Protecting Your Charge( Dr Curiosity & Sweet Angel Jocelyn

"Alright." Anya said, nodding. Then, she decided to joke around with him a little. "Where is my ring?" She asked, looking down at her hand. "I want a big diamond for my engagement ring, and something in white gold or silver for the wedding band." She explained, smiling at him.

She was amazingly trusting, so she didn't ask him more on it. If he thought that she wasn't going to have trouble, then she was sure that she wasn't going to have trouble. It was what caused her all the trouble, but she didn't learn well.

Kenneth had been hoping she wouldn't think of it, but she had. Too late now. "Yes Miss Anya. Rings are on our to-do-list for the day." He thought for a moment, using a photographic memory to remember what was on the list. "Anything you want, according to your father. Everything has been taken into account already Anya." Which was exactly right. There had been a week long conference on just the protection of Mr. Romanov's daughter, which he considered to be of the highest priority. A typical feeling for a man concerned about the safety of his daughter.

This was something that Kenneth could never understand. His whole life he had been paid to take bullets for his charges. But this man was willing to lay down his life for his daughter without any reason besides his. No money, no self gain. It was what people called 'love'. Gladney didn't believe in love. He brushed it away as an excuse for weakness. Kenneth was calculating, and rarely let his emotions guide him. Training influenced his actions. Assumptions moved his mouth. Calculations steadied his thoughts.

Anya nodded and thought about it. While she wasn't very smart, she'd gotten some analytical skills from her father. She knew that she couldn't get what she would really want. It would have to fit with the characters that they would play. She was a thirty-something man's young bride. She was supposed to be an aspiring model, so of course it would have to be gaudy, at least to a degree. She was actually very sensible with her jewelry, not that people believed that. She was rich, so she had to be the type that loved big jewels. Of course.

As the plane got ready to descend, Anya looked over at her guard and wondered what he thought about pretending to be her husband for however long.

Kenneth sat in silence, eyes straightforward, but not looking at anything in particular. He felt Anya's eyes on him, but did not comment. It was just something that he found that his charge did every once in a while. She was thinking, much as her father did when Mr. Gladney had been under his service. Though he had only been assigned to Anya for some three months now, he had been under the employment of the Romanov family for eight years. A decent eight years they had been as well. One could not go so far as to say good, for in this profession, not much was good. Just less bad.

The plane descended for the next thirty minutes, before finally arriving at a private airport in New York. There would be no checkpoints, as you could not even register in without being a citizen, inhumanly wealthy, and so on. In this little facade, Kenneth was both of those. He was able to have documents under his direct name, having no files whatsoever. Building his was simply a process of taking what he currently had, and turning it into legal documentation. In fact, the location for the relocation had been set based on Mr. Gladney already being a no name shareholder in Harris Bros. Corp. All that need be done was expand his shares by purchasing more. This now made Kenneth Gladney a major shareholder of 17%, a substantial amount in consideration that there were so many hundreds of shares to buy.

When the plane landed, Kenneth unbuckled himself first, and proceeded to unlock the cockpit. As the side door opened of the plane, descending onto the stairs, Kenneth made sure he was first out. The runway was clear, as it had been confirmed that crime families had been informed of Anya's relocation. Now extra precautions had to be taken until they were in the semi-safety of their home. A black Audi Coupe sat some 30 yards away from the plane, to provide as transportation for the "couple." Of course, Mr. Gladney liked to drive himself, as he could only trust himself to truly protect his charge from this point on. At the bottom of the steps he awaited Anya with hand in coat, gripping his revolver almost nervously.

A three stone ring. That was what Anya decided, the middle bigger than the side two, princess cut. She figured they could all be rather big and white, though that was far from her dream. She also figured to put it on a yellow gold band. The wedding band, she decided, would have to be yellow gold to match, sprinkled with white diamonds. It was all extremely gaudy and in her opinion tacky. However, she was playing a part, the part of a young woman that most would see as a gold-digger anyway.

Once they'd landed, and she'd finished thinking about the rings that she would be forced to wear every day for God knew how long, she watched as Kenneth got up from his seat and made his way from the plane. The blonde stood as well and started her own exit from the aircraft, calling a quick farewell to the pilot as she went.

Walking slowly down the stairs, her stiff back and determined gait told of her classy and pampered upbringing. She held her chin high as she walked down and looked at the car that she was sure was to bring them to whatever home they would have. When she reached Kenneth, she flashed a fast smile and looked around. "America, hmm?" She said.

"Yes ma'am, America." Kenneth looked around with a look of distaste, as if just being there disgusted him. In truth, it kind of did. America was a two faced country in his eyes, without honor, without a sense of civic duty. Hell, it was a mutinous country that forced itself away from another country. America is only a growing weed, needed to be cut down as Kenneth saw it.

