She was cold despite the layers. Today was the first day of her lab class with her assigned partner. A name that had been given to her on registration day, a name she knew by far way too well.

In the summer between ninth and tenth grade her family had moved across the country for a career opportunity her father couldn't turn down. That was what had brought them here. She had left the comfort of her home, her social structure- where she was one of the in crowd and loved by everyone to here. Yes, she was quiet, she hadn't known anyone. Yes, she was modest in her style, she was after all trying to get into a decent College, and that required dedication- not a life fraught with distraction.

And boys were a distraction.

So she had made a promise to start over, dress more modest and be less of a flirt in this new life she’d been given- fly under the radar and not get noticed. How wrong she’d been. She had caught his attention it felt like immediately. Was it that she hadn't simpered at his smile the first day? Or that she had been too nervous to notice that she came off cold, in her fitted jeans hidden by a shirt a couple of sizes too big hugging her books to her chest hoping to be nothing more than a wall flower. Of course, at 5’9 she could never be a wallflower, her curves were already fully developed and shapely beneath the shapeless clothes she wore to hide herself. Regardless, he had made a mark of her, and had made what remained of high school a living hell.

And now…after she had spent the summer praying for escape, he was not only here at the same college, but he was her lab partner. She couldn't even do anything to fix it as when she asked for a reassignment, the supervising professor had told her no, that “as grown ups there would always be situations one did not like but were beyond our control” and to “deal with it”. Then dismissed her protests with a wave of his hand. She was helpless.

Pausing past the mirror to glance at her reflection, she sighed. She was in nondescript clothes, a white tee shirt under a forest green zip up sweater that was a bit snug considering her usual attire, and boot cut jeans. Her dark hair was pulled back into a bun with a clip, and her face was fresh with a soft undercurrent of a flush due to nerves, making her clear green eyes pop. She hadn't seen him since Graduation, maybe he had changed over the summer. Maybe he wouldn't pick up where he left off with the teasing and bullying. But part of her knew that wouldn't be true - now, she dreaded, it would get even worse.

Having grown up in the area to parents from middle class of society he was determined to end in the upper echelon. Working hard on studies combined with his looks made sure that he stood out quite easily in the crowd. Noticing strangers he took it upon himself to find out just how they ticked, she was his latest one and the teasing along with bullying was going to escalate this year.

Pledges to fraternities often led to challenges or dares being issued to members, he did not have one so to speak but his challenge was her and studying with her. Something about the next year was going to shape both of their lives forever.

Having watched her enter with those clothes he chuckled and left his mates, striding down the corridor towards the classroom.

As she walked to the classroom she felt him before she saw him. Her skin prickled with the sense of being watched, knowing that while she couldn’t see him, he was close by his eyes stalking her. She squared her shoulders as she opened the door to the lab. He had never really hurt her, just made the insinuations that she’d given him favors. He had taken every chance he got to grope her- telling her she liked it, liked being his…slut…ensuring his friends walked in at the right moment to propagate the rumors causing so much talk that everyone else never questioned if he was telling the truth. They all had just accepted his version of any and all events.

A woosh of air hissed as the door slowly made its way closed behind her. It was a small space, built for two maybe three pairs of people to work in. Just her luck there was no one else here yet. She checked her assignment, their station was in the far back corner of the small room. She felt the electricity change and she shivered slightly. He had arrived. She turned to find him standing inside her personal space, always too close. She nervously licked her lips before sighing softly. This was going to be a long semester, and spending two hours with him every Tuesday and Thursday made that truth even more daunting. She took a step back, her back coming up against their work station impeding her escape, lending a startled look to her eyes.

“This isn’t going to work,” she said softly, her tone pleading for mercy. This class was important, how could she focus when she was worried about the meaning behind his well placed words and his suggestive touch and manor? Cautiously she raised her eyes to his, her heart racing, her breath catching at the intensity of his expression. What she wouldn’t give to be a mind reader.

It was like a game of cat and mouse or hunter and prey, her being the startled deer during hunting season in the bright spotlights only moments before the inevitable death shot. This was just too easy and his friends had only made it more so.

