It is a time of hell on Earth. World War Three erupted in the year of 2015, the largest depression the world had ever seen had hit it's climax, bankrupting three fourth of the worlds population. Nations that were once at the top now seemed unable to stand on it's own, while others climbed their way to the top. In the vast change of power, the UN began to crack as those who once held power, (America, UK, France, Canada, ect.) wanted their power back, while countries now on the rise (China, Iran, Korea, Egypt, and Russia mainly) refused under any circumstances to help those that were falling down the charts due to the economic depression.

The two sides were starting to draw clear lines in the middle of June 2015, some even calling out for war, as both sides tore at the world literally splitting it in half (Freedom Nations A.k.A. those who had power against the Communistic Allies or those who had recently gained power). By the end of august the UN was deemed no longer needed, nor safe and was disbanded for good, after many national leaders had been assassinated. The state of the world quickly spiraled down hill from there.

Russia and China began an invasion of America and Canada sending drop planes over Antarctica, where Canada, and America launched a quick and prepared counter attack, turning Antarctica into one of the biggest war zones the world had ever seen. Iran followed suit quickly taking the other middle eastern nations with it's new found strength. Going straight into Europe. The Combined forces of all of Europe met them, in a struggle, similar to the stand still trench warfare of WWI, as India, decided to side with the Freedom Nations, forcing Iran into a two fronted war. This proved deadly for India as it was now surrounded on all sides by the Communistic Allies.

North Korea now backed completely by China, swept South Korea, and Japan who were without any aid from the outside world. They then led a naval assault on America's west coast, quickly taking ground in San Fransisco, but were stopped dead there in a stand still with American forces. All this came about by the end of the year.

As India began to loose their war on all fronts, America deemed them priority number one in the war, diverting their main forces from Antarctica, to help India, leaving Canada to deal with most of the fighting in Antarctica and along the baring strait.

This is where we come in. As forces were sent to India in its aid, China made the extra effort to send in a large surge of troops into the area (to China a large surge is 25,000,000 people just so you get the idea) flooding the area and quickly forcing the Indians to retreat from landing zones America deemed safe. With a bit of miscommunication in an instant thousands of lives were lost in the screw up, our unit being one of the lucky ones involved. Just stuck far behind enemy lines.

Subs are part of the naval department. Though in many nations they have their own seperate chain of command, often only connected to the navy at the highest levels. If I recall correctly the Canadians use an integrated military structure. They don't have seperate "Branches" like the American military does. Theoretically any military officer is part of a unified military. But in the end Naval personnel are only under the command of naval officers, etc. in practice.

Historically the US Navy's Silent Service has been more connected to the CIA and intelligence operations in practice than they have been connected to the formal US Navy. But they are yes, under navy command. And the land based "Sub Hunters" are also Naval units. A few rare occasions US Submarines have been under the direct command of intelligence agencies, not unheard of but fairly rare, usually intelligence officers were attached more as Warrant Officer's/Observers than actual commanders/officers.

.... No, I didn't just get a great book about US Submarine operations during the Cold War or anything. >.>
