Melanie was so excited when she graduate from college. Four years beneath her belt. An Associate in Nursing wasn't good enough, so the hellous nights studying and grueling tests were pushed further and she was finally graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Four well placed years and a job just waiting for her. Needless to say she was looking her best the day after. She had an appointment with the owner of a private practice who had a position in mind for her. Long slender legs were exposed leading from the hem of a black pencil skirt to a pair of black pumps.

A white button up blouse with one or two buttons left undone. Just enough to entice. Long and luxurious locks were pulled back into a ponytail that stopped in the middle of her back. Warm, hazel eyes peered from behind her reading glasses. She didn't need them most of the time, but the thick black frames gave the hit of a hot librarian. Her scrubs were packed away, but the CEO of this private practice said that it was up to the medical director to decide what tasks she would be performing. Now it was the morning of her first day. Today she would get to meet her boss. Little did she know how close she would end up getting to the man.

Ever the eager one she arrived early with a tote that held her scrubs and a few other things. She had already been printed out her access i.d. pass and made her way through the cool halls of the hospital to the area that she would be working. She was given a desk of her own, which was right outside of his office. She was more than excited and had her share of butterflies. Melanie Perkins had been waiting for this moment and she was not about to let it slip through her fingers. Only one this was missing... "Where is he?" Soft pink lips were gloss over with a strawberry flavor and warm eyes peered behind the the lenses of her glasses as she sat at the brand new desk and began getting familiar with the files of the patients.

Doctor Jason Wells was the medical director of the Wells clinic, and a prodigy in his own right. He had graduated Magna cum Laude from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, and had done his residency at Mayo Clinic. After 10 years in private practice, he was now medical director and heir apparent to one of the finest private clinics in Chicago. His father and founder of the institution was now 74 years old and semi-retired. Much to his son's dismay, he remained the chairman of the board, and insisted on meddling in the daily affairs of the clinic despite his part-time status.

Jason had always been an independent sort and had never had or wanted a personal assistant, so it was with great surprise that he arrived that morning to discover he had one, and that she was not only young, a good 15 years, by his estimation, but drop dead gorgeous, and some one had her stationed outside his private office and ready to do his beck and call. What's more, the girl was not just a pretty face who could type but a full blown RN who had graduated from the nursing program at Mayo, which was among the best in the country.

Jason arrived, as was his custom in a black tailored suit and tie, and immediately exchanged the jacket for his white medical coat. Seeing the young woman sitting at her desk, he walked over extended his hand and introduced himself. "Hello, I'm Doctor Jason Wells, I presume you were hired by my Father, Doctor William Wells. Its good to meet you." The 6 ft 4 inch 190 lb doctor with jet black hair and grey eyes that seemed to pierced whatever they fell on, smiled at her politely. It was hardly this girls fault that his father pulled this surprise.

"Why don't you come in my office and we can discuss your duties." Things hadn't gone particularly well for the doctor lately. He was fresh off the latest of four failed relationships, none of which had ended well, except that he had been spared the troubles that went with marriage, and it was widely believed that he would never marry. He was greatful that she was an RN, as he planned to keep their relationship very professional.

Melanie was far from surprised when she saw the man to be her boss. If Doctor William Wells were to somehow turn back the hands of time, this would have easily been his twin brother. He was severely handsome, both a curse and a benefit. He was more than easy on the eyes and, until she got to know him, he could be a charming co worker. She extended her hand in a polite welcome before adjusting her glasses with the free hand. "Melanie Perkins. It's nice to finally meet you. Your father speaks highly of you." Melanie was a modest five foot eight. Looking a bit taller in her heels.

Immediately she stood out of her chair, making sure not to be rude. "My pleasure." She casually uttered as she followed him into is office. "I actually had a few questions to ask you, but maybe what you say will sum it all up, so I'll save it for afterwards." Why she had bother even saying that in the first place was beyond her. Maybe some first day jitters. It wasn't like the was her first job ever. Then again working as a cashier at starbucks was no where near as intimidating as working as an RN, let alone the position she was gifted with.

Sadly, although it was instinct, the first thing she noticed was his lack of a wedding ring. A glance about his office showed signs of a personal life entailing children or a wife. It actually would probably have been a bit easier if he was married. She could have something to talk about. However strict professionalism seemed the way to go about things here. Even fresh out of school, she feared screwing things up on this job. Thinking of all of the worst case scenarios.

