The adventurer, Dane, was on his way to a village, hoping to make it there to get a new quest to do. But it seems daytime was close to ending.

"Better find shelter soon."

Luckily, he saw a cave at a short distance and decided to stay there for the night.

When he got there, he noticed it went further than he though. He walked in further and saw something shining. He eventually reached a pile of valuable gems and gold coins.

"My word!..This is amazing...who would put these in a cave. Well, might as well and "acquire" some for myself...hehehe....

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

A deep rumble filled the cave, reverberating off the walls. I figure emerged from the depths of the cave, growling fiercely. The beast was large, about the size of a full grown male bear. It had sharp, glistening teeth, large paws ending in razor claws, horns, and glinting icy blue reptilian eyes. A dragon!

Or a dragoness to be precise. It was a northern dragon, who, like birds once had, traded feathers for scales to withstand the harsh winter. The feathers were pure white that would blend in during the winter time, and seemingly glowed now in the dark cave. The dragon wasn't yet full grown, but could easily kill a human.

'Who dares steal from my hoard!' a voice rang inside the man's head while a loud, angry roar from the dragon filled his ears. Being unable to speak with her mouth, she used her mind instead. 'I should strike you down where you stand!' her back legs tensed to pounce.

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane was completely frightened, feeling foolish not to realize he stepped in a dragon's cave.
"I'm..I'm sorry. I just wanted a place to sleep for the night. I'll just leave"

Dane quickly rushed to the exit as fast as he could, not really feeling like dying.

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

'Oh no you don't!' The dragoness ran after him, her long strides quickly catching up. She spread her white wings and jumped, tackling the man to the ground. With a fierce growl she pinned him under her front paws, her claws digging into his clothing. 'You think you can enter the territory of a dragon and escape unscathed? Fool, I will tear you to shreads and feed you to the wolves!"

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane was scared stiff at the towering creature that was pinning him. He wasn't use to fighting such creatures, just usual thieves and rouges. He was even surprised how he hasn't crossed paths with monsters already. Maybe it has to do with the fact he always picked easier quest than the more challenging ones.

"An now I'm in this predicament because of my cowardliness.. Wonderful" Dane thought.

He groaned in pain, the dragon's claws now touching his skin. As he tries to struggle free, he looked at the dragon's eye, couldn't help but admire how glittering and radiantly blue it was.

"Umm..before you kill me..I just want to say...you have beautiful eyes.."

Dane had absolutely no idea where that came from. He just felt he should say something to the dragon that was about to kill him.

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

She lighted her head back in shock, cocking an eyebrow. Which was quite a comical look for a dragon. A moment passed and suddenly she made strange barking sounds. A dragon's way of laughing. 'Oh human, you amuse!' she laughed some more, before dying down into low rumbling chuckles.

'Thank you for your compliment, however. Dragons usually have scales like gems, I would like to think my eyes make up for that.' She, like most dragons, could be quite vain. 'Tell me human,' she lowered her head to that she saw him eye to eye, 'what is your name?'

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane now had a closer look at the beautiful eyes, looking even more brilliant up close. He couldn't believe how lovely they look. But he quickly shook his head, clearing the mesmerism the dragon's eyes had on him.
"My name is Dane. You could say I'm an adventurer, though not exactly a well known one."

Dane frowned a bit, not quite happy to admit he was quite a pathetic excuse of an adventurer, taking easy quests that didn't amount to anything much.

"So..umm...What is your name?"

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

She chuckled again. Skies above, he was funny! She was starting to like this human. 'I am the Dragoness of the Northern Mountains. But humans do not have names like that, no? You may call me Areon.'

She stepped off of him, sitting on her haunches. She didn't quite feel like killing him any more, as he was amusing her, but she didn't quite feel done with him yet. She leaned over and bit at his traveling pack, shaking it gently. 'Well, you surely must have some offering for a dragon, after interrupting a nap like that.' she wasn't one to pass up food, or more treasures for her hoard.

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane froze, wondering what he could give to the dragon as a peace offering. He quickly went to his pack, gently taking it from the dragon, and searched inside it.
"Well I'm sure I must have something her you would like."

Dane looked inside pulling out a small pouch of coins he got, a nice looking dagger he "liberated" from a defeated rouge and a pack of sunflower seeds. All he had left in the pack was a medicine pouch, a map, and some extra clothes.

Dane looked uneasy at the dragon.
"S..Sorry..That is all I have with me"

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

She grumbled, looking none too pleased. She eventually reached and grabbed the pouch of coins carefully in her teeth. 'This is not enough, human Dane. You must accompany me back to my cave and keep me warm tonight. Preferably with a fire, but your body heat will do if you can't manage that.' Her telepathy had a cryptic tone to it.

With a rustle of feathers she stood back up on all fours and made her way to her cave. Her fox-like ears twisted atop her head, making sure she could hear him following her.

