It had been seven years since Andromeda Nicolette Devereaux left the small town of New Hope, but still something drew her back. Most people knew her, most remembered her, and she wasn't sure whether that was a good or bad thing. She had been a spitfire and quite the catch as a teenager, and most had been sorry to see her go when she left for college and medical school. Andromeda, who was often called Andi, stood at a slightly small 5'3", with a moderately curvy build, her legs were long, and her waist small. Her dark brown hair fell in soft waves reaching the middle of her back, and bright blue eyes added to her sometimes mysterious aura. There was no doubt that she was considered a beautiful woman.

She returned to New Hope with very little fanfare two weeks prior, bought a nice little farmhouse that had once belonged to her grandmother, and settled in to begin a quiet existence. Yes, there was something absolutely perfect about life in New Hope, where things moved slowly and crime was almost non-existent. Andromeda had come home to practice, and she was glad of it. Too much time New York City trying to keep her head above water was draining and unpleasant. It was lucky for New Hope too, it seemed, because a month before her arrival, Dr. Gregory Yanis had retired and moved to Florida, leaving the small town without a doctor. And so the little office had passed to Andromeda.

Andromeda had come home to a simpler life, but life never remains simple. Not two hours after her little office opened it's doors three weeks ago, a very attractive man came rushing in with his daughter. Todd Evans brought his daughter into the office with her arm wrapped in a homemade sling, and it was clear that the arm was broken. After an x-ray to be sure, Andromeda wrapped the girl's arm in a cast, prescribed a mild painkiller, and sent them on their way. But it was Todd she remembered most from the incident, rushing in from his job looking tired but concerned.

She was seated in her office, going over some paperwork, her dark hair pushed back out of her face, bright green eyes scanning the text in front of her. Thirty years of medical records, bills, and random thank you letters to go through. It seemed Dr. Yanis had not been an efficient record keeper, and neither had his former nurse. At the moment, Andromeda was the only one there because while she had the money to hire one, decent nurses in town all worked at the hospital. Across the back of a chair in the small office was a white lab coat, and the woman behind the desk seemed too young to be a doctor. She certainly didn't dress in the usual way. Instead she wore a pair of slightly snug fitting jeans, black cowboy boots, and black tank top under a soft blue button up.

Todd had only been a resident of New Hope for five years. He had moved here with his family, his wife and then five year old daughter Nicole, but she got the name Nickey for short. He had moved here to persue a dream, owning a rare book store. He had found one for sale in this small town, one that had a larger group of loyal patrons than the town belayed. He sunk everything into that store, moving his family there and living in the two story appartment above it. Nickey wa a tomboy, always playing sports and climbing trees. She loved to be outdoors and had a stubborn streak in her, the same streak he had fallen in love with when he saw it in her mother.

Todd's wife passe away two years before. She had an anurism and died suddenly and without suffering the effects of long term illness. One minutes she had been there, the next she was gone. It had been hard on both he and Nickey, but he had not let on just how hard it was for him. Many nights, alone in his bed, he felt only lonelyness and sarrow. Why did bad things happen to good people. For a long time he carried on only for Nickey.

Three days ago her school had called, she had been in an accident. He feared the worse and when he arrived he was thankful that only a broken arm was the problem. The school had put her in a makeshift sling and he had hurried her to the new doctor's office, the nearest hospital being to far to force his daughter to endure the pain of such a drive. He was so worried, but Dr. Devereaux had put him immediately at ease. She had a calm way about her, a wonderful bedside manner. She had taken such wonderful care of Nickey that Todd had been more than just relieved and greatful, he had been happy. It had been too long since he felt happy.

Over the next few days he had written and dsigarded a dozen notes of thanks to this wonderful doctor. She was pretty but he couldn't remember exactly why. She had been so calm and patient with him in his hour of need, so intelligent in her handling of his headstrong little girl, that Todd had a hard time remembering anything spefic about her that made her pretty, she just was. His daughter had hit on it the night before, "Make her lazagna, Mom always liked it." Lazagna had been a code between he and his wife. He had made it for her the first night they had slept together and from then on having Lazagna meant more than just eating the meal. In his mind he replaced his wife eith the doctor in his bed and for the first time did not feel guilty about that.

He got up this morning and started the sauce. It took all day to make properly. He would go up and check on it during lulls in the store. When Nickey got home, they had assembled the lazagna in a deep dish and put it in the oven to bake. Timer set she was given instructions to take it out and put the garlic bread in when the timer went off. Todd had gone to the florist next door to his bookstore, the only one for an hour in any direction, and bought roses, hoping they wouldn't austentatios.

