Letting out a sigh Kalia looked up at the blue sky that was dotted with white fluffy clouds. She was sitting on a limestone stool that was in the Castle garden right by a large water fountain. Kali's silk red hair pulled into a low ponytail hung behind her as her head was tilted back. Her deep dark brown eyes watching the clouds drift by. Her mind floating in the sky with the clouds and what not, day dreaming about different things, trying to forget what it was like to be a princess, all the rules and everything.

Kalia was rather pretty, her skin was coated in a soft tan, her curves were accented nicely by her silk blue dress that she wore right now, the dress hugging her form and her lush breasts. She let out a sigh and leaned back on her hands. She didn't know if anyone was around or anything, she knew some guards patrolled the area and everything, but she wasn't paying attention.

Kalia had skipped her classes for that afternoon, it was such a nice day she wanted to be out in the garden, not in some room with a teacher that loved to yell and have no fun. Who needed knowledge on what fork goes where anyway? It's not like it was that hard, why did she have to study it for four weeks? It got annoying. Kalia shrugged her shoulders and slid off the bench and onto the ground, it wasn't ladylike, but she didn't care right now, it was comfortable. She would answer to her parents later, plus she doubted they would know.

Alex walked about the corridors of the castle. A knight in service of the kingdom. The knight walked in full ceremonial plate armor. An ornate steel and sky blue armor that shined brightly in the sun. With the knight was a glaive, the weapon of the kingdom's guardsmen. Alex had joined a good few years ago. Now, the knight was nearly always in armor, face covered by the helmet's visor, the entire armor made to make the wearer look like a dragon.

Alex got outside to the garden and immediately sighted what of course was felt to be the most beautiful girl in the kingdom. It was only natural, and a bit of an established stereotype. But Alex saw it as positively true. The woman had a perfect body, tanned by the sun. It gave her a earthy glow, rather than all the people trying to be pale as was the trend.

"Princess." The voice Alex bore was a bit muffled, due to the full face helmet. "Please, forgive me for interrupting you. But, I've been asked to located you and deliver a message. Your teacher is rather miffed right now. Wants you back there to resume your lessons."

Kalia jumped a little when she heard a voice, she shot to her feet, her back straightening from her relaxed position. Acting as if she was just a puppy caught chewing on the rug. She calmed a little seeing that it was one of the guards, glad it wasn't her father or teacher. She released the breath she didn't realize she was holding and sat down on the limestone.

"Oh," she said softly, her voice as smooth as melted chocolate. A smile curved her pink lips and said, "Good." She paused and a light blush covered her cheeks, "My apologies...uh..." The blush deepened and she looked embarrassed, "What's your name again? It started with an A...right?" She wasn't good with names. She needed to get better but...still. She looked over at the guard, all of them looked a lot alike, but there were only a few that actually were sent out to looking for her, and that was the more experienced ones.

Alex suppressed a small laugh when the princess jumped up. "My princess. I am Alex. I'm flattered that you're able to tell us apart. I can't do that without a fellow knight's visor being lifted."

The knight knelt to one knee, humbly laying the weapon down. "Princess, would you have me send a message to your teacher? Or would you rather send me on another task? An order form you can only be superceeded by your parents, the king and queen. So you may send me to perhaps keep the other guards from looking for you. And then you can enjoy yourself in peace. I'd have to watch over you. But I promise not to interfere in your activities."

Kalia smiled softly and nodded, "Alex," saying the name again herself helped her remember it. She looked around a moment, fearing that the other guards would pop out and make her go to class. She didn't want to have to go to her lesson.

When the other suggested her sending a message to keep the other guards away, Kalia's face brightened. Her eyes got bright and her smile widened, "Please!" She said. "I don't want to have to go the lesson." She liked the idea of being left alone in peace, and then she wouldn't have to worry about another guard or something. And she wouldn't mind about the other, Alex seemed nice and Kalia liked being around them. Unlike the other guards, where she always felt uncomfortable.

"Yes, my princess!" Alex bowed deeper and left the princess. All Alex had to do was tell the other guards that the princess had been located and been told. No lie there. Their orders didn't include escorting the princess back to class. There were only a few guards to tell, thankfully.

Alex came back to the garden, expecting to find the Princess again. The knight stood quietly, watching the whole scene. And standing guard in her presence was much nicer than standing guard over an empty hall. After all, now the knight had something to watch. Someone radiant, beautiful, not at all uptight light most of the aristocracy. It soothed the heart to watch the princess.

When she was left alone Kalia had stood up and sat down on the edge of the fountain, leaning on her hands and staring back up at the sky. She was a lot more relaxed knowing she was being watched over by the guard. Since she didn't have to worry about anyone else coming up behind her or anything. She paused and her gaze suddenly snapped to a direction, and the look on her face went from slight confusion and shock to pure excitement and joy.