"Please have a seat" he said indicating the large upholstered chair in front of his imposing mahogany desk. The office was his inner sanctum. The chair sat low and made the view of him from the other side of the desk all the more imposing. He smiled down at her and said, "Let's start out with some ground rules. I know you are an RN from a well respected school. That is very valuable to me, but you need to know that treating patients will not be your role on a daily basis. That doesn't mean you won't save lives. You are here to extend my influence, and thereby keep this institution on a lifesaving path. I noticed that you brought scrubs with you. Don't plan on wearing them. I want you set apart from the other nurses.

Your dress today is very appropriate. Get yourself a white dress jacket. Where it whenever you are here. Before long it will be recognized as a symbol of authority. In time, you will speak for me in my absence, with my full authority. You will answer to no one but me, not even my father. Do you think you can handle that?"

Ava sat herself in the comfortable chair and crossed her legs doing so. She furrowed sleek brows as he spoke of her not treating patients on a daily basis. Clearly this position was more than she had thought and it certainly entailed more. It sounded more like a Director of Nursing position with more to it. Of course it hit her just how much more... power... that came with this job. Symbol of authority? everything else seemed easy enough until the last part.

"Answer to no one but you. Including the very man that hired me? Who just so happens to be your father? That last one may have some circumstantial moments, but I see no reason thus far why I can't. Certainly I can hand it. After all, you know I'm not just a pretty face." she wasn't as submissive as some would believe. The relationship was professional, but to speak for him would put them on, somewhat equal footing.

"That answered all of my questions. What is the routine? Any meetings today?"She asked with curiosity. wondering where they would begin.

He pulled a large brief case from under his desk and set it in front of her. "these are the files on every resident working here" in the morning tomorrow, we will meet again. I will expect that you are familiar with every one of them. He then handed her a black planner. "Here is my calendar" its yours now. We will discuss this tomorrow."

"One other thing, I want to get to know you. I'll see you for dinner. I will pick you up at seven." Without a word, he got up and as he left the office he said "See you at seven."

The files placed before her had some decent girth to it. Needless to say she had a busy night ahead of her. Next was his calendar. This meeting was becoming more and more interesting. Thankful that was something that they wouldn't tackle until tomorrow. Just when she thought it couldn't get more interesting. "A Business dinner?" He left her with more questions than answers. "See you... at seven."

She sat up and tucked both the calendar and the brief case. He apparently knew where she lived. She wasn't sure whether to be creeped out of not, but he had to be a man with easy access to such knowledge. For the remainder of the day she went through the files and took it home to her modest, old fashioned two story home. A cobblestone path leading a way to the few steps that made their way to the porch of her home. She remained in her work clothes and submerged herself in the files and lost track of time all together.

"Jason left his office feeling good about the meeting. He knew that what he was asking was a severe challenge, but he didn't want anyone timid, or unable to accept a challenge. If she was to fail, it was going to be soon. It would be far too much work to make this work, to have her quit when things got tough. He deliberately left the hospital and told the switchboard not to accept calls for him for the next 24 hours. Then he went home.

He had been searching for months for a way to break out of his routine, and perhaps she was it. He spent the morning making reservations, and then took a nap before getting up taking a shower dressing in jeans and a comfortable sweater. Then at 6:40 he left for her home. At seven on the dot, he rang her bell.

Mel was caught off guard with the time and ran up the carpeted stairs to her room where she changed out of her work clothes and slipped on something neutral. I could be semi formal and nice casual. She had no idea where he was taking her, so she wasn't entirely sure what to wear. She slipped on a black skirt that stopped just below the middle of her thighs. A white button up blouse with a few buttons undone and a pair of black comfortable heels.

She was putting on her earrings when she heard someone ring her doorbell. She cursed herself under her own breath and rushed her way down stairs and snagged her clutch purse before opening up the door. Honestly she was rather surprised. The first impression she got of him was... stiff. Seeing him in such casual clothing had her surprised. So much so she was muted for the first few seconds before snapping back to reality. "Doctor Wells..." A light coat was snagged off of the coat rack and she closed and locked the door behind her.

"So... where exactly are we going?" She had debated on speaking, but the silence was eery and some conversation was a possible solution to fixing her out of whack nerves.

"You look fabulous! I had a little change of plans since we last talked. We have an affiliated clinic in San Diego. I really think I need to be there in the morning, and though I know it is a surprise, I'd like you to come with me. "if you need some time to prepare, I'd be happy to wait for you. So, are you available?" He smiled at her, but made no apology for the short notice.