He sat in the parkinglot of her office for nearly an hour, trying to work up the courage to go and ask her over for a meal. It was a date, he had no illusions otherwise, but it would be a date with his daughter as well. Finally getting up the nerve he rang her bell and waited. She answered the door and he was immediately reminded of why he had thought her beautiful, her bright greens eyes stood out against her richly colored skin. His throat went dry and he remembered the flowers in his hand. "We, that is Nickey and I, were hoping you would join us tonight. I made Lazagna...its sort of my speciality." He extended the flowers to her, wondering if people even still gave flowers on dates...thats how long it had been since he had been on one...

It was getting late, and Andromeda was still at work; she'd seen two broken arms and three cases of food poisoning. It appeared that something had gone awry in the cooking at a dinner party the night before. Hair pulled into a low ponytail hung over her shoulder in soft curls, she finally decided that it was time to call it a day. Tucking away the last of her files and cleaning up her office, she was surprised by a ring of her bell. Sure that it was an emergency patient, Andromeda grabbed her coat and hurried to the door, tugging on the coat as she walked.

But instead of a patient, she found Todd, flowers in hand, and her bright green eyes widened in surprise. She was about to ask if Nickey, his daughter was alright, when she spotted the flowers. Roses were her favorites, but she was sure that he didn't know that; a soft smile appeared on soft pretty pink lips. "Todd, what a surprise!" She called him by his first name, just as he had asked on the first day they'd met, and she insisted that he call her Andi, or at least Andromeda.

This was an invitation to a date, to include his daughter of course, but it was a date none the less. Andromeda couldn't deny that she was thrilled at the prospect of dinner with him, after all he seemed like such a kind man, who loved his daughter very much, and he was very attractive. "Lasagna sounds fantastic. I'd love to have dinner with you and Nickey." His bookstore and apartment were a short walk from her office, and she allowed him to lead the way, taking his arm. "How is Nickey's arm?" She asked quietly; conversation was more awkward than she anticipated.

They arrived at his apartment a short time later, and she had attempted to make casual conversation the entire way there. As she stepped into the apartment, she was greeted by the smell of warm garlic bread and fresh lasagna and the sound of Nickey's voice, welcoming her. "Smells wonderful. How are you feeling Nickey? The arm giving you any trouble."

He gave a low chuckle and replied, "You should be sure to say it Lazagna in front of Nicky, she may give you a full scolding otherwise. See when she was a kid she couldn't say it the right way. We all started saying it her way because it was so cute and all." He was obviously proud of his daughter, even when she didn't get things exactly right.

He tried to make their conversation less awkward, but he had not been on a date in a very long time and so he was far out of practice. He commented on Nicky's arm. "It itches, and she says it smells bad bacuse she cannot wash it in the cast. She tried to use a pencil to scratch it, but the pencil broke off." He chuckled again, knowing his daughter's delima shouldn't be funny but it was.

As they made it, Nicky greeted them warmly. She eyed the way Andi was holding his arm and seemed to give a smirk of approval. Nicky went on about how her arm itched and how the pencil was now stuck in there. It did not seem to hinder her at all, though, as she set the table, poured the drinks and such. She poured wine for Todd and Andi, but Todd protested. "You should ask Dr. Andromeda first, she may not like wine." Nicky pouted but did as she wa told. She was obviously a good kid, maybe mature for her age, but still nice and pleasant. She did a lot of the talking, telling Andi about her school, about her friends, about the boys she liked. This made Todd blush but he did not stop her, he knew she needed this - a woman to confide in about things women confided about. What better person to talk about sex and such with than a doctor, when the time was right anyway.

Todd was a decent cook. It wasn't ruined, and he seemed to favor exobedant amounts of cheese, which was bed for his cholesterol and such. Nicky began to yawn early. Todd looked puzzled at her, and she explained that Gym class had been particularly tiring today. She would turn in early, which left Todd's jaw hanging open. "Well that has to be the very first time she has ever gone to bed without having to be made to."

Todd blinked a few times, trying to wrap his head around what had just happened as he daughter scammpered off to bed. He sighed heavily, "She probably wanted to avoid doing the dishes." He insisted it was ok, that he would scrape everything and load the dish washer later. He invited her to sit and talk with him on the couch. It did not take long for him to get comfortable and open up. He talked about his life before and after moving here. He told Andromeda about what happened to his wife, but he was solomn and did not go into details. He moved past it quickly, wanting to keep the light mood. When he looked up at the clock he realized it was past midnight. He thought about hos lucky he was that tomorrow was saturday and he opened the store late. She did not have to be in her office at all. He was polite, though, telling her that if she had somewhere he did not want to hold her up, but...he would like for her to stay. Something in his eyes told her that he wanted more than just to talk with her, but that he was taking things slowly...