"It's him!" She said excitedly, more to herself than anything else. She moved from her perch and went towards a bunch of bushes and knelt down, ignoring the fact that she was now kneeling in dirt. She reached out into the bushes and pulled back with a small gray kitten in her hands, cuddling him to her she smiled and giggled as the kitten licked her cheek. She paused and looked over towards the guard, something like fear in her eyes, "Please don't tell anyone, Alex. My parents will order him thrown on the streets." She pleaded. Her parents hated cats.

Him? Like a man? There's no one here... Is there? Alex's heart skipped a beat on hearing the girl squeal just the tiniest bit. Standing suddenly at full attention, Alex was only confused as the princess jumped into a bush. But she pulled out a kitten. That was him? Alex was both relieved and actually kind of excited. The knight ran over, forgetting the weapon.

"Awwww! He's so cute!" The knight leaned in, smiling under the helmet. Hands on knees as Alex adored the kitten. "Yes princess! I promise to keep absolutely silent about this kitten. And any other animals you may be keeping form your parents." At that, the knight coughed and tried to save face from the little outburst, standing up straight and at attention.

Kalia smiled and nodded, she couldn't help but be happy that the other wouldn't tell about her kitten. She moved and wrapped one arm around the knight in a hug, the kitten a little squished between them. "Thank you!" She said excitedly. She moved away and hugged the kitten, "Oh! His name is Joey." At his name the kitten mewed softly, his purr was loud at all the attention.

Kalia had a bright smile on her face and hugged the kitten to her and then held him out to Alex, "Want to hold him?" She asked. She didn't really pay any mind to the guards outburst or anything. She did notice it wasn't like most of the other guards, who of which wouldn't really care. Kalia just shrugged it off and decided to inquire about it later.

"Uh sure..." The knight took hold of the kitten, being extremely ginger with the small grey fluffball. Joey was positively adorable. But Alex was wearing full armor, so the knight was understandably over-careful. The kitten tried moving around, slipping about on the metal armor. The little display only made Alex laugh a little.

There was a little part of Alex that was so excited to share such a moment with the princess. She was caring and warm. So down-to-earth. She was so much different than most, that the knight couldn't help but adore her. Nothing would ever happen between them though. It wouldn't be right. Not with all the handsome aristocrats vying for her hand, and the other knights who were better in jousts, or the princes of other lands who could be interested.

Kalia swayed from side to side a little playfully. She smiled sweetly at Alex and Joey, it seemed so right. When Joey starting fussing by meowing constantly Kalia giggled and gently took him and placed him down on the grown, tapping his head she said, "Be careful now, don't get caught." When she stood the cat moved into the bushes, Kalia watching after him with a smile on her face. She turned back to Alex and smiled sweetly, "Thank you, for saying you won't tell. You're not like the other guards."

She paused and thought about what she said, moving and leaning against a tree. "Why is it that guards always wear so much armor? Doesn't it get hot?" She asked curiously, tilting her head to the side. She was curious about different things with guards, but none of the others would ever talk to her.

"Bye Joey!" Alex waved and giggled softly, the arm of the armor making a bit of a clanking ruckus. Alex was looking forward to the next meeting with the kitten. "It's fine princess. I just want to serve you as best I can. I know it sounds... Odd... But I feel like I shouldn't just protect you from harm physically. Sorry... I'm just chattering... Senselessly..."

The knight waved a hand dismissively of the words. "As for the armor... I think it's really an appearance kind of thing. Makes the Kingdom look better. It's not eactly the best armor for protecting ourselves, since we can move that fast. Full plate like this... It's really more for show, and for jousting. It's... Unnecessary, but we wear it because it shows our rank and prestige among the other knights."

She watched the guard and nodded as she listened. She liked listening to others speak, the way they chose words, the way they talked showed a lot about a person. She always loved listening to her dad give speeches to the kingdom, or an army on their way somewhere. Even though he didn't agree with him, she admired his voice.

Giving a light nod as if deciding something she said, "Then how about you take it off?" She stood straight and added, "It's not like anything will really happen here, no one is stupid enough to try and attack during the day in a heavily guarded castle of royalty."

"It... Takes a while to get off and on..." Alex sighed. "There are so many straps and buckles in places that I can't reach, especially with all the armor in the way. It makes my body half again as wide as it should be. Can't flex in it easily." The knight had to decline because of that. It had been a question, and as much as getting out of the armor would feel good, Alex didn't think disobeying orders was all that good of an idea.

"Besides. I'm not supposed to take it off. I'm not supposed to be taking up your time and chattering either. As much as an attack is unlikely, we're supposed to be the faceless, stoic guards of the Kingdom's leaders and their child.

Kalia was disappointed, there was no doubting that. But she understood what the other was talking about. "Alright, maybe--" She jumped when she heard her name being called from the distance. "Oh no, it's Maria." Groaning, it was her mother's personal maid. The lady came out into the garden, calling her name and then said, "There you are Princess Kalia. Your parents want you to come see them immediately."

The woman stood in her spot for a moment and then turned and walked out. Kalia let out a sigh and looked at Alex, "Will you come with me? At least as far as you can?"