Semesters for him were much more fun when they involved some teasing and taunting, life was meant to be enjoyed and her skin was so soft under his each time he had made the teasing gestures. Chuckling as she tried to move away from him, he stepped closer and placed his workbook and pen on the long wooden bench, eyes meeting hers before running two fingers through his short black hair, eyes glimmering as he spoke softly.
"What, have you forgotten me already. I am heartbroken." he paused
"Chris feels forgotten by you" he said slightly louder but knew she was the only one who would hear it.

Dallas broke eye contact first, sighing softly, exasperated. Leave it to him to make her feel guilty.

“You’ve made sure that could never happen,” her tone was softly intimate a combination of defeat and acceptance. She would never forget him, not for all the trying in the world. Her eyes flicked to the door, as shadows paused before it. In moments their private space was going to be invaded. Dallas took that last moment of privacy to squeeze past him, and put the table between them. Regaining a sense of normalcy with some distance between them she let her eyes flick over him. He was impressive and striking – she fully understood why girls seemed to flock to him. His smile had an easy charm when he wanted. But she knew the other side of him, the side she was certain not many knew.

“Chris,” Lord how she hated how easily his name slipped from her lips, and how it sounded like a caress, even though it wasn’t meant as such. “Please, don’t make this too difficult on me.”

The door burst open at the moment and the other two pairs of lab partners wafted in from the hall. Dallas opened her assignment and let her gaze drop. There was an electricity in the air, she knew it and she knew from three years of dealing with it, that the others would see Chris- see them together- and make the broad assumption that she was his and off limits.

Chris listened to her words knowing that she was intimidated by him, eyes darting to the door long enough for her to move around him and the table. Oh well he thought to himself, this would still go the way he hoped as he was soon listening to Mr Wickman speak.
Occasionally he felt eyes from others on him as he took notes, glancing across at Dallas to see her writing diligently as well. He could study quite well when he wanted to and determination to show others that his good side was still there always shone through.
Nearing the end of class he spoke loudly "Mr Wickman for our out of class study sessions with partner should they be held in the same location."
Every set of eyes in the room fell on him before he laughed and added.
"Never mind Mr Wickman, I will sort it out with Dallas later."
Tearing off a piece of paper it looked like he was doodling but in fact was writing down his address and cell phone number, sliding it across the table to Dallas just before leaving. "Tomorrow night 7pm and don't be late babe."

Dallas sat stuned for a moment. Two hour labs evey Tuesday and Thursday were not enough??!!! They also had to do study time together? She looked at the paper Chris had given her, shuddering. At least he hadn't demanded her address? Dallas was trepidatious about going to his home, where he would have absolute control-but then she prefered that over him invading the sanctuary of her own home, a place she could escape from his presence all together.

Slowly, she gatherd her things and left the class, hoping she'd left it long enough that he'd not be waiting for her. The halls were emptying as the bell started to ring signaling next class. Lucky for her, she was done. Zipping her sweater up tighter, she hiked her bag over her shoulder, and made her way out of the building into the warm fall afternoon, thankful to be alone.

Dallas focused on her walk to her small ground floor appartment, trying not to think about how her named slipped from Chris' lips so easily. She tried not to think about tomorrow and getting through her morning classes before their meeting. If days could be stretched into years the next 24hours would take a decade off her life at least.

Chris strode down the long corridor and left the college area, waiting and watching. Occasionally chatting with friends before heading home, tomorrow was going to be so much fun he thought.
He knew that his fascination with Dallas had something to do with her hiding something, perhaps a hot sexy body that was dying for love.
Chuckling to himself as he opened the front door of his parents house, taking some water with him to his bedroom. His notes from class sat on the desk as he went back over them.
Several hours later he fell asleep with head in a book listening to music.

