There was a bio company specializing in xeno genetics who was trying to see if its possible to create a brand new species. It was not what to make per se but if it was possible. Still, despite not needing a certain result, they had to go somewhere with it. They started small. Something that perhaps will be proven to be a good pet around the house. As they did not want it to reproduce, all of them will be male. While it does need to eat, it does not need much food due to its metabolism. They were also tough and can take a lot of abuse. As the work continued and near completion, the higher ups noticed how there was so little oversight on specific goals because of the “let just do it and get it done” mentality. The result was that many working on the pet wanted one thing or another, resulting in some things not really expected.

The end result was a small creature whose body was the size of a large fist. Most of it was its appendectomy: three tentacles on each side, plus one on the front and back, making it more the size of a large cat. Besides giving it the ability to move around, it has its many little eyes along with its auditory, taste buds, and olfactory parts. It also had something unforeseen. When it rubs its tentacles in or against something long enough. Shocked at what it does, and deemed highly inappropriate for public display, they debated what to do with him. But the creature knew it was not loved. And when being transported by one who yelled and threw him around in a small cage, was able to escape.

At first he felt nice being free. But the local wildlife seemed scared of him. A few approached out of curiosity, only to bite him. He survived only because he was so tough to hurt, but his feelings.... He found one day a cabin, knowing it was something those humans have made. He came from the rear, and looked through a rear sliding door and saw it was furnished but no lights, no humans. Nothing. Crawling under the back porch, depressed, it spent days whimpering in loneliness.

Though the cabin looked unoccupied, it was actually just recently given to a miss Sophie Hunter, a woman whom had just recently dumped her boyfriend not more than a month ago. She had caught him cheating on her and had stormed right out of his house despite them having been together for nearly seven months; it would have officially seven months just a week ago.

Since she had been living with him, she moved into her parents' house for a bit just to get away from him before she could find somewhere. She finally did: a nice little cabin just within the woods. She was always an outdoorsy person so she knew it would be perfect for her. And it was a simple two bedroom, one and a half bathroom house with a fireplace, so she instantly had fallen in love with it.

Her car pulled up the dirt driveway and she turned off her car with a loud sigh. She knew her parents had offered to help her bring her things over, but she had just loaded her car high with as much as she could since she really just wanted to do it on her own. As she looked at it in-person she thought it looked even better than before.

She got out of the car and then walked to the front door, pausing to take a moment to find the key that would unlock it. After fumbling around with her key ring she finally found it and unlocked the door. She headed inside and smiled as she looked around the large living room and then to the other side where the entire wall was covered in ceiling-to-floor windows that had the curtains draw to the sides to allow the sunlight to pool in.

"Home sweet home, Soph," she said to herself with a chuckle before leaving the door open and going back to her car. It took her a few trips to get the boxes she had from her car and at least into the living room since she didn't want to leave them sitting there. She threw them in different rooms where she would place the contents before deciding to take a break and took out a water bottle she had brought with her to take a drink. She saw the sun was getting close to setting and she told herself she should take a break and go explore the back porch since she hadn't yet been there.

Water bottle in hand, she slid open the glass doors that led onto the porch. There was already a small table and three chairs there, brought over earlier by her parents that decided to come by and drop off some of the big things despite her arguments. She sat down on one of the chairs with a content sigh and gazed out into the forest, knowing that she would love being able to view this every day.

The poor creature fell asleep in its depression till noises inside the cabin gradually woke him up. His first impulse was to check it out, but it was a human. With boxes! Considering his experience with being in a cage before, which was like a box, his fear of both rejection and being in one of those things made him hide again. Torn with his case of avoidant personality, he sneaked back underside till, at least, she was done with those boxes.

Later, she came out. She had something in her hand and did not know what that was. The threat removed, the fear went down a little and his instincts told him to risk it. He went to the very bottom of the stairs, waiting, not realizing he was still not in view. He crept up, one step at a time, till it was obvious she was looking right at him. His front tentacle, held high, started shaking, then he darted out of sight under the porch. All but his back tentacle wrapped around his body, but he had to know what she was doing. So the back one slowly stretched out and peeked, shaking violently.

Sophie sighed and was relaxing back in the chair, allowing her muscles to relax from how stressed and tense they felt before. She knew she'd have to go back to her parents' house to get the rest of her stuff, but that would be a task for either tomorrow or the next day.

She was about ready to get up and head back inside when something caught her eye. She sat up straight as her eyes travelled down to the few steps that led out into the backyard. She felt her eyes widen as she spotted the strange tentacle-like appendage waving about. What was it? If it was attatched to anything, she couldn't see the rest of it.

Her heart was pounding rapidly in her chest as she stood up slowly, trying to move as slowly as she could so she wouldn't startle whatever creature it was sitting there. She took easy, gentle steps towards it until she was only a few feet away; she saw the entire body of the creature and saw it had wrapped itself in almost a dozen other tentacles while just waving the one. It was...quite a strange creature, and Sophie had to wonder if it were a natural animal or something that had been genetically engineered. More than likely it was the latter of the two.

"Hello there little creature," she said to it in a voice just above a whisper, wanting to see if she could get it to be calm. "I won't hurt you, I promise." It was the truth despite her being nearly scared out of her mind.