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane gulped and followed the dragon back to the cave. He was surprised that his whole pouch of money wasn't enough for him. Now how could he managed to buy more food and supplies?
What confused Dane was what the dragon requested. How could his body be able to warm her whole much larger body? He would be suffocated by it if anything.

Dane still followed the dragon, back to where he first saw the piles of gold and jewels. He then reached further seeing a nest that was the right size for the dragon. There was strangely also a much smaller space, almost for a regular person. BUt why would the dragon save a space like that?

"This is getting very odd" Dane thought

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

She made a deep rumble as she returned to her cave, almost purring. It was her lair and she was glad to be back. She tossed the coin pouch in the pile of her treasure, adding to her hoard. Her lips curled into a toothy smile. Her blue eyes turned back to him, the smile becoming more of a grin.

Suddenly her body glowed with a soft white light. The edges of her form started to blur and become unrecognizable. Where the dragon began and ended was impossible to tell. Just as suddenly as it started the light from her body faded, dimming to a much smaller shape. The shape of a girl.

Well, almost a girl. She was very beautiful, that much was clear. She also appeared young, around sixteen by human standards, though a dragon aged slower than humans did. Her long silken hair was the same white as her feathers were, and her eyes were identical. A brilliant blue, and still reptilian. She still had wings growing from her back, covered in white feathers, her fox like ears, and her horns (though much smaller in this form) and a long white tail with a tuft of flowing feathers at the end. She wore pure white garments, generated by magic to cover her body, though they didn't cover much.

She walked up to him, a smirk on her face, and her arms crossed. "Well, can you make me that fire, human Dane?"

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane stared with his mouth open. Where a towering beautiful dragon stood was now stood a beautiful young girl. Her unique ears and horns didn't change how gorgeous she was. And of course she still had the beautiful sparkling eyes. He didn't know if he should faint or run away. He did neither as he was so mesmerized by the eyes, as well as her more human form. He has traveled as far as he could and never met a more beautiful young woman that stood in front of him.

"So..Beautiful" Dane whispered.

Dane noticed what he said and almost slapped himself mentally. He shook it off and spook again.

"Umm I mean..umm..I need to go out and get some wood if I want to start a fire..if you allow me."

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

She smirked again at his comment. It was as if there was no filter between his brain and his mouth, and whatever thought came to his mind just spilled from his lips. It was still certainly amusing. Her smirk turned quickly into a frown.

"Very well human Dane, but be quick. This form does not hold heat as well, the the cold night air makes my cave all the chillier." she turned away from him, walking to her nest, where at least she could curl up comfortably.

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane nodded and rushed outside to the forest. He managed to pick some fallen branches and some dead leaves for the fire. All the while he still couldn't believe that the dragon could turn into a beautiful woman like that. All the stories he heard about dragons didn't say anything about them having that ability. Then again, she would have gotten those coins from somewhere.

After picking up all the wood he needed, along with some rough rocks, he return to the cave and to the dragon. He saw her still resting so innocently. He could stare at her for hours, but he had a job to do.

He placed the wood close to the nest, but not too far and strike the rocks together, making a spark enough to ligth the wood. Eventually he succeeded and he finally got his camp fire.

Dane walked to the dragon-girl, afraid of waking her up.

"Umm..Miss?...The fire is ready"

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

She opened her brilliant eyes, yawning and sitting up. She smiled at the sight of the fire. Finding it warm and inviting, she got up and walked closer to it before sitting down comfortably. She patted the ground next to her, signaling him to join her.

"Please, do not call me 'Miss' human Dane. I am 97 winters old." she said. "I am almost at my hundredth year, when I begin the Long Sleep. I am starting to tire more easily." she said, explaining her napping tenancies. "I apologize if I doze off, don't think me a rude hostess."

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane smiled, glad she wasn't upset with him waking her up. He went to the fire and sat where she signaled him to. He was amazed that she said she is 97. She didn't even look close to that. He was a bit concerned when she said something about the Long Sleep. It sounded like some sort of hibernation but he was curious.

"It's fine. You've been a very gracious hostess. Umm Excuse me for asking, but..What is the "Long Sleep"?...and I'm sorry for calling you Miss"

Dane put his hands to the fire, warming himself as well, glad to at least have someone to talk to, especially a well spoken dragon of all people.

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

She smiled, glancing over at him. She didn't often get visitors, at least ones who were as inquisitive as he. Though he did steal from her hoard, he seemed apologetic about it.

"Dragons live for hundreds of years, but we must sleep for long periods during out lives. The first Long Sleep happens when a dragon reaches adulthood. The first Sleep is usually a decade, but they get longer the older we get, sometimes a century or more."

