Spoils of War (Nyoko & LifeonMars)

She smiled at his proposal, "That would be wonderful, sir." She stood up and gave a curtsy, his bow made her unsure of what to do. She smiled and sat back down in her chair. This man was being very nice to her, too nice it seemed. She would have to be careful, but he was charming. She grabbed a book off the table, "You sure you want to teach me? I mean, I'm sure you have other things to do besides teaching a slave how to read."

Taking his seat again he pulled over some of the less complicated books. "My dear, don't be so shy about the matter. Helping you will also help put me in good graces with the king, and I'm sure your a lovely young lady to spend time with." He turned to a page of poetry and gave her a wink. "Besides, it is said that the joy of learning is only matched by the joy of teaching."

She moved a bit closer to him once he sat back down, "Well thank you, you don't realize how much I appreciate this, sir." She smiled at him and looked at the book he picked out. She recognized a few of the words from what her father had taught her before she came here. This man seemed to like her a lot, but she had forgotten his name, "Sir, I'm sorry, but I forget your name." She looked at him, it was only polite she knew his name.

He tapped himself on the forehead with with a laugh. "Where are my manners? I am Alexander Treverson," he took her hand and kissed it lightly, bowing his head to her. "A pleasure to make your aquantice.

Adjusting himself in the seat he gave his goatee another stroke. "Now, before we begin why don't you tell me about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, what interests you. It will be easier for you to learn, I think, if we try reading about subjects that interest you."

She chuckled a bit and smiled, "It is very nice to meet you, sir. What would you prefer I call you then?" She didn't want to be rude and use his name if slaves' weren't allowed to do that. She was a bit surprised at his next comment, and thought it was funny how he stroked his goatee. She was warming up to him, he was very very nice to her, and not many people were.

"Well, I'm not sure... " She blushed a little and held herself nervously. She wasn't really sure what she liked.

(OMG! We forgot about toby! haha xD)

"The people generally refer to me as Sir Treverson," he explained, "but since we are alone please refer to me as Alexander. I much prefer a more relaxed teaching environment."

He saw her blush and chuckled. "Surely a beauty such as yourself isn't shy? Why, if that isn't just splendid!" He slapped his knee in good humor. "You don't find such a good-natured girl these days. I believe teaching you is going to be a joy." Reaching for a few more books he started flipping though titles. "I'm sure we can find something that interests you. Do have any loves? Gardening? Cooking? Animals?"

((I'm sure he'll be fine, he's a survivor that one! Got to sign off though, sorry about that. Something came up. Nothing serious, but I need to take care of it.))

She couldn't help but smile from his behaviors, "Okay.. Alexander." She liked how he allowed her to use his name, like she was a noble or something. She gave a shrug and thought about more things she could tell him, there had to be things she liked, besides her master, she was a bit caught off guard that the only thing she could think about was him. Well him and Toby.

"Master allows me to keep a kitten." She smiled at him, "His name is Toby. So I do like animals, and sometimes gardening." She thought a bit more and placed her hand on her chin to think, "I really enjoy history as well..." She had always enjoyed learning whatever she could about the past. Everything from the ancient cultures to stories of legend in her time.

(the maid fed him. =) Well you have fun with that. or whatever haha.)

He seemed really interested in what she had to say, taking in every detail as she tried to think. "I believe I know just the thing." Standing up he moved down the rows of books, going over them with an expert eye. His fingers trailed over the covers as he read over the titles, his eyes finally locking on the desired piece.

"A History of the Fairy Folk and their Brethren," he read aloud. "I think you will find this very interesting. It is a compilation of legends and fables that surround this kingdom." He set it down in front of her, opening the cover to show fanciful illustrations and pages of text. "It uses simple, intelligent prose so shouldn't be too difficult for you."

She was eating up the attention. Sure she got attention from her master, but their relationship had been so up and down that this nice man was a relief to her. Still her master's reaction to her interaction with him worried her. She remembered how he wasn't sold on this man when they met. She really didn't care much though, she liked him a lot, he was good to her. She watched him search the books, he seemed to already know much about this library.

"That is interesting." She said once he sat down and glanced over the pictures and the text, "I think I can get this... with your help of course." She had leaned in closer to him, no to be affectionate, just warming up to him.