Melanie was more than caught of guard and was utterly surprised at the sudden addition to their plans. "Sure, it's work and that's what I do, but where am I to stay tonight?" She fished a little suitcase from the front foyer closet and shook her head. "Actually hold that answer, I'll be right back." She walked up the stairs and away from him and gather a few quick things before heading back downstairs. "Okay... now... where are we staying?" She asked in a more than curious tone.

At this point she was thanking her lucky stars that she didn't have children or pets, because this job was going to take up a lot of her time. her heels clicked upon the cobblestone steps as she made her way to his car.

He took her bag and stowed it in the trunk of his Mercedes. " Well, our flight out is leaving in an hour on the corporate jet, We'll have dinner aboard the flight, and we'll arrive about 6 pm in San Diego. We have a beach house there. You'll have an office and a room of your own. We'll have meetings all day Friday, and then the weekend to relax and get to know each other or if that doesn't fit your schedule, the jet will take you home. "

He opened the door for her and then got in and started the drive to the airport.

A short little laugh escaped her lips as she got into the passenger seat of the Mercedes. First they were suppose to get to know one another over a business dinner and now they were going to spend the weekend in San Diego together at a beach house. This was certainly a sudden change of plans, but not one that she would be crazy enough to object to. The drive was peaceful and fast. She had never been aboard a corporate jet before so her surprise was more than genuine.

It was stunning. Of course her stomach had to ruin things by growling and announcing its lack of sustenance. "Spend the weekend in San Diego? How could I say no to that?" It would be more than apparent that she was enjoying herself. The briefcase and his calendar both set aside.

He smiled at her affirmative response. It was clear now that this young woman was not easily rattled. They drove up to the private air terminal at Ohare, and He handed his Id to the guard and was waved in. They drove directly on to the tarmac and pulled up alongside a leer jet. He took her hand and escorted her aboard as the porter loaded their luggage. It was clear once they were inside that the plane was equipped for ultimate comfort. There were reclining chairs equipped with seat belts that would be used only for take off and landings, a large dining/ conference room, a private office with a desk and stenographer's station, and in the rear of the plane a master suite with a large double bed and a full bathroom with a very comfortable shower. Adressing table with mirror, and chair stood in the corner. “Our dinner will be served shortly after we reach cruising altitude.” He said. When they were seated, the crew checked their seatbelts and the plane began to taxi.

She followed the flight attendants instructions and buckled herself in as the plane began to take off. She had a nice view out of the window as they land they were on got smaller and smaller. The captain soon announced when they were at cruising altitude. During their ascent she was browsing the menu for what to order for dinner. When it came time to order she told the flight attendant that a ricotta ravioli with cherry tomato ragĂą and arugula, paired with a fine French Chablis. "Thank you." She unbuckled herself and walked about the cabin. Enjoying the sights before she grabbed her briefcase and began getting familiar with the files, back in the chair she had sat in during take off. With legs crossed she slipped on her reading glasses and began browsing through the files in her lap. Trying to get as much done as she could before her deadline in the morning.

Jason placed his dinner order as well, which included a hearty New York Strip and brazed vegetables, and Caesar Salad, with nice Irish Ale. When he finished ordering, he swiveled his chair to face the middle of the cabin and watched her as she explored. When she sat down and dove into her paperwork, he was both impressed with her diligence, and torn as to whether or not to disturb her. He decided let her do her preparation work, and hold the conversation for their meal. About a half hour later, the flight attendant announced that their dinner was ready, and ask for them to come to the table, which was set for a formal dinner. Jason got up and escorted her to the table and pulling out her chair, seated her at the table. Once they were seated the flight attendant locked their chairs in place against sudden turbulence, before serving their meal.

There was an almost uncomfortable silence for a moment, but Jason broke it by asking her “What do you do for fun?” The question deliberately avoiding work.

Mel graced the flight attendant with a smile as her attention was ripped away from the files and towards the announcement of their dinner's arrival. The files were placed back in the briefcase from which they came. She was surprised when her boss came over and offered her a hand of assistance when getting up and out of the comfortable chair. "Thank you." He was more polite than she remembered upon their first meeting.

As she was generously assisted at the dining table she took in the aroma of the five star meal plated before her. The woman began cutting up her dinner in silence when the man, her boss, asked her a question. Melanie had genuinely been surprised that he asked such a question. "What do I do for fun?" Making sure she had heard him correctly. She had to think it for a moment. "Well I love swimming, hanging out at the bar, cooking new things, going out to a nice resturaunt. You know... girl things. How about yourself?"