"Yes, my princess." Alex had gotten all formal again while the maid had come up. Quickly, the knight picked up the weapon that had been dropped a good little bit back. Alex felt partially responsible for the trouble that the Princess was about to get into. Or maybe Alex was being paranoid. But the teacher was waiting... So yeah... probably trouble. The knight followed at a respectful distance, as if escorting her.

Kalia walked through the castle with her back straight, in good posture and everything. She had dusted her dress off a bit so that it didn't look like she had been in dirt or anything. She moved and pushed doors open into the foyer, the doors staying open. Her parents were sitting on the furniture in the room. She bowed her head and said, "You called."

"Where have you been?" Her father said sharply, the anger in him apparent. Just the sound of his voice made her wince. "You were supposed to be in your lesson today. What were you doing that was so much more important?" He asked, and yet demanded at the same time, standing.

When she didn't answer her father nearly yelled, "Answer me!"

Kalia winced and kept her gaze to the ground, "Nothing, father. I was doing nothing."

Her father huffed and and crossed his arms over his broad chest. He was a big guy, standing tall and proud he was built almost like a brick wall. His shoulders were broad, making his chest just so. He called out, "Alex!" He turned his attention towards the guard that was escorting his daughter, "New orders. You will stay by Kalia's side, making sure she follows her lessons, and goes to them. If you fail at this task you will be greatly punished. Is that understood?"

It was as bad, if not worse, than Alex had imagined. The knight bowed down before the King and Queen when they got to the chambers, and winced when the King started yelling.

And new orders too. Alex was to be the personal bodyguard to the princess. Not so bad, except that the circumstances weren't great. Alex hadn't been chosen for skill or devotion. Just because the knight was there. And because the Princess needed to go to lessons.

"Yes, my leige!"

She felt bad that Alex got brought into the whole thing. Her mother stood up and walked to her daughter, her pose gracious and as if she was floating, "Now sweety, your lesson was canceled for today, but you have to go to your lesson tomorrow." Her tone was soft and submissive. A contrast to her husband.

Kalia nodded and turned, walking towards the door, going out and when in the hall, after having walked a bit she said to Alex, "I'm sorry I got you into something. I didn't mean to. I didn't think my dad would make you do that or anything.

"W-Well..." Alex stammered a little. "It's not all bad. I get to stick around you more. Maybe too much for your liking..."

The clinking armor followed at escort distance again. "It does mean instead of a normal guard, that I'm your official escort. Which means you've got priority when it comes to orders, aside from the whole going to lessons thing... Can't tell me that you don't like the idea of making me run all over the place." Th knight joked, hoping to at least make the Princess feel better about the situation.

The others attempt to make Kalia feel better worked. She giggled and said, "Well, maybe." She teased and smiled at the other. "Honestly, I'm glad it was you and not another guard. The others make me nervous. You don't. I like being around you." She spoke without really thinking about what she was saying. She kept walking, dinner would be in a little, and since the teacher was gone she was heading towards the study.

Walking into the study Kalia looked around, to make sure the teacher really was gone, "At least they didn't lie and the teacher didn't leave." She said happily, glad to find the teacher wasn't there.

"What? You like studying? Just without an old geezer breathing down your neck?" Alex teased a little.

"You're going to have to deal with your teacher tomorrow though. And I doubt the mood will be happy." The knight's head shook as Alex thought about it. Alex's course of study had been just stabbing, and the very basics of eloquent culture. "I can't say I can really help you in that department. I may be a knight but I'm not an aristocratic knight like most of them."

She smiled softly at the other and said, "Aw, why not? Being like the other knights would be just sooo much fun," she said, her tone dripping in sarcasm. She had her moments of childishness. She never liked being serious all the time like her father, or so collected all the time like her mother. She looked over towards Alex, "Why don't you take off your helmet?" She asked, "The rest of the armor I understand, but wouldn't the helmet be easier to take off than the other things?"

Kalia moved and leaned against a desk that was against one of the walls. The rest of the walls were covered in bookcases with book after book after book.

"Kind of..." Alex stammered a little. "See... There are these buckles in the back of the neck... They're easy for normal fingers to deal with. A little stiff, but they can be undone easily. But... Uh..." Alex brought a hand up and wiggled the gauntleted fingers. "The gauntlets make the fingers slick. Really, these armors are a pain to take off. We have to have a maiden help us out of these things."

Alex laughed a tiny bit, shyly. "I suppose, if you really wanted be without the helmet, we could go to the knights barracks and find some help" There was no reason why the princess couldn't do it, but Alex wanted to impose as little as possible. The knights served her, not the other way around. "But I would not want to inconvenience you in any way."

Kalia paused and tilted her head to the side. Shaking her head she stood straight and walked towards the other. "No reason to bother people in the barracks, I have hands." She said, showing them as if one would guess she didn't. She went around the other, "I can unbuckle it. I won't bite or anything." She said playfully, teasingly.

Kalia moved around the other and reached up on the helmet, to undo the buckles that were hooking it on. She tilted her head to the side and started to fumble with the buckles, working on getting them off.