It was though time was playing tricks… first the night into Wednesday was sooooo long. Dallas had studied and made some headway on a couple of other class projects. Then she had fallen into a restless sleep, resulting in the alarm clock going off way too soon. She had gotten dressed in a half fog after taking a shower to clear the sleep from her mind. Her hair was down in soft waves about her face, and she was dressed in a pair of jeans and a High school Varsity Sweatshirt. The farthest thing from sexy she could get to, aside from her matching bra and panties. Hey, a girl had to have something after all right?

After stumbling to get coffee and hitting her first class it was if everything went into warp speed, and that was how she found herself, palms sweating standing at the front door of a very impressive house biting her lip waiting for the door. Wondering where the hell the day had gone.

Dallas rang the bell and took a step back as she was taught to do, to wait for it to be answered. She let her eyes wander as she looked at his home. Did he grow up here? She pondered, what kind of childhood had he had to make him the kind of man he was. Were his parents strict? Oh Gosh, would they be home???!!! Dallas’ hand went to her throat trying to calm the fluttering heart beat that was there as a shadow passed behind the pebbled glass of the door, obscured. She told herself it would be okay, as the knob on the door turned and then was pulled back.

Chris had enjoyed classes the next day and was looking forward to tonight and seeing her again. It was the taunting and teasing that made it fun and with his parents gone for the week he had the house to himself which he enjoyed.
It was right around 7pm when he heard the door bell and walking casually down the hallway he paused briefly before opening and stepping back.
"Dallas right on time, come in."

Dallas stepped into the foyer of the home, and took off her shoes while Chris closed the door. The sliding of the lock in place did not go unnoticed. She was in the lion’s den, she just hoped she didn’t get bitten. She hiked her bag higher on to her shoulder, noticing the eerie silence of the house.

“Are your folks home?” She asked, knowing the answer in her heart already. Of course they would be gone. She couldn’t picture them here, he felt in command of everything. Dallas raised her eyes to his.

“Shall we start? This project looks a lot bigger than it seems on the original glance over.” She chewed her lip unconsciously trying to tame her nerves, but everything was on edge. She hadn’t been this secluded with him since Graduation day, when he had cornered her in the small stage hall before the ceremonies. Dallas trembled slightly at the memory.

Chris could tell she felt trapped, just the way he wanted it to be between them both as he started to walk down the hallway.
"No my parents are not home, want something to drink"
He stepped into the kitchen and waited for her answer already believing that she would turn it down, taking out some water for himself.

Dallas followed him into the expansive kitchen, watching him as he poured himself a glass of water.

“Sure, I’ll have some water too if that’s okay.” She watched him pour another glass, their fingers brushing against each other in the slightest of touches as he passed the glass to her. “Thank you Chris,” she said softly.

She waited for him to grab his glass as well so she could follow him to where they were going to study. Part of her hoped it would be somewhere in the open on the main floor, since they were alone. But Dallas knew he’d take her to his room, a thought that spiked both her anxiety and curiosity.

Someone’s bedroom was the place they were always themselves, and she wondered what his would be like.

Chris had already set everything up that he needed for study in his bedroom, walking back down the corridor and turning right he set his water down on the nightstand before turning to look at her.
Picking up the study book along with questions for the assignment he spoke
"Dallas you know you can relax a little more around me."

Dallas smiled nervously at his comment. Relaxing around him was paramount to relaxing infront of a lion. She took a deep breath though as she stepped into his lair...room...and sat tentatively on the edge of his well kept bed. She pulled out her books and set them beside her.

"I'll try," she said softly. "But you have to admit given our history, it's a tad hard to do."

She let her eyes wander over his room. Every inch of it spoke about him as a male, but none of it was about his personal life. No photos of himself or family, which she thought was odd. But she noticed how tidy it was and how everything seemed to have it's place. She raised her eyes to his, starttled to find him watching her intently.

Chris had watched her intently after entering his room, sipping his water he moved to start reading his book .
"Dallas if you can not relax, perhaps there is something I can do to help"
He laughed softly knowing full well that his comments would not help but he was not going to stop taunting her when she was fascinating.

Dallas let his words sink in. Maybe she was being too on edge. He hadn't made a move to touch her since she walking into his house. Maybe he would be the perfect gentleman if she gave him a chance.