"Well I do love the beach, though I'm more into running and working out on the sand than swimming. I love the beach early in the morning. That and music. I love to play the guitar and piano. I don't really have much use for TV but I do enjoy an occasional movies, and love live theater. Oh and in the right season I love to ski.

It looks like the beach house is a great place for both of us." He paused to take a few bites of his steak and sip his beer, as his eyes locked on hers. He was struck with just how beautiful a woman she really was.

Melanie began working on her pate of food as he spoke. Giving him the occasional nod when it struck her to do something other than eat. She took a sip of her wine and gave him a smile. "Sounds like we may get to have some fun on this business trip. I must say I didn't see this at all when I applied for this job, but I am far from disappointed."

"I love songs by Chopin on the piano. The classics just sweet me away." Another sip of wine made it's way past her lips before she continued savoring her dinner. "So, how often do you make trips like this?" She asked as she looked at him sitting across from her. He was handsome, but he was also her boss.

"Well we have clinics in Chicago, San Diego, New York, and Boca Raton. I visit each 3 times a year. Sometimes I stay as long as three weeks. Are you available for that much travel?" He smiled at her.

I haven't played much Classical piano, but for you I'd give it a try. "Do you like Blues?" As they finished their dinner, the stewardess brought out a dessert menu and coffee. "the deserts are wonderful. Try one of each!" he said smiling.

Mel sat back and took her sweet time with her second glass of wine as she listened to Doctor Wells as he spoke of other places they may visit. Each in well populated areas and known for tourism. "As long as three weeks? Wow. And let's see... no current relationship and no children so I can't see why not.

"Mmmm... yes the blues is nice." She took the dessert menu and browsed over their selection. "Dinner was fulfilling as is. Although this red velvet cheesecake looks sinfully delicious. Maybe you can get something else and we can share. Then again, from the sounds of it I bet you've sampled everything they have to offer." She teased as she set the menu down. Content with her decision. The wine quelling her nerves and making her more relaxed in the company of her boss.

He ordered tira misu and said "I would be happy to share. " As they finished their desert, each feeding the other an occasional bite of desert, the stewardess stopped by and told them that they had approximately two hours of flight time left if they cared to catch a nap before their arrival. "shall I turn down the bed?" she asked.

"Yes please" Jason said, and after a long pause, he added, "and make up the sofa as well." He turned to Mel and said "you really get some rest it will be only 6 pm when we arrive. The bed is very comfortable." "please make her feel at home" he said to the stewardess.

The auburn haired female was having more fun than she had expect on this trip. Especially in her boss' company. The tiramasu was delicious as well as the red velvet cheesecake. Once done she would easily have accepted a nap and had planned to do so in the chair or on the sofa. However he seemed to have had other arrangements in mind.

Ones that made her blush as she looked from the empty wine glass to him. "Doctor Wells, I would be perfectly fine with the sofa..." She was assisted out of her seat and she stood upon her feet. There was clearly no way of her winning this. So before the stewardess could lead the way to the bedroom she placed a quick peck upon his cheek. "Thank you Doctor Wells." She said with a warm smile before she was escorted to the bedroom where the bed was turned down and she laid upon what had to be the most comfortable surface in existance.

The stewardess woke each of them just before the end of the flight, Jason got up and sat in his seat and buckled in waiting for Mel to join him. He greeted her as she got in her seat and asked. "Did you have a nice nap?" They were on final approach and would soon land. Their plane was met by a chauffeured limo and they were seated together in the back for the 45 minute drive to the beach house. "Would you like something to drink? Jason asked her opening the small bar. There was no mention of work, and Jason made no opportunity for her to do any.

Mel had set an alarm for an hour and fourty five minutes before she awoke in time for the landing. The limo, she certainly did not see coming. This felt more like a vacation than work. Her eyes gazed out the window nearest her only to look at him to answer. "No thank you, the wine on the plane was more than enough." Her eyes went back to gazing out if the window. Legs crossed and the seating comfortable as she just gazed out if the window. Finally one of her thoughts broke loose. "Your dad was wrong about you. He told me not to tell you and I won't since he had me literally pinky swear." The thought alone making her laugh. "But I'm glad he was wrong about you." Again warm eyes looked from him and back out of the window.