Taking Anya's hand and tucking it under his arm, he led her to their transportation. Kenneth was in bodyguard mode now. He was not going to be satisfied until they were in their penthouse, safe and locked away from any major dangers. His eyes scanned everything, and his free hand was ready to reach for his gun in less than a moment's notice. No danger seemed present though, however that's the best time for it to show up. So Mr. Gladney led his charge with a watchful eye, opening the door to the coupe once they were upon it, waiting for her to get in. Once she had he strode around it and got in quickly, starting the car swiftly. The soft burr of the engine let him know just how far gone this car could be if he needed to get away in a hurry.

Shifting into drive, the 'man and his wife' took the vehicle exit of the runway, hitting a clear highway to the city. The airport was several miles out of New York, as to avoid making check ups convenient for officials all the time. A good tactic in Kenneth's eyes, well at least for their purpose. He hit the interstate going 90 mph. Well over the speed limit. They had places to be. First, a jeweler, than the penthouse. Afterward Kenneth had private business to attend to.

Anya didn't have much opinion for America, but she figured that maybe she could find some friends and get some partying done. No, she couldn't date without causing suspicion, but she would live with that. At least the man she was pretending to be married to was attractive. It wasn't like she had to look at a hideous person every day. In fact, the only problem she saw being 'married' to someone who looked like him was the fantasies that she wouldn't be able to fulfill, tempting as they were. She just couldn't stand him.

In the car, she sat comfortable, her hands folded on her lap. She didn't know where he had them going, but she figured that he did, and that was really all that mattered.

A bit different than normal, Kenneth felt odd in silence with Anya, especially since she usually had something to say to her bodyguard. So, against his better judgment, Mr. Gladney broke the silence. "We're stopping at a jeweler's first.." His voice faded, as he wasn't quite sure how to play the concerned for a person role. Usually he took orders and did something. Now though, it was his decisions that were going to guide their lives. "Perhaps you would like to...eat somewhere afterward?" He had choked on the words halfway through the sentence, and it made him really realize that he did not know how to hold a normal heartfelt conversation. Only rehearsed conversation that he had learned in training, or making a facade by watching television or reading a book. It was then he thought he was probably a horrible companion, and sort of felt sorry for Anya. She would be stuck with him on a very close level for who knows how long.

Anya looked up at his voice. So, jewelers first. "Alright." She said. At his question, she looked up at him. "I'd prefer to cook." She told him, flashing a quick smile. It all had suddenly hit her that she wasn't going to be home for a long time. Her friends were gone, she wouldn't be able to see them, she wouldn't be able to see her father. That was the hardest of all, as a Daddy's girl, she wasn't ready to see nothing of him for so long. "Did my father give you a limit on what you should spend for the rings?" She asked him.

Kenneth nodded as she said she wanted to cook. If it had been anybody else he might have said no way in hell. But how likely was it that Anya was going to poison him. "As you wish." He accelerated, weaving through the cars that were now starting to appear on the roads. When she asked if there was a limit, Kenneth had to think. Mr. Romanov did indeed have a comment in subject of the purchasing of the rings. "He said it should not cost more than a country. Anything under that is appropriate." Of course Mr. Romanov had said it very jokingly, but Kenneth was unable to express that. He had a very cold sense of humor, and light jokes didn't come out of his mouth well. "Do you have a general idea of what you want?"

Anya flashed a smile and nodded. She was sure that her father was just joking, she hoped. She knew her father's sense of humor. Clearly, this man had no sense of humor. Maybe she could loosen him up? That could be a mission for a little while, getting the man to relax for a while and actually laugh and joke. "Yes, I do." She told him, looking down at her finger. "Something tacky." She said simply, not explaining more of it. She had a very good reasoning behind that, and she would tell him, if he asked.

Kenneth's eyes shifted to Anya for a second, wondering whether she was going to expand upon a 'tacky' ring. Apparently not. Not that he was complaining. It often felt like Anya had too much to say, and Kenneth was once told a superstition that if you let a person talk to you long enough, your ear might just fall off. If it was true, Kenny would rather that not happen to him. So they kept driving. It was twenty plus minutes before they were finally within official limits of New York. You knew you were when you started moving a few inches per minute. It didn't matter, not as though they had a certain time frame they needed to work within.

It was now that having silence became somewhat of a nuisance. Two people in a car for God knows how much longer, and nothing to talk about. After all, what would Kenneth Gladney, bodyguard, have to talk about? The difficulties of guarding a beautiful, arrogant mafia princess? Not exactly pleasant conversation if you asked him.

Anya was a bit relieved that Kenneth wasn't going to press her on her reasoning for a tacky ring. She figured that he would just think it was her style and be on with it. She was sure that he thought she was the type that would like the gaudy and overdone. But, that was just fine with her. What did she care if some over buffed, too serious, gun toting meat head thought of her?

Once they started moving slowly, she couldn't think of much to do in terms of talking to the man and taking away the weirdness. So, she just brought her hands up to look at her nails, running one nail under another to clean the already clean nails.
