Mikhail was a part time worker in White Rock City, working for a bakery in the time he had off from his studies at college. Mikhail was the youngest of the workers here in the bakeries, most of them being elderly women. He stood about 5’7”, hated it, but it ran through his family. It didn’t help that on top of it he had bright blue eyes and messy brown hair that made him look like a child. He even had freckles which covered most of his face. Surprisingly he was 20 years old, going onto 21 soon and as much as he was encouraged to be excited to hit the big 2-1, he just couldn’t bring himself around to being happy. He just had a breakup and couldn’t feel settled---this was different for him, after all. It was his best friend. He had thought things were going to work out but it didn’t, and now Mikhail was left in the shadows, unsure why he felt so unsettled. They were friends for what seemed like forever, so why didn’t it work out? He stopped sweeping the floors of the bakery and took a moment to watch some of the other workers and customers. They were all happy as they should be; he wished he could be the same…

Mikhail let out a frustrated sigh and then finished his job and hung his work apron off. “I’m leaving,” he announced to the manager as he grabbed his messenger bag and walked out the door. As he stepped outside, he took a deep breath of the cool air. He had only one thing left to do today before he was free to go home. He headed towards the college campus to meet with his mentor as he always did. He ruffled through his pocket, pulling out a Tootsie pop and pulled the wrapper off, popping the lollipop into his mouth. Candy was probably Mikhail’s one source of comfort when he was depressed or upset. It made him feel a little better to taste the many flavors candy had and it reminded him of happier, childhood memories. If only he was as happy now as he was then. Mikhail approached his usual bus stop, sitting down on a bench while he waited. He took his phone out of his messenger bag, toying with it a little as he wondered what his friend was possibly doing now. Wondering if he was possibly having as bad as a day as he was?

It was a nice fall day in White Rock, and Jesse admired the sight of clear skies, little white fluffy clouds every so often. The sun beat down, but the temperature was no greater than 75 degrees. He enjoyed the fair weather White Rock experienced... never once had a major storm upset the town, and rightfully so, because not once had this small town upset the peace of the world. It was his hometown, and the home to his memories, dreams and ambitions. He smiled, walking down the street toward his car, which he parked a good way away from the store where he worked.

Jesse was an avid walker, jogger, and loved to stay fit. At 5' 9.5", he weighed 175lbs, a bit heavy, but it was all in his figure and tone. He was the attractive type, but he wasn't obsessed. He loved sweets, chocolate, and all sorts of food that some would say is too "greasy" or "Fattening". He didn't care, it just meant he had to work harder later, and he was fine with that. He'd have lots of time to work out now... life was changed forever. Not only had his grades slipped, but his mother had died suddenly of a cancer that she apparently had for decades without knowing.

He reached his car, and got in. The red BMW stuck out, but he didn't mind. He worked hard for this car, and it was something he was proud of. He looked in the mirror, and adjusted his blonde and brown hair, whipping it into position. His brown eyes glistened a bit, as he bit his lower lip, the image of his mom coming to his mind. He wiped a small tear, and started the car. It was time to go cram in some studying at the college, something he hardly ever had to do, and something he didn't like to do.

It didn’t take long for the bus to come and drop him off at his college. It wasn’t a far walk after all; it is just that Mikhail hated walking everywhere. He was still toying around with the phone, still wanting to talk. However, when he saw the time on the phone, he decided it was best not to. “He’s probably on his way here…” He said to himself, twirling the lollipop in his mouth and looking down at his phone before shoving it in his pocket. Maybe after he met with his mentor he could see him. It’s not like he wanted to avoid him completely all because they broke up. He wasn’t like that. As much as he was upset, he just couldn’t, and wouldn’t, stay away.

So Mikhail walked past a few of the college buildings before entering the main office building. There he saw his mentor sitting in the lounge. He said a small hello before sitting across from him to discuss some minor issues he was having with doing his homework with all the classes and work he had to do afterwards. Mikhail kept glancing out the window, hoping that maybe he’d see Jesse pass by or something on his way to class. He hadn’t kept in touch quite well since the break-up, but that was because he had been working more than ever and hence, the reason why he was here ignoring his mentor.

The tires screeched to a halt, his car slid into is stopped position. Jesse opened the door, climbing out, grabbing his backpack from the passenger seat. With the bag tossed over his shoulder, he walked toward the school. Life had been hard for the past few weeks... first he lost his mom, then, his best friend... his boyfriend, Mikhail. Life had been turned upside down, and he wasn't sure of what to expect next. He brushed past a few guys from the tennis team. "Hey Jess, ready for the game tomorrow?" He ignored them, nodding quickly and moving toward the main campus building.

Entering the building, he paused for a second, taking a deep breath... his body wrecked with emotional stress, fatigue, and lack of emotion. He felt depressed, but wasn't sure why... he missed his mother, but this was something more. He entered the lounge, and stopped cold in his tracks. His stomach churned, his face started to go pale. In his anger, his frustration, he had ended the one good thing in his life, the relationship he had with him... the boy sitting in the chair: Mikhail. There he sat, staring out the window facing the opposite direction from which Jesse entered.

Jesse's slender, yet toned body trembled a bit, cold sweat started to form on his palms, and quickly, he turned away... and too fast. His books fell to the ground as he snapped away from Mikhail, and tried to escape. He bent down and like the new kid at a school, he hurriedly packed his things into his bag again, trying not to take too much time or draw too much attention, but it was too late.

Hmm, maybe he isn’t coming to school today. At the thought, Mikhail frowned and slouched in the chair. He remembered that he was here to talk to his mentor and tried to listen to what he was saying but he couldn’t help but start to zone out at that point, feeling hurt and worried for his friend. Suddenly a loud sound jolted Mikhail back to reality and his head snapped around to see a guy hunched over, scurrying to pick up his books he had dropped. Out of good nature, Mikhail got up and walked over, bending down to pick up one of the books. “You dropped this,” Mikhail said, handing the man his book. That’s when he realized…

“J-Jesse?!” Mikhail practically shouted in surprised, backing up with the book held tight in his hands. He bent over to examine the man, just to make sure it wasn’t Mikhail’s mind screwing with him. It was Jesse; he did come to school today! Mikhail started to tremble a little, unsure of what to say in this awkward scenario. He looked down at his hand, realizing he still had a death grip on the book. “Ah…Um, here…” Mikhail held the book out for him, looking away. “I… I was wondering if you were coming today,” he mumbled, biting his lip nervously. As much as he wanted to see him, now that he was here, he wasn’t sure what to say or do. He scratched the back of his neck, letting out a nervous laugh. “I don’t remember you being so clumsy, Jesse…”
