She told Mathew that Jill said she was going to the high school.....she was meeting a friend there....but she also said she wouldn't be long. Mathew thanked Jill's mother then hung up the phone.....he returned to where Sam & Mike where sitting on the floor. Mathew told them what Jill's mother had said then he asked Mike to call Ben and have him send some patrol cars over to Hollywood High. Mathew leaned in placing a kiss against Samantha's forehead.....he told her that he would get Parker....one way or the other.

Mathew dashed out of the house heading for his car....Mike laid Samantha against the couch then went to the phone. He called the station and ordered Sergeant Warren to send some cars too Hollywood High and send some to Gary Parker's house. As he was talking on the phone the siren of the ambulance could be heard as it was getting closer to the house then it pulled up just as the crying tires of Mathew's car told everyone he was pulling out. After hanging up the phone Mike returned to Samantha's side then the two men from the ambulance came into the house with their stretcher.

Samantha watched Matt as the understanding of what she was saying dawned and only then did she feel that she could let it go - leave everything to her friends. She looked briefly at Mike as she lay against the crook of his arm and then she watched as Matt made the call, pulling the coat around her a little tighter. She could smell Mike's cologne on it and, together with the soft kiss that Matt placed on her forehead, she started to feel like she was safe. As she looked at Matt for a moment and then remembered one more thing.

"Be careful..." she said quietly. "He has a knife... it's erm... it's ...his ankle." She saw Matt nod and then he was gone. She was vaguely aware of Mike getting up and making the call and she had the strangest sensation of being lifted up. But it was getting harder and harder to stay awake and her body ached so. If she just closed her eyes for a moment... if the pounding in her head would just stop...

Everything was different. Strange. As she started to become aware of her surroundings, but before she had quite persuaded her eyes to open, Samantha worked out that she was lying down... in a bed she thought but it didn't feel like her bed... her linen. The room didnt smell like her room. There was a chemical smell rather than one of perfume. She tried to push her brain to work and kick her memory into gear as she moved to roll over. She immediately regretted both. As the dull pain wracked through her body, the events at Parker's home came back to her in an instant. She groaned loudly and forced her eyes to open. The room was bright but sterile. She was on her own, but there was a chair near to one side of the bed with a newspaper folded loosely on the seat and an overcoat draped over the back. She pushed herself up slowly onto her elbow first and then started to try and sit up. Maybe she could find someone to tell her what day it was, what happened to Matt, and when she could get out of here.

Jill reached the high school.....she didn't see Gary's car and thought that he was running late...she went to the front doors finding one was open. She slipped inside walking slowly as she looked around.....the halls of the school were dead quiet....it was like being inside a mausoleum. Jill moved slowly down the entrance way until she reached the main hall. There Jill turned heading towards the gym which sat at the end of this hallway. She stopped at a pair of open doors which lead inside the gym.....the lights were on.....Jill moved into the large room looking around. Jill didn't see anyone around but she was sure that Gary was already here since he had keys to get inside. A crossed the room was the doorway which lead the to boys locker room and Gary's office....Jill made her way acrossed the floor then opened the door to the locker room.

Mathew had just pulled up out front.....he jumped out of his car looking around but didn't see Jill or Gary around. He looked towards the school....Mathew hoped that he wasn't too late to save Jill's life. He ran up to the front pulling on each door until he found the one that was open....Mathew quickly slipped inside. Jill walked through the boys locker room......she still didn't see anyone around.....Jill was becoming frightened.....she started wondering if Gary had something else in mind then giving himself up. Suddenly Gary appeared from out of no where....he was holding the knife that he teased Samantha with in his right hand. " You told that fucking whore Samantha how to find me didn't you Jill!? " Gary said as he slowly closed in on Jill who was shaking....his voice had a crazy sound to it.....like he was going to snap any second. Jill was crying & begging that she didn't tell anyone.......but it was clear that Gary didn't believe her.....Jill started screaming for help which only made Gary laugh since he thought that no one was around who could help her.

Mathew heard the screams for help....he stopped for a moment to pick up where it was coming from then he headed down towards the gym. Gary slashed his knife at Jill....she tried to block the weapon but ended up getting a nasty cut along her arm. Jill fell backwards into an open locker....it looked bad for her.....she started to stand up then felt something near her hand.....it was a football helmet. Gary jammed the knife into Jill's shoulder just as she turned grabbing the helmet.....she then smacked Gary over his head.....he staggered backwards the bloody knife still in his hand then Jill knocked the knife away from Gary while he was stunned. She dropped the helmet and ran fro her life.....in seconds Jill was out of the locker room then ran straight into Mathew who was half way acrossed the gym floor.

Jill started screaming that Gary was inside and that he was trying to kill her....just then Gary stumbled out of the locker room. The two men starred at each other then the sound of sirens could be heard just outside of the school. " It's all over for you Parker! " Mathew snapped out as he pulled Jill behind him then Parker lunged at Mathew....the two men struggled for a moment then Mathew knocked Gary to the floor with one punch. " I'LL KILL THAT BITCH!!.......I'LL KILL ALL THOSE BITCHES!!! " Gary screamed out as he was glaring at Mathew then he rose to his feet with a sick smile on his face. " I fucked Samantha!......I fucked that nasty whore and she loved it!! " Gary said followed by a laugh then Mathew started beating the shit out him. Punches were hitting Gary's face & body......Mathew had broken Gary's nose with one punch then knocked some teeth out with another.