He didn't back up at all when she leaned in, his body completely relaxed in her presence like she was a personal friend. "Then let's get started. Take a good look at this story, it tells about the legend of the fairy prince and his love..."

He stayed with her for the next two hours, the time flying by so fast during the teaching. He helped her to recognize her letters, showing her how to enunciate each individual syllable of a word and the rules of the English language. By the end of it they had gone through several stories, him guiding her aloung the whole way with helpful criticism and comments. Occasionally there was the stray touch of the hand on his part but he never lingered, keeping his eyes on hers the entire time.

One story he had her go over several times was the tale of the fairy prince. He was a cruel, selfish fairy who loved a mortal woman and so one night stole her away. He kept her locked away with him, trying to buy her love but eventually leaving her imprisoned and sad.

Closing the book Alexander looked to the grandfather clock on the wall. "My my, look at the time. I'm sure your King is finished with his meeting by now. Shall I escort you my dear?"

Kira was rather enjoying herself with him. She took in everything he said like it was the best thing she had ever heard and a smile never left her face. When his hand would brush against hers she would smile even more, she wasn't sure what had come over her, but she enjoyed this man's company a lot.

She was especially interested in the last story, it touched her in a way. She felt a connection with the woman, because she had this fear, this terrible fear that she would end up alone and locked away when her master was tired of her. Her spirits were brought up when he suggested he be her escort.

"Id rather stay here for a while longer, but I would love for you to escort me." She stood up and smiled at him.

Joining her he stood up, nodding his head. "Well, I'm glad you enjoyed my company." He stepped up in front of her, leading her towards the carved oak doors. "We will have to continue your lessons sometime in the future. I spend much of my spare time here, so if you ever find yourself wandering please stop by."

Leading the way he guided her through the large castle, down the hallways towards the Kings meeting room. Outside the door Benedict was bearing several of his advisors farewell. As they approached his eyes caught hers, leading in confusion to Alexander's. "Sir Treverson, Kira. What are the two of you doing together?" Their was a hint of tension in his voice, having seen the smile Kira wore while waking with the ambassador.

Kira walked behind the ambassador, not far though, she just didn't want to disrespect him in anyway. She thought he wouldn't mind anyways. As they continued down the hall she hoped her master was finished, it would be awkward if they walked in on him in his meetings.

To her relief she saw her master out in the hallway, and kept her head bowed until the advisors were gone. She had learned something from training, never piss off a noble. When her master spoke she looked up, her smile fading slightly when she heard his voice, "Alexander was helping me learn how to read." She beamed. "And he offered to return me to you." She hoped he wouldn't be upset.

"Is that so?" Benedict kept back a frown, knowing it was important to do nothing to insult an ambassador from a powerful country. "I hope she wasn't much trouble then."

"None at all!" Alexander said with a wave of his hand. "She was quite the charmer. You should be pleased to have such a well-mannered girl serving you." Taking Kira's hand in his again he planted a farewell kiss upon it. "I look forward to our next meeting. See you at dinner."

Bowing to Benedict Alexander took his leave. The King waited until he was gone before looked down at his young slave. "Well? What happened with him?"

Kira smiled at the ambassador as he spoke so highly of her, he was so charming, and maybe her master would be impressed with her since she had behaved so well with him. She tried to hide her girlish giggle as he kissed her hand and she curtsied to him. "Farewell."

She watched him leave and only looked at her master when he spoke, and she looked up at him, "He taught me how to read some, master." She hoped he wasn't upset with her, his tone seemed to hide some anger he had.

Truthfully, Benedict was somewhat upset that she had enjoyed herself so much with the man who was an obvious flirter. But he was also pleased that she was getting on the good side of the ambassador. That could lead to new doors being opened between their kingdoms if she could work him over some and make him more inclined to agreeing to his alliance proposal.

"Very good then," he said in a gruff voice. He looked at her and patter her head, "It is...good he likes you. Try and keep that up, I want you to try and make him comfortable while he is here." Hopefully that wouldn't be to long.

Kira smiled at him, "Really? Thanks, master!" She was so relieved that he wasn't upset with her, he was known to be the jealous type, he had even marked her so no man would touch her. She gave him a quick hug and let go.

