Wrath of the Righteous - Chapter One [NSFW] (ShadowPlay x Zazutobi)

The group looked through the door to the next room. There was a lingering smell of cooked meat and rank bodies in the air. Ten bedrolls, each piled with coarse blankets and animal furs, surrounded a fire pit filled with glowing coals. Tanned hides hang stretched on the walls, each crudely painted with scenes of deformed humanoids hunting giant vermin in caves. To the east were two doors, one of which were open and to the north another exit could be seen.

They came to what appeared to be a sleeping area for the mongrels. Though there were ten bedrolls and they had only taken care of four so far. Meaning there was still six others most likely. "Six others." Ebiko said stepping into the room and looking around. She took a look at the images on the stretched out leather and the open door trying to see what was beyond.

Entering the room, they tried to gather information about the inhabitants. The artwork on the walls were crude and primitive and the place was not kept at a good sanitary standard. The open door to the east opened up to what looked like a storage room. Suddenly they saw something moving in the room. A large, almost 8' long lizard came crawling out of the room. It looked rather hungry and hostile.

The artwork was crude but it did tell something at least. A bit about how they lived though Ebiko expected it wasnt much different than the other mongrelfolk albeit without the demon worship aspect. Still she barely noticed something moving in the room before it came out of what she presumed to be a storage room. Ebiko regarded the long lizard that came crawling out the room. Readying her rapier the Kitsune prepared to fight.

Avenia reacted to the appearance of the Lizard with a speed that was almost surprisingly fast. She fired two arrows at the large lizard. One of the arrows hit and damaged the lizard severely.

Lann, also reacting fast, moved up and threw a javelin at the lizard. His javelin hit the animal, lodging deep into it's shoulderblade.

Saphira moved towards the lizard, trying to stab it with her shortsword. Her sword connected with the lizard's neck and in a spray of blood it collapsed on the cavern floor, dead and unmoving.

Ebiko stepped forward to boldly challenge the lizard. Only to trip over a mongrel bed and fall flat on her face. Missing the entire fight as the others unleashed their barrage of attacks upon the Lizard. The Kitsune remained silent for a moment before saying "You saw nothing." standing up and dusting herself off. "Nothing!" she reiterated thoroughly embarrassed by the ordeal. Coughing she looked around for a moment in case anything else decided to leap out at them. Before letting out a sigh and heading into the storage room.

"Saw what?" Saphira asked with a chuckle. "I only saw you examining the social structure of the traitor mongrelmen. It's important to know more about their sleeping arrangements."

They headed toward the storage room. A rack of hooks hung from the ceiling, cured slabs of meat dangling from them and filling the room with a smoky aroma. A group of barrels appeared to hold other preserved foodstuffs. Most of the preserved food seemed to be of dire rat meat and most of it over-salted and quite unappetizing.

Ebiko frowned but remained silent as Saphira called her out for her amazingly in depth study of mongrelman sleeping arrangements. Couldnt really complain when she didnt help much in that fight. The place seemed like a larder, racks of hooks, cured slabs of meat salted and cured. Though most of it was most likely from things she didnt want to know about and were pretty well unappetizing for her refined palate.

Still she took a look around to see if there was anything else worth scavenging.

There really didn't seem to be anything else to scavenge in the room. Saphira looked at the meat noting, "I will need to be very hungry before I will eat that." But Lann said, "Living here underground sometimes leaves us with little choice in the matter. We need to feed our children and if we catch a large rat, then a family have meat for several days."

Saphira realized the insensitivity of her words. "I'm sorry." She said, "I didn't... realize." Lann smiled, "No problem red."

Ebiko shrugged saying "To each their own. In my homeland we eat raw fish. And it is amazingly delicious." The desire for good fish only reaffirmed Ebiko's desire to get out of the underground. Returning to the main room she headed over to the other door. Taking a listen to it in case there was something going on inside before opening the door to enter.

The party went to the other eastern door. They listened to the door and there didn't seem to be any sounds behind the door. In all the caves were in fact eerily silent and without any ambient sounds at all.

Saphira, readying her shield, looked at Ebiko. "Do you want me to go first?" She knew that danger lurked behind every corner and foes were ready to strike. But she was after all more armored than her white furred companion, and the tiefling would rather she got hurt than anyone else.

Ebiko looked over to Saphira and nodded saying "Yeah give me one second first." The kitsune cast detect magic first. Figuring it couldnt hurt to find out if there was something magical nearby.

Nothing in the vicinity detected magic, except for the things they carried themselves. The scales from the dragon that Ebiko had picked up yesterday did however detect a very strong magical aura.

Saphira also checked the door to see if there was any unwelcome surprises on the door. Though Saphira didn't find anything sucpicious about the door either. "I guess we are in the clear?"

Ebiko nodded saying "Yeah we should be good to go." Ebiko said readying her rapier and letting SAphira take the lead to head through the door.

Saphira opened the door to a room that at first seemed deserted of people. In the southwestern part of this room, stout stone chairs surrounded a block of larger stone that served as a table. The table's top was strewn with bone dice and cracked clay jugs. Stained canvas pillows rested on the chairs. A copper bowl filled with coals hung from the ceiling, filling the room with warmth and an orange glow. In the Southeast corner of the room there was a hole in the ground with a rope ladder hanging down.

Saphira stepped into the room only for someone to pop out from behind the stone table and fire an arrow at her. It looked alike a woman that was something of a crossbreed of a spider and a human. Because she was unprepared for the attack, the arrow hit Saphira,

Ebiko yelped in surprise as a figure suddenly popped up from behind the stone table and launched an arrow. Both the surprise attack and the look of the strange mongrel was a shock. Ebiko readied her rapier as the team prepared for battle.

Avenia fied two arrows in rapid succession at the mongrelman woman that had hit the tiefling. Both arrow hit the woman, causing her to curse and scream.

Saphira tried to close the distance and attack her adversary at close range to deny her the advantage of ranged combat.

Their assailant pulled out a club and attacked Saphira. But the tiefling were too quick in dodging the attack.

Ebiko moved in to join the fray as well. Raising her rapier the kitsune moved around the group trying to flank the mongrelwoman.

Even though she was being flanked by Ebiko, she deftly dodged the rapier and hissed at Ebiko.

Lann threw one of his javelins at the mongrelwoman, but she was in close combat with Ebiko and Saphira and he had no luck with hitting her.

However Saphira used a little time to analyze the mongrel's movements and patterns and then she struck. Landing a very heavy blow at the woman. Her shortsword pierced the woman's belly leaving her falling over, with a lethal, bleeding wound.

Ebiko shook her head, her strike hadnt managed to land but she had distracted the mongrelwoman long enough to let the others, especially Saphira land a heavy blow and bring the woman down. "Gotta admit, I admire the variety of mongrels. You too Lann, very unique." she said pointing her rapier down at the wounded cat, bat, spider like woman.
