't keep his eyes off of her. Her blue eyes, her smile, the way she walks around with those pants and the varsity jacket, and the fact that she has a lot of "fans" taking glances on her made him feel a little "different" than usual. He just stood there for quite some time, trying to analyze this beauty that he is seeing. Should he approach her? Should he introduce himself? He suddenly became concious of what he looks like. He did inherited the muscularity of his Irish-American father but having an asian mother, his chinky brown eyes is something that most kids around him would make fun of while he was growing up. Wearing the pretty much generic looking white hoody and pants doesn't help either. Atleast he has this hat with a hot rod flame print that he is fond of.
"I should be in my varsity jacket. Stupid me" Thinking that it would help him attract her attention. He was thinking too much. Too much that he didn't realized that the bell already rang. His senses got slapped back to him, but he didn't realize that he was about to bump into the beautiful lady that he was just staring at.

“Oh sorry! I guess I was just kind of standing still. Are you alright?” Her melodic voice was a bit more soprano than one would have guess by looking at her. Despite her inquiry about his well being she was steadying herself against him. She looked up from her short angle at 5’2, “Are you new here?” She quirked a thin auburn eyebrow, it was obvious that the black was no her natural color but the brownish red that betrayed her was clear above her brilliant eyes. “I could help you find your class if you need me to since I was the speed bump to make you late.”
She was very pleasant with him just as she seemed to be with everyone else and once she was steady she removed her hand from him and adjusted her pants a little bit. She looked him over again still trying to figure him out he was too tall and his form too developed to be a freshman but she had not heard anything on the student council of a new senior at the school.

Her voice was like music to his ears. A serenade of some sorts. After asking him the question, he realized that she is waiting for a response from him. He needs to gather his thoughts. He needs to be casual. He is starting to get nervous. Then, suddenly, auto-pilot kicked in and instead of replying to her inquiry, he took off his hat revealing his short black hair. He kinda like a faux-hawk look but since it's back to school for him, he went for the neat look. He nodded a bit, looking down at the petite infront of him and extended his hand.

"Hi, I am Brian"

She took his hand with her own tiny delicate one. Her hand was cold from being outside so long but her hand shake itself was warm and friendly, “I am Eve. So did you need some help finding your class? I am sure my first class teacher won’t mind me being late. He wouldn’t even care if I skipped for that matter!” She laughed taking her hand back, “The guidance office is right up there if you still need to pick up your list of classes.”

She seemed aware of his current state of unease but she ignored it figuring it was new school nerves.

He was kinda suprised when she pulled her hand away. It doesn't mean that she's annoyed or anything, she's just being casual. Her smile gave that impression.
"Hi, my name is Brian. Sorry if I'm kinda lost in this crowd, I'm new to this school."
His mind is racing, he doesn't want to leave yet. He needs to see her again after this. Maybe later? Maybe tomorrow?
As he stares at her delicate figure, his eyes went down to her jacket.
"I already have my class list. Thanks."
A brief pause and then he said
"It looks like you're a fan of our team. Would you like to watch the practice later? I would really appreciate it if you could come. I barely know anyone yet"
It feels like an eternity waiting for her response.

She was thoughtful for a moment and then realized she was wearing the football jacket still, “Oh this? My friend Chad is on the team and he is a good guy I’m sure you two will hit it off.” She thought about shooting him down but she knew what it was like to feel alone at a school. Before she had moved here she was the lame awkward preteen that no one liked but now here she was at this high school far away from her middle school years and she owed the cosmos, “Sure Brian. The coach normally lets me sit on the bench when I hang out there so I will introduce you to everyone okay? Are you sure you don’t need help to your first class?”
She was not into the football players and his garb was not exactly her cup of tea but she could see potential under the white hoodie. She gave him the once over and sighed that some beautiful people were wasted on the more prep side of the world.

"That would be great. Ummmm... Yeah, sure, but you'll be late for your class if you accompany me?"
For him, she was like a goddess that everyone worshipped. It's pretty obvious that every single male is taking a glance at her while passing.

Random thoughts suddenly flooded his mind:

"Even the girls, which I'm pretty sure were kinda envious of the looks that she is getting. I on the other hand had my own experience with this kind of environment, but not to this extent. Maybe because I look different than most or maybe because I'm "big" but still. There is this gut feeling that I may just be one of those boys "around" her."

"I can't let it happen. I must stand out. I must try something to atleast grab her attention."

Before they realized it, the hallway is starting to get empty.

(Hey can we maintain third person? I write best in that tense. Thank you ^,^)
She gladly led him to his class and for the most part didn’t notice everyone watching her. When they arrived at the class she gave him an odd look, “Um not to be rude but why are you in a freshman class?” She peeked through the glass on the door and visibly compared him to the lanky and awkward looking freshman, “Well just so you know Mr. K is awesome so if you give him any trouble I will have to give you hell.” She gave him another warm smile, “I am just down the hall in room 209 so why don’t you stop there on your way to the next class and I will help you find that one too. See you later Brian.”
Eve walked away down the now empty hall and a while down the long hall could be seen entering the classroom without any hesitation.