At first, the raised tentacle slowly went to touch lightly on the human, requiring him to stretch it as far as possible while backing up to her little by little. Touch. The it darted back in fear of being slapped. He knew that humans had a large appendage with a few smaller ones (hands and fingers) which they used often. And her voice seemed pleasant. So he went for one of her hands next, slowly wrapping and holding it. His multiple, small sense organs felt initially rough against her skin, but some sort of fluid made it easier to move. It was not slimy. Just a little bit damp. A dog licking her face will be more wet.

If she allowed this, he turns around, forcing his rear tentacle to let go. His front one comes close to her face, looking at her, not knowing her intentions. No one emotion took over, so he just sat there, mostly content, just looking to see what the human might do.

Sophie withdrew her hand a little when the creature withdrew, wanting to try and take it slow. She was very interested in the small creature and wanted to try and see if she could befriend it. She slowly reached her hand out again and didn't move as it then wrapped the tentacle around her hand. The feeling was strange; rough, yet also somewhat smooth since it also felt a little damp. It almost felt like a slightly wet paper towel.

She allowed her hand to rest on her hip as it withdrew itself again and then was very still when it reached a tentacle up to her face. She gave it an easy smile and felt the tentacle just brush against her face, sending a tingle down her spine. She cupped her hands and then lowered them to the ground, keeping an open and friendly look about her. "You're a very strange creature," she murmured to it. "You must be lonely out here. Why don't you come with me?" Did she think it could understand her? Not really. But she really was just hoping it could understand her body language since, in her mind, she thought it would be a good chance that this thing could be smarter than any normal animal.

He shook very slightly more out of nerves and anticipation at being held. Held for what? As he looked around as she led him inside, he suddenly remembered that New Thing she had in her hand. Where was it?! There! The ‘tail’ tentacle reached out and grabbed the top part of her water bottle, not knowing what it was, and wanting to examine it when he gets the....

As she went in he saw The Boxes. The little guy had to quickly decided which of that old question of survival to do: fight or flight. There were just too many, so he choose the latter. He jumped to her. His small body fit well between her two breasts, as his upper left and right tentacles wrapped around her shoulders, the middle ones around her chest, and the lower ones around her lower back . The ‘head’ tentacle kept looking around while the tail continue to grip hard on the bottle. If she was going to stuff him in one of those things he is out of here. Getting locked up again is something he does not want to experience again.

Sophie didn't know what she was doing, really, bringing this thing inside. But she thought it was a friendly creature and just thought it would be a cute thing to keep around. Yeah, she didn't know what it was and she didn't know if it could kill her or not....She just had too much curiosity about it.

As it wrapped around her, she jumped in surprise and placed a hand on the wall behind her, staring down at it with wide eyes. "Did I...scare you?" she asked gently and then looked back up at the room. A thought dawned on her: Was this creature afraid of the boxes? It was possible if the thing had been caged before. And if it was, did that mean...it had been made in a lab? She walked over to the dining room table that had no boxes near it and bent over as she gently stroked one of its tentacles.

"Here, stay on this table. I told you I wasn't going to hurt you and I keep my promises," she told it quietly, surprised at how calm and in control she sounded. She still wasn't sure if it could understand her, but she knew talking to animals often calmed them so long as one used a calming voice. If the tentacle creature allowed itself to be detatched from her and set onto the table, Sophie would then go and collapse the boxes so they were flat and then would go and stuff them into the closet; at least she'd do that with the ones that were totally empty. She would only move the other boxes to somewhere else that still had stuff in them.

Being placed on a large flat surface did much to calm his nerves. He looked at both her and the boxes at the distance and sighed. The human did not seem to know what to do with him yet, which might as well since he wanted to check out this new object. Using his rear and back two tentacles like a tripod, he moved the water bottle in his other four side tentacles. The top, after some fiddling, came loose. Dropping it, he looked at the little cap before realizing now there is a hole!

It made him remember something both great and terrible. When at the lab, being held, the human at that time changed her tone of voice and seem to talk to him in a much simpler language. Even tossing him in the air! Why he had no idea. Unable to stand the female’s high, obnoxious voice and language, he stuck a tentacle in her mouth. And for some crazy reason, it felt good. Especially when moving back and forth. How it ended though was quick and confusing. He remembered some white gooey stuff. Lots of it. Then him blacking out and screaming. Followed by him waking up in that blasted carrier, all alone. And to top it all off, he felt awful. He never had one, but if he knew the word and can say it, he would call it a ‘hangover’.

So before he tried to see if the water bottle might work, he first looked to the human wondering if it did work if she will likewise scream and lock him up. Well, she’s been nice sounding so far. Looking back at the bottle, he tried to stick his front tentacle in the hole. It did not went far. He lifted the tentacle, the bottle in the air. In a brief panic he wondered if he could get it out, and to his equally quick relief it did. He tried holding it or perhaps something else, but other than a little uninteresting water inside, he found no use for it. Putting in his left front, and waving it around a bit, he threw it to the closest box. Now he found a use! He ran for it, let it get stuck on his front tentacle, and with the bottle high up in the air, started exploring the rest of the house for a possible place to serve as his own private stash.