She looked over at him, "You called me miss because I now appear to you a young girl. Truth is, I am old for a human, but young for a dragon." she laughed, though it lacked warmth. "The reason I asked you to make me this fire is because I don't know how to breathe flames yet, I can only breath ice."

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

"Wow..I didn't think anyone would be able to sleep nonstop for a whole year, let alone a decade...But I suppose dragons live much differently than dragons. It's funny. I've always heard that dragons were just mindless beasts that just kill those who enter their territory. I'm...sorry to have disturbed you and tried to steal from you. It's just I haven't been lucky with getting some money as of yet. And when I saw all the gold..I couldn't help myself. I'm truly sorry..and it's nice to see the stories aren't as accurate as I thought."

When Areon said she can only breath ice, he was surprised, since he was sure dragons breath only fire.

"Wow..you breath ice?...That's something I would like to see..Umm..If it is OK that is"

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

She smiled at him. He didn't seem like most humans. "Typically, a dragon will kill those who invade their territory. We get very defensive of our homes and out hoards. Our home is what defines us. I am the Dragoness of the Northern Mountains. I will defend my territory to the death to keep that title. Some of us are just...a little more open minded. It is nice to find a human that thinks likewise. It is often that humans just think of killing a mindless beast than compliment her eyes." she said with a smirk.

She yawned suddenly, feeling her need for rest. "Hmm, how about this, h--Dane; I will show you my ice breath tomorrow. It is far more impressive when I am in my true form. But for now, I need sleep." with that she stood up and walked back to her nest, covering her body with her white wings to keep warm. Sleep took her quickly.

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane saw her go back to her nest, sleeping with her wings wrapped around her. He couldn't believe this woman looking so gorgeous and young would be far older than him. He could she her shivering a bit, despite her wings. So he got a blanket he would use to sleep, went to her and put the warm blanket over her. He could see a fain smile on her face, enjoying the new warmth of her slumber.
"Good night, Areon"

Dane went back to the fireplace and he too was getting tired. He laid on the cold floor until he dozed off in slumber.

The morning sun came out, shining light in the cave. Dane slowly woke up, rubbing his eyes. He saw the fire was already put out.
"Uhhh..Areon?"

He turned to the nest, seeing if she was still there.

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Areon was gone, though it was only a few moments before her return. She came bearing gifts; some roasted meat and bread for breakfast.

'Good morning, human Dane!' she said, quite happy and refreshed after a good night's sleep. 'I acquired these from a hunter in the woods.' she said, holding the food out to him. Well, she did trade, part of a deer carcass she had finished feeding on from her early morning hunt. She was sure the hunter was so terrified, he would have given up his breakfast willingly, but she did not like taking from humans, she preferred trade.

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane smiled, seeing the majestic dragon in front of him, now in her proper form. He graciously took the breakfast she acquired.
"Wow Thank you. I haven't had a proper breakfast in a long time. I hope it wasn't too much trouble."
Feeling so hungry already, he started eating some of the meat and bread, enjoying the taste of quality roasted meat after so long.
"Mmm...This is good..Oh..I'm sorry..I suppose you wan't some as well?"

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

She shook her head. 'No thank you, I already ate.' She had eaten most of the deer she traded, and the (relatively speaking) small pieces of meat she gave him would be little more than a snack for a beast her size.

'But since you are awake, I can show you my ice breath, as promised. If I am to demonstrate, it should be a most spectacular display, no?' With a gentle prodding of her snout, she shooed him out of her cave, then carefully picked up his pack, setting on the ground outside. She gave a through glance around the cave, making sure all of his items were out, and all that was hers was in it's proper place. Satisfied, she exited her cave, and faced it's entrance.

She stood tall, and puffed out her chest, inhaling deeply. Lights formed in front of her, lines tracing a glyph in the air with symbols of magic. She opened her maw and let loose a mighty blast of arctic air the passed through the glyph, and started forming ice around the entrance to her cave. The ice continued to build as her breath was unrelenting, eventually closing up and forming a solid wall that sealed the entrance to her cave. She ceased her breath, inhaling again and feeling a little light-headed, but satisfied. She had enchanted the ice to never melt, so that her cave was protected by the thick, unpenetrable wall, protecting the treasures inside.

She twisted her head to face him, her eyes shining brilliantly, and perhaps with a bit of mischief. 'I would like to accompany you on your adventure, human Dane, before I must begin the Long Sleep.'

RE: The Dragoness Companion (Dando20 and Falling Star)

Dane was amazed at her skill with the ice breath. He never thought that dragons would be able to do such gorgeous feats. He was a bit confused to why she was freezing the entrance to her own dwelling. He got his answer when she asked if she would accompany him in his quest. Dane was taken back at this.

"W..Wow..really. I would be honored..but I not quite sure I understand. Why would you want to follow me around. I..I doubt I am someone noteworthy to be with.

Dane was still feeling the sting of not being a better adventurer that most are.