"To make the long story short, Let's just say that we're probably the same age." He smiled at her. He stared at her with the same amusement as before for a couple of seconds before she interrupts him by saying that she's on her way to her room.
He tried to say something but it was too late, Eve just entered her classroom.

"See you later Brian" is something that got stuck into his head. He has high hopes.

As he entered the room, everyone was fascinated by this guy. He's big, well, compared to his classmates that is. As usual, he is quiet. He went through the norms of introducing himself, breezing through the class, and a couple of chit-chats from new people. The bell finally rang. "See you later Brian" is the only thing going through his head as he strolls down the hall to room 209.

Eve was the last one out of the class trying to juggle her books that she was walking and attempting to shove the uncooperative cooks into her messenger bag. She smiled at her escort and asked where he needed to go next. She was glad for the large man beside her in the hall ways because it always made it easier to get through the crowded halls once they reached his next class she pled her apologies, “I won’t be able to guide you to the next two periods but we do have the same lunch period and my locker is right outside of the cafeteria so I will wait for you there and you can sit with me and my friends. Granted you are going to stick out like a sore thumb with us but we can’t have you sitting by yourself. Off to French class with me. Good luck and I will see you at lunch! Oh and I pack lunch but if you have to buy I will go up with you, or better yet I can share because I always pack way more than I need because someone is always stealing it from me.” Again she hurried away towards the stairwell.

"It feels great to be your escort-slash-bodyguard." Brian delivered it in a jokingly manner but she didn't really noticed it because of all the books that she is trying to tame. He just smiled and followed her through the hall, his eyes focused on the path trying not to crash into something or someone. Still, the sideway glances can't be helped. It is during this moment with her that he got more amused. Yeah, she is beautiful but she is different. He is not really into the "goth" thing but there is something in her that just attracts him. He can't really pinpoint it at this time, but one thing is for sure, he is glued to her.
"It's ok" He said. "I'll be fine. I guess. About lunch, sure, I don't mind at all! It'll be great to meet new people" There is some truth to that statement, but really, it's only Eve that matters. "I do pack my own lunch too. What a coincidence. Alright, lunch then!" As she hurried towards the stairwall, he can't help but grab her attention again
"Oh by the way, tell me who that stealer is. Just kidding." A huge smile erupted afterwards.

She grinned at him and at that moment knew they were going to be great friends. Eve had never been known to date anyone at the school and often rumors spread about her and her football friends having short lived flings but all the truth behind that fizzled shortly after a rumor sparked.
As promised, after shoving her bag into the locker, Faith waited by her locker with an incredibly dorky hello kitty lunch box with a matching soup thermos. She swayed humming a little bit while she waited and despite the urging of her friends to hurry in she was a girl who kept her word.

Back in the classroom, everything was going smoothly. Brian is really getting more comfy with this so called "highschool life"
There are glances here and there. He can hear things like "Look at that meathead" or "He's probably one of those who has football for brains" Actually, not only is Brian good in athletics, he is pretty good in academics too. The chinky eyes might have given it away. Asians have been synonymous to math or science. That is a common stereotype.

He looked at the clock. The seconds seems to be so slow. He just can't wait for lunch. To her again, that beautiful petite from room 209.

After a few more agonizing minutes, the bell rang and off he goes to the meeting place.

She waved vigorously at him trying to get his attention and once she had she greeted him, “Hey glad to see you aren’t lost somewhere. Ok so in we go. Do you have your lunch handy?” She smiled leading the way to the table at the far end closest to the wall of windows. They all were sitting talking amongst themselves as Eve approached with the new addition. “Everyone this is Brian. Can you shift over one Dan so he can sit beside me?” Her friend agreed moving his lunch tray over and Faith sat down opening her lunch box and holding her arm up with an extra sandwich when the right tackle came pecking her on the cheek telling her how sweet she was. He sat at the table behind them with other football players and some girls. She smiled at Brian. “That would be the thief but now its more of an unspoken rule that I bring him lunch too because his mom sucks at packing lunches and he is always broke.”

"Oh is that so?" He said after Eve disclosed who the "thief" is. He tried to suppress a laughter. He is all smiles as he pulls out his rice and veggie combo. He noticed the glances and strange looks. He smiled, looked at Eve and whispered "Pre training carbs" He kept that sweet smile on his face as he spent lunch with these wonderful people. He got introduced to everyone. He feels good to blend in like this. An amazing and amusing experience to say the least. It's only been a few hours and a lot of good things had already happen since meeting Eve.

The players behind hime had been chatting for quite some time now. One of them said "Your girlfriend?" while pointing at Eve.
Almost automatically, Brian blushed. He actually froze for a couple of seconds. As he was about to reply, everyone at the football player's table was already laughing. "Bring her to practice later" Is the last thing that he said before he gathered his senses.

Almost automatically, Brian blushed. He actually froze for a couple of seconds. As he was about to reply, everyone at the football player's table was already laughing. "Bring her to practice later" Is the last thing that he said before he gathered his senses.