"Where to now master?" She remembered him talking about getting her a dress or something like that.

He nodded and slipped his arm under hers, leading her arm in arm for once in his time. "Yes, I can't have you wearing your plain outfits that you have now and I doubt you want to go naked. Unless of course, you were hoping for it..." He gave her a small pinch of her bottom with a laugh. God, it was good to be out of that stuffy meeting.

Leading her down the hall he had the urge to strike up a conversation. "So..." he trailed off, not sure where to take this. "What...did you read?" That seemed good enough.

Kira shook her head, "No... not naked, that would be too embarrassing. Besides you want me on the good side of Alexander, remember?" She wondered if he would notice how she used his first name, uncommon for a slave to call someone such, but she really wasn't a normal slave. She leaned against him as they walked.

"A bunch of stories, but the last one we read was about a princess who was kidnapped and kept in a tower and her captor tried to get her to love him, but when she didn't she was left all alone. Depressing really. But at least I got to learn more."

"You mean Sir Treversonm correct?" He was not about to have Kira use the first name of a such an important dignitary in public, the scandle it could create would be much too troublesome. Of course, the fact she WAS using his first name to begin with worried him.

He listened to her describe the story she read, thinking back on his own childhood. "I remember a story like that, I believe." He remarked. "Good to see you are learning a skill, most useful." He led her down the hallway, enjoying stretching his legs after the meeting. "I could find a tutor for you, if you wished..."

Kira paused and gave a shrug, "He said I could call him Alexander. I was polite with him at first of course, but he insisted." She wasn't about to get into trouble because she had been told something different by the dignitary. "But thank you, I am glad to be learning things. Oh, and I don't need a tutor, Alexander said he would tutor me." She smiled at him, using his name again only because she could. She had never even uttered her master's first name and now here she was calling a powerful dignitary by his first name. She hoped he wouldn't flip out to much, there were still some boundaries she hadn't explored yet with him.

Benedict felt his jaw tighten. Just what the hell was going on here? Why would Alexander act so...friendly to Kira? He could feel his possessive nature threaten to get the best of him but he pushed it down, though a hint of anger appeared on his face for a brief moment. He was mad alright, but he wasn't about to blow his top again. That had already been the cuase of too much trouble, and Alexander might take offense if Kira suddenly spurned him and his requests.

"That...is...good." He muttered, changing the subject. "We should go get your dress fitted."

God he hated politics.

Kira could tell he wasn't happy about this, she had learned how to tell his anger level. She took a step forward and wrapped her arm around his, looking up at him gently, "Sorry if I upset you..... I can only call him that in private, if you wish." She didn't see the harm in being a little friendly, maybe so far as flirty with Alexander, but she had to keep her master happy. But she didn't expect much of a response, he obviously wanted to avoid the subject.

She had forgotten about her dress and smiled when he mentioned it, "That would be wonderful." She still held onto his arm.

"That would be proper," he replied to her apology, trying to keep away from the subject. "Now lets get you fitted."

He led her to down the halls, earning a few stares from how close the two were standing. He shrugged them off, content that his servants and guards would think nothing off it when they remembered the tattoo on her back. He eventually brought her to a small room, well lit from window that overlooked the garden, but was high enough up that wandering eyes couldn't look inside. where several young woman waited with pieces of fabric, measuring tape, sewing needles, and threads. A middle-aged woman stood in front of them, obviously the head seamstress.

"Good evening you majesty," the older one said with a curtsy, "Is this the young lady we are to be fitting today?" She had a kind, pleasant air about her and didn't seem to show any ill-will towards Kira. The younger ladies looked a tad jealous, but they were doing their best to hide it.

Kira could see the looks of the other seamstresses, wondering what they could be so jealous of. She tried her best to ignore it and smiled at the woman speaking, giving her own small curtsy. She was still awkward with introductions, but thankfully this woman didn't seem easy to offend. She glanced around the room, wondering what kind of dress she might want. A brown one? Maybe that was to simple, but she wasn't a noble so simple might be her way to go. She hoped this ball wouldn't end in disaster, she hadn't been with other nobles, besides Alexander, with her master yet. She would have to watch her tongue and even how she held herself or what she did. She hoped this wouldn't be too hard.