She looked down at her lap, and the questions for the assignment sitting in it. "Okay," she said. "First question, I think we need to explain our answer and how we came to that conclusion." She started writing down their response, focusing on the work ahead rather than him and his disarming grin.

Chris watched her occasionally, it was enough to do the assignment they were meant to be doing. Time passed quickly before he stood and stretched his arms and back before walking across to his bedroom door and stepping out.
He was thirsty again "Dallas want something stronger than water"
Not waiting for an answer he was already on the way to the kitchen.

Dallas startled as Chris stretched and left the room, asking on his way out if she wanted something stronger than water. She shook her head, but then decided to follow him.

"No, I am fine, thanks though," she said tagging along as he made his way back to the kitchen. She paused in the door way and stretched herself. They were nearly done, just a half hour more maybe. Dallas had to admit she was pretty impressed. He hadn't made a move on her yet, or tried to corner her and grope her. Maybe she would survive tonight unscathed.

Chris laughed already knowing she would take the easy route out of all that might be taken.
Drinking his beer he glanced towards the living room briefly before walking back close to her, offering the bottle.
"Dallas sure you don't wish to change your mind, for just one sip."

Dallas watched him take a sip of his beer, and then swagger to invade her personal space, offering her the bottle. She met his eyes as stepped into her space. She smiled at him.

"No, I don't drink- I never liked the taste of it." Dallas could smell the lingering aroma on his breath as he lifted the bottle to his lips and took another sip. She watched as the bottle descended, leaving a trace of moisture on his upper lip. The effect was stunning, he looked entirely kissable at that moment, and super sexy. She ran her tongue over the inside of her lip as she watched him, leery and anxious for his next move, as he hadn't backed away from her yet.

Chris laughed a little and noticed her eyes watching him intently, he was taunting and teasing her again. This time he put the bottle down on the counter and pulled her close, lips crushed against hers as he pressed his right hand between her legs.
"Oh Dallas you have no idea what I would give for you to strip right now."

Dallas realised a moment too late his intention. As he pressed his lips crushingly against hers, she could taste the beer on his mouth. She gasped softly in shock, more from being pressed between him and the door frame than his kiss. He'd taken kisses before, stolen in those moments where he'd pinned her and told her what he wanted to do to her, and how she'd enjoy every minute of it, though she always fought against him.

This was no different, his hand laying claim over her core as his mouth demanded her obedience. She was still for a moment, then struggled against his weight as he told her he wanted her naked. All her movements did was serve to remind her he out weighed her, and he was most definately a male...and in control over her.

"Chris, please..." She whispered when his mouth broke from hers again. Dallas knew though tonight was going to be different, she could feel it in the agressive possesiveness of his touch. Tonight he would not tollerate no.

Chris could tell that she was totally out of her depth around him, he could easily take everything from her tonight but he stepped back slightly and picked up his half empty bottle, pouring the contents down the sink before throwing the bottle into the recycling crate.
He turned back to look at Dallas before walking past her.
"Dallas I shall see you again Thursday night perhaps."

Dallas stood too stunned to move, her lips bruised from his kiss. Chris had just dismissed her, as though she was nothing, no a reminder she was nothing to him but a game. She ducked her head not looking at him, not wanting him to see the hurt she knew would be reflected in her eyes as she went to his room and gathered her bag swiftly.

The sooner she was gone from here the better. Yes he intimidated her, yes he suggested things and acts that made her blush, and touched her possessively- sexually- when he had no claim to do so. But she wished for just a moment things were different, that they could be different. She hurried to her shoes and put them on, not waiting to hear anything further she slipped out of the house, and nearly ran to her car.

She stopped about two bocks away, tears finally spilling down her cheeks. What was so wrong with her that she deserved this kind of attention? There was a moment of that kiss tonight, even the one he took on Graduation night, that had been tender- had spoken of a different kind of possessiveness. Dallas swiped at her eyes and drove home, realizing only too late she had left her entire assignment on his bed.
