The man made his way through the dense foliage on all fours. His knuckles were calloused from the overuse. The soles of his feet were much the same. A mane of dark blonde hair matted to his head. He wore nothing. The jungle didn't require clothing. Suddenly, he threw his firm chest to the ground. His prey was caught in his pale green eyes. He pounced on the small mammal and killed it with his hands. After eating, he made his way home. He lived in the branches of a downed tree. His pallet was similar to the ones apes made for themselves, but he didn't consider himself an ape.

The man's parents were scientists who had traveled to study the apes. Rather than take their toddler son back with them, they abandoned him. He had no recollection of them. In fact, he hadn't even questioned why he was the only one of his species here in the jungle. Instead, he adapted. The apes had helped him for most of his life. When he grew taller than his surrogate father, they exiled him. He was too much of a threat to their young. He was brutally strong and had no idea how to control it. He had been on his own for nearly ten years, although he knew nothing of time. He only knew of survival.

Just before he was about to drift off to sleep, a strange smell met his nose. He climbed back out of his home and looked around. He saw smoke coming from a short distance away. He had seen this once before when lightening had struck a tree, but there had been no light from the sky tonight. He made his way over to where the smoke was coming from. Peering through the trees, he glimpsed someone who looked similar to him.

((I'm still developing the character, but I think it should feel a little choppy at the beginning. I feel like it's how he would think. It'll flow the more that his own thoughts do after he meets her and begins to learn.))

It's okay, I'm sorry for such a late post.

She couldn't believe this, it was almost unbareable to even think of, but there it was, blunt and bold before her: she was shipwrecked. Well, that was a term for it but not exactly the right one. It would have been right if there was a ship, but alas, there never was one -- only a plane. As she sat still before the fire she lit for some form of sanctuary, she kept her legs to her chest and her arms wrapped securely around them to keep herself from choking up in panic. She was lost on some sort of jungle-like island just because had to go on that flight tour before a storm. The storm wasn't even supposed to come in that early but it did and alas, her bravery turned into a fool's touch. She squeezed her eyes shut to keep from reliving the crash, the sudden pull to the ocean. But she was alive and that's all she wanted to focus on at the moment.

Her vibrant red hair was finally drying against the warmth of the fire she managed to start with the lighter she found in what luggage was on the plane. Her hair dried into waves and loose curls as she moved her hand to rub under her eye and wipe away the wet mascara that fell down her cheek from the water still on her face. Here she was, with horrible clothes to be lost in: just shorts and a nice tattered shirt thanks to the crash that clung to her body from its dampness. What did she have? Only her purse that held her makeup bag, a brush, a spare swim suit, sunscreen, and an emergency pack she managed to find before she began to swim to shore among the remains of the plane and the pilot somewhere tangled within the wreckage. The shore was the safest spot and she was thankful that she did manage to find a lighter for her fire, hoping it'd signal her being stranded.

She had read Lord of the Flies before. Thank God she wasn't with a bunch of pre-pubsent boys.

The man moved quietly towards the creature. What was it? How did it get here? He was low to the ground, eyes searching the figure. He had never seen anything like himself before. What were those things on its body? Why was it sitting like that? And, more importantly, why wasn't it watching the dangers around it? Sliding his knuckles along the dirt, he slid closer. A smell hit his nostrils. It was a sweet smell. Almost like berries or another fruit. It was coming from the creature. He looked around. There was wood with fire. How? There was no lightening. He was curious, but hesitant. He had gotten quite a few scars thanks to his curiosity.

He stopped about ten feet away. He grunted, looking at her with suspicious eyes. His body was covered in the soil he laid so close to. He needed to get it's attention. He grunted louder, waiting for a return grunt.

What was she going to do? Stay on the shore. What if no one came for her? She probably would have to marry an ape. She laughed at her thoughts, but it was no laughing matter. As she watched her toes play in the sand of the ground, she thought of what survival skills she did know from reading Lord of the Flies and something about a Hatchet. Stay on the shore and always have a fire, that's all she knew and all she was really doing. She released a sigh, "Marina, what have you gotten yourself into?"

Just as she breathed out her own question to herself, she heard a noise. She froze, too terrified to move with her head picked up off her knees and her sea colored eyes set wide in her startlement. Something just made a noise. What was it? A grunt? Oh no, what if some angry gorilla was behind her? What was this to be; King Kong? Still, she had to look; she'd rather see what was going to eat her before she met her end. Turning her head slowly, she looked for the source of the noise and to her surprise, there was no gorilla, no ape, no King Kong. At least, that's what she thought. It was a man -- a naked man. He was dirty, naked, in a strange position of stance, naked, staring at her, naked, and clearly not apparent to any civil nature -- did she forget to mention that he was naked? She didn't know whether to be scared or pleased to see what appeared to be another human being.

"... H-hello," she managed to get out. Dear Lord, what if he was a cannibal? Moving slowly, she gathered herself up to her feet just incase he was some sort of inbred cannibal, hungry for young girl flesh. Still, she didn't want to come off threatening. This was another human being. She nervously grabbed onto her hair. "Um, hello. My name is Marina. I seem to be, um, shipwrecked... or plane-wrecked."

She probably sounded so stupid.