Gary feel to the floor....a broken....bloody heap.....Mathew turned towards Jill who's eye flew open wide....she pointed to Gary yelling that he had a gun. Mathew spun around to see that Gary was pulling out a small pistol from his pants pockets. Mathew kicked the gun from his hand then pulled out his colt 45. Seeing Mathew's weapon Gary started pleading that he was sick and needed help! Mathew knelt down....he grabbed Gary by his shirt then placed the barrel of his colt into Gary's mouth. It would only take less then a second to end all of this......one squeeze of the trigger would make sure that this monster would never hurt anyone ever again. Mathew's eyes seemed cold with no life to them as he starred down at Gary who's own eyes looked up at Mathew with great fear showing.

" MATHEW DON'T!! " A voice rang out through the gym...it was the voice of Sergeant Warren. Ben walked over to Mathew along with three police officers.....he knelt down placing a hand onto Mathew's shoulder. He knew that Mathew wanted to kill this man who hurt Samantha....but he couldn't let him....it was time for the law to take over. Mathew turned his head looking at Ben then nodded.....slowly Mathew slipped his pistol back into the shoulder holster....but before he stood up Mathew punched Gary one more time in the face knocking him out. " That was for Samantha! " Mathew growled as the officers took Gary into custody while another officer helped Jill out to a waiting ambulance.

Mathew & Ben walked out of the school together....Ben asked if Mathew would have killed Parker to which Mathew said next time stop of a donut then you'll get your answer. By the time Mathew reached the hospital Samantha was unconscious from her injuries so he waited with Mike in her room. The two then went for some coffee which was the same time that Samantha woke up. It wasn't long before they returned to her room....they saw that she was awake as they entered. Mathew moved around to the left side of her bed while Mike went to the right....they sat down on the sides with Sam in between them. " It's good too see those pretty eyes again.....I was wondering how long you would sleep. " Mathew said with a huge smile on his face......Mike also had a smile as he reached out taking Samantha's hand into his.

Samantha froze for a moment as she saw the door opening, but as she recognized the two men who walked through it, she smiled a little sheepishly and eased herself into a sitting position, wincing a little as she leaned back against the pillows. She watched as the two men walked across the room to her, flanking the bed and sitting themselves down. She stared at Matt. He looked ok... no cuts and bruises... no bullet holes obvious.

"You ok?" she asked quietly. He gave a simple nod in reply

"Jill?" Again a single nod.

"And Gary Parker is locked away at the station house... all nice and secure and ready for the gas chamber." Mike said as he took her hand. Samantha closed her eyes for a moment of silent thanks - that everyone was safe and that they had Parker in jail. Now she just had to hope that he would plead guilty and spare everyone - including her - the need for a trial. She really didnt relish the idea of having to testify as to what happened at Parker's house. She wanted to look that even away in a tiny room in her mind and throw away the key. She squeezed Mike's hand. She felt safe with both of them there and for a while there she wasn't sure that she was going to feel safe ever again. She opened her eyes and looked at Matt, then at Mike then back.

"OK... so before either of you start shouting at me... I know... I was stupid... and... Im sorry. I just thought..."

As Samantha started her apology both Mathew & Mike looked at each other.....they had no plans on shouting at her.....they were were proud of how she handled this case. Samantha had placed herself in danger.....but that was normal for a private eye in Los Angeles. How many times had Mathew been in this same place....or even Mike.....it was part of the job and there would always be other dangers to face. " No one is going to shout at you Sammy.......in fact we're proud of how brave you were. " Mike said as he gave Samantha's hand another squeeze. " Yep......you have truly become a private eye.....you put your body & life on the line to catch a killer.......but next time let someone know of your plans......it makes it easier to find you. " Mathew added then he leaned in placing a soft kiss against Samantha's cheek.

The book had been closed on the Case of the Innocent Murderer.....but there would always be more cases to challenge both Mathew & Samantha. In fact their most challenging case was only weeks away.....against a foe from their past who planned revenge by playing deadly games.


Elsewhere in the City..........

An unseen man sitting behind a desk was reading the evening newspaper. The lead story was all about how Mathew & Samantha took down the real killer of those students. " It seems that the Knight & the Bishop have scored another win.......but in my game they'll both loses. " The man said as he laid the paper down.....standing in front of his desk was another man......tall & powerfully built.....he stood with his hands behind his back. " Mr Rook........have you scouted all of the pawns we'll be using in my game of death? " The man asked. " Yes Mr. King.......all the pawns you've picked have been scouted out.......I know their every move.......I can pick them up when you're ready for them. " Mr. Rook replied too Mr. King. " Very good Mr. Rook.........The Knight & The Bishop will pay for what they did too me.......for what they did too my family.......they will pay for taking my son away from me........and I will enjoy watching them suffer during my deadly games. " Mr. King added as he pulled a dagger from his desk then dragged the razor sharp tip over the pictures of Mathew & Samantha on the front page.