She laughed at the accusation, “I am already going! And you know I don’t date.” She glared at his rice and put half of her sandwich beside him, “You need to eat some protein Its chicken salad and I am told I make the best.” She bit into her half turning her attention back to the conversation. She poured half of her ice tea into the pink lid that served as a cup to the thermos and slid the rest of the insulated container to Brian, “Home made.” Then her attention was back to the conversation again. Her kindness was the obvious reason she was so popular aside from her beauty.

Brian looked back at them and said "Well, you heard her" With a smile, he looked down on the sandwich and he can't deny the fact that a trace of dissapointment struck him that moment. Still, it was too early to tell anyway. "It could be just her defense mechanism" He kept that thought to himself.

He thanked her for sharing her lunch with him and praised her for the quality of the home made iced tea. She is kind, she is beautiful, she is unique among others, and he just realized, at this rate, he might be falling for her.

While casually chatting with Eve and her friends, the thought and feelings lingered. "Is it too early to tell? Maybe" He kept that thought to himself.

Lunch is almost over and everyone is packing their things up. With his mind filled with random thoughts about Eve, he unwittingly dropped the lid. He bent over to grab it, not knowing that his cheek would brush into hers. It was like a jolt. He paused as he ended up staring at her eyes.

It was not often that Eve lost her cool and collected domineer but she paused her pale cheeks turning a slight shade of red. She broke eye contact when one of her friends cleared their throat, “Oh um thanks for the compliment. I have to head to choir now but um I guess I will see you at practice?” She paused but followed the feeling in her gut, “Um unless you wanted to walk me to class that is. You know so that we can meet up after and I can show you the field and everything.” She tucked a long pink strand behind her ear revealing the dangling red earrings that were hanging from her ear that attached to a chain that ended at a post through her upper ear.
She stood as she put everything together while waiting for him to respond.

Stuttering, he replied "Oh, sure, umm, yeah. It would be my pleasure to escort you to class" He paused for a bit and tried to gather himself. "And yes, after practice, nothing beats a nice stroll around the field" He looks at her "With someone as... nice... as you". He actually wanted to say the word "beautiful" but for some reason, he just can't push it out. He noticed her slight blushing. He actually thinks that she looks a bit cuter when she's like that.

The usual walk in the hall became much slower than before. They talked mostly about the "goth" stuff. Everyone pretty much know what football is but "goth"? That is new to him. He did said things about himself too, he silently wished that his words would somehow interest or amuse her. As for her being a member of the choir, he was impressed by this. He said to her that if schedule permits, he would watch her during choir practice, if that's ok with her. He's really not new to music so he can actually relate to her on that department.

Eve smiled and explained a bit about her view of it, “I guess it means different things to people to some it means being whiney and whatever while others use drugs but for me it is the romance of seeing beauty in the darkness.” She shrugged feeling a little silly admitting such a thing to a stranger, “And you know I meant that I would show you where the field was not spend time with you after practice.” She laughed and once they got to the door she turned to face him, “But I am having a party this Saturday if you want to come. And no way are you sitting in on choir it would be way embarrassing from me!” She gave him one last perfect white smile, “See you later Brian.”

He was amused with the way she explained things to him. He perfectly understood what she meant. He is not really new to this subculture of sorts. He is a fan of metal music himself. People just can't tell from the way he looks and the way he carries himself. He's not really into it because of the girls, the booze, the long hair, the rebel attitude, and the drugs. He's into it because as a musician himself, he got attracted to the intricate guitar riffs and solos that these artist could do. In a way, this motivates him. For him, it means that something, no matter how hard can be achieved.
As they arrived at the door, he said
"Saturday then. Sure, see you later Eve!"
The door closed. He looked at his watch and it's as if time got frozen.

Eve was not into metal by any stretch. She enjoyed music that tested vocal skill like opera and she envied the music Amy Lee provided the world despite how cliché and poser like it made her. She was given the task of taking point in the choir’s version of Lacrimosa and in this song the true large span of her range shined.
By the end of the class she was light hearted and a smile never left her lips as she waited outside the room for Brian as she hummed the song to herself. She had another period after this one but as she was simply a library page during that period she knew that she was going to be alright to leave the final class like the football team did on practice days. Football players for the varsity team always had homeroom at the end of the day just for that purpose.

"Finally." Said Brian as he walked towards Eve outside the room. It was a relief of some sorts. In a way, he kinda missed her even tho it's not that long since the last time he saw her. He paused as he tried to recall that melody that she is humming. "Mozart." He said with confidence. "My classical knowledge is not that vast but I know some standouts." He stood there with her, chatting with her, happy to be with her again. He was engrossed with their conversation that it took a nudge from Johnny, the team's punter, to tell him "It's time buddy"

With a smile and a big wave, Brian said to Eve "See you there!"

"The green grass of the field looks good. It's gonna be one heck of a practice day." He said to himself loudly.

Johnny looked at Eve then at Brian. It seems he sensed something too. He smiled at the thought.
